PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Sand And The Stone
Two friends were walking through the desert.
During the journey - they started to have an argument - which resulted in one friend slapping the other.
The friend who got slapped - was hurt.
But without saying anything - he wrote in the sand: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis - where they decided to take a bath.
The one who had been slapped - got stuck in the mire and started drowning - but his friend jumped in and saved him.
After the friend recovered from the near drowning - he wrote on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him - "After I hurt you - you wrote in the sand and now - you write on a stone. Why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us - we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But - when someone does something good for us - we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

That's a nice sentiment, it's a shame so many people today are more concerned with getting even than moving on.

  The answer is different for every person and every situation.
  
  To forgive someone does not require that you also continue to keep their company. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for a person who is hurtful or hateful is to forgive them and leave them in peace.
  
  If you must take action in defense of yourself or others, keep in mind the words often quoted by Father Anthony De Mello: "Plunge into the heat of battle and keep your heart at the lotus feet of the Lord."

thanks for sharing your thought for the day which is to exercise the quality of forgiveness in form of an inspiring story. I regard 'forgiveness' as a big subject where lot of things needed to be put to analysis before a wrongdoer is set free. Anyway, for relationship matters and people whom we trust this is a good story to remind ourselves that by acting kindly we may endure the pain of any relationships.
