Life Is Like A Book With Many Chapters

"Life is like a book with many chapters we call seasons.
Some chapters tell the story of love, drama, comedy,
mystery, loss, adversity, growth, disappointment, triumph, etc.

Some chapters are dull and ordinary, others intense and exciting.
The key to enduring, persevering and being hopeful is to never stop
on a difficult page, to never quit on a book or a chapter that seems
too long. Some chapters may be sweet but too short. Your words,
thoughts, actions, non-action and choices are the pens that write the
pages in your book.

Have the courage and faith to keep turning the pages believing better
chapters lie ahead. God is the author and finisher of your life.
Trust. Listen. Believe. Grow in God's word. Activate your gifts and talents.
Be creative. Be kind. Be patient. Be faithful. Be grateful. Be fruitful."

  • After having read this I realise that, in retrospect, we actually cut out the long boring bits of life from our rose-tinted memories, just as any good fiction editor would to make the book a good one

Yes! This thread gets to the root of life. The past can always be overwritten. There are NLP techniques to do it. But you can also be spiritual about it! Here is something to think about:

" Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond (to the other shore)! O enlightenment! Be it so! Hail! "

Thanks moneyerr, ankur sharma for your posting to the warriors. We need to be inspired! The other shore is the opportunities of the future.

I agree with Barry John Northern-- actually you are touching on the beginnings of a deep spiritual path. The path of Zen, or any other contemplative endeavor begins with forgiving yourself, forgetting the past, and focusing solely on the results of the present, and where it will take you.

      As for IM...
There is so much baggage we call carry around! When was the last time we took to forgive ourselves for not getting it right or for getting sidetracked? We must move forward continuously. That is what I am doing!

this thread inspired me a lot
what i have realized is that we ourselves are god who write and edit this book. and the ending of this book is depend on what we write and how we edit. or there is no ending....

Very true quote. I have a couple of challenges coming up in the very near future and keep telling myself that God is in control, not me. Makes things a lot easier knowing that "this too shall pass" and life will go on.

Thanks for sharing - this is a passage that some of us should read more than once.

I love that heading. It reminds me of my favourite song, Everyday I Write the Book by Elvis Costello. If you've not heard that, you might find some great meaning in there!

A fitting analogy...and it works. The book has beautiful and ugly parts. We can choose what to write, what to focus on...and we're a success if we have more beautiful pages. I'm happier since I started focusing my energies on the positive pages. Thanks for sharing...

        Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

        Chapter 1

        I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
        I fall in.
        I am lost ... I am helpless.
        It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

        Chapter 2

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
        I pretend I don't see it.
        I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
        But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

        Chapter 3

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
        I see it is there.
        I still fall in ... it's a habit.
        My eyes are open.
        I know where I am.
        It is my fault.
        I get out immediately.

        Chapter 4

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
        I walk around it.

        Chapter 5

        I walk down another street.

I absolutely agree that we should focus on the Lord as being the author of our individual book of life. The best part is that He knows exactly why He has created us and what we are destined to achieve before we even begin to live each page!

He often writes the 'not so fun part pages' into our elaborate story to teach us to slow down and focus on Him instead of getting stuck in the rut of worldly worries and busyness where we often find ourselves wandering about aimlessly.

I truly believe that when we put our faith in Him and turn to Him for guidance in everything that we do, we will truly never be dissappointed and our book, despite those dull, boring or dissapointing parts will indeed have a happy ending!
