4 years ago , I found a friend reading a book and any time he saw me , he immediately hide the book from me . He refused to borrow the book to me but allow me to read it in his presence . I like the book because it not only motivational it was interesting because it was telling a story .

I bought the book On amazon and i decided that it was not going to be one of those books i would read and not apply . I choose to apply every instruction in the book and it completely change my view about money , what is possible , how to make grow and the laws governing money .

Google The Richest Man in Babylon and you find it .

      Great Book

I didn't used to read either . I didn't understand why people would bury themselves in a book .But one day I realised how foolish it was that not reading and accessing the knowledge of people before me. these people know the answers to the problems i want to figure out and if i just apply what they suggest , i would be solve my problems too .

It was easy at the begginning but I decide to read at least 3 paragraphs a day until i finish each book .it is very easy to read just 3 paragraphs a day . Some days I read way more . Before you know it , i was finishing books . I came across the Rich Man in Babylon and it is one book that set me on the right path with money .
It is a series of stories well written mentioning some vital points . Still one of best books i ever bought

"Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.

It was amazing what it did for me. With the very good was an equally bad problem.

I applied it and got exactly what I asked for. The problem? I got exactly what I asked for.

I wasn't specific enough. Everything was there, the work done, making it happen, I just settled on something that seemed a pipedream at the time. Two years down the road and I was there, I had it, it was just a lot less than I wanted when I got there.

So, don't be afraid to dream big. I've duplicated similar success elsewhere and AM thinking much bigger. Already I've accomplished in a short time what others in the niche dream about.

    So it's still helping me.

Those goals had nothing to do with money, by the way, though I'm directing it there now since I see it's an unavoidable way of life, especially if I want to get my REAL dreams.

Well, that's the thing with needs, desires and goals. You always need new ones.

You'll never be satisfied. That's just the nature of the beast. The only way to be truly satisfied in life is to work towards suppressing all needs and wants. I know it may seem strange at first, but the less needs and desires you have, the better off you'll be...

Intense desire is always accompanied by a sense of profound dissatisfaction. Before you achieve a goal, you always have this dream scenario that once you get it, everything will be perfect forever. But the truth is that dreams are always better than the reality...

It's like when you have this great tune stuck in your head during the whole day and you feel disappointed once you finally get to hear it...

I had to really think about a reply to this, but this is really what I was aiming to say.

I got exactly what I asked for. Verbatim. Nothing added or taken away.

I found out, in that moment of realizing that I got EXACTLY what I asked for, that I didn't ask for enough. I wasn't brave enough to consider the possibility that, just maybe, I could have a reality even more impossible and extravagant than I ever thought possible two years ago when I set those thoughts into motion.

My point is to KNOW exactly what it is you want, down to the smallest or far reaching detail you can imagine, and to not give up chasing it and trying to manifest it every day. Something Napoleon Hill teaches. He's a huge advocate of doing all the work necessary too, and making real sacrifices to see it through, but you've got to know your goal like a vivid memory.

I wasn't that far into this when I achieved what I set out to do. So I ended up getting exactly what I asked for.

Ask for more. Dream bigger. Work for it.

        All things are possible.

If you can smell the air around you, feel the heat on your body, know the time of day, even what you're doing at your goal's completion while in your mind and imagination, then work to create that reality for yourself, nothing can hold you back.

The world will step aside because you want it that badly. BUT, be specific. As specific as you can be, down to the smell of honeysuckle in the air. Create that reality.

In my experience that is the kind of thing Hill was teaching us when setting goals, then working to get them.

The Millionaire Next DoorThe Millionaire Next Door is a classic read. The authors write about what real wealth is... Not having ten exotic cars... A big house.... Yachts... Expensive toys.... Those are not wealth.... Those are artifacts of wealth... Rather, real wealth is your net worth...

It studies the real wealthy.... Who they are will shock you.... They live in modest homes... Drive modest cars.... Prefer sandwiches over caviar... Usually own their own business...

It is not only informative.... It is also entertaining... I highly recommend it.

    All the Best,

I would have to second Think & Grow Rich but alos add to that Psycho Cybernetics and The Secret.

All of them set of lightbulbs in my head and have not only made a difference to how successful I now making money but also has made a significant difference to my personal life too.

I wasn't a reader - two children under the age of 5 doesn't help! - but I found time even if it is only a chapter a night before I go to bed.

I find it's best not to worry if certain sections of the book don't make sense when you first read them - either go back and re-read it at a later date or when you read a different book, you 'll find something in that will give clarity to the 'vague' point in the previous book.

A friend has also suggested Trance Formations so I'll let you know about that once I have got my hands on a copy.

Psycho Cybernetics completely changed my life and my thinking. I recommend it to anyone who wants to succeed and to be happier.

Another book that made a major difference in my life is I Can Make You Confident by Paul McKenna read this and listen to the CD thats included and you will get an amazing boost in confidence and self-belief. It made the difference in my IM career!!

With both of these books, as with any self-help program, you need to take action and follow all the exercises. If you do you will be amazed by the results.

I have indeed read in fact TWO books that changed my way of thinking and subsequently my life. The first book was "Ask and It Is Given".

The second was Psycho Cybernetics. Perhaps not as much so, ONLY because I had already read "Ask and it is Given". Had I read "Cybernetics" first, it would have blown me out of the water just as much as "Ask" did.

Interestingly enough they really have the same essential message, but "Ask" is from a more spiritual point of view, whereas Psycho Cybernetics is perhaps a bit more focused on brain function. But the (very empowering) messages completely overlap.

(By the way, the author(s) of "Ask And It Is Given", Abraham-Hicks, are the creators of the term "Law of Attraction", from way back in the early 80s..and if you REALLY want to understand that term, you should read and/or listen to their stuff. Much much deeper, more comprehensive and satisfying than most of what you will read about the "Law of Attraction" (including The Secret).)

Without a doubt, if you have never thought about the power of your own thoughts and energy to guide your own life, then these books will change your life.

I'd also be leaving something out if I didn't mention Simpleology. Simpleology.com took the fire started in me by the four hour work week and gave it direction.

    I recommend both to everyone.

Oh yes, I have to agree with this one too! The Four Hour Work Week definitely changed my life! Perhaps not quite on the same "change the way you look at yourself and the entire world" as "Ask and it is Given" and "Psycho Cybernetics", but definitely opened my eyes to the business path I am now on!

Some really interesting suggestions here which I'll definitely pick up.

Two books in particular have shaped the way I think about things (although not finance-related at all.)
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig - I don't think it would be an over-statement to say that this book taught me to think. For the first time in my life (I read it when I was 15) I began to think about thinking. It was the perfect introduction to philosophy and how our thoughts shape our reality.
William Horwood's "Duncton" series - it's strange probably to include a fiction book on a list like this, but the books have had a profound influence on my ethical development, in particular helping me find inner strength and the confidence to go my own way instead of following the crowd.

I bought 6 of them and gave them out to my friends (who know nuts about making money online...think of them like the corporate kinda guys)...and we all agreed that its one of the greatest book we have ever read. At least, it changed their mindset about wealth and getting themselves interested in being an entrepreneur.

Many books have changed my life in the short term but none have stuck. That's my current journey, trying to make LASTING change.

Back in the day it was Think and Grow Rich, Richest Man in Babylon, Tony Robbins.

Recently it was Leo Babauta's Power of Less, Tim Ferriss' Four Hour Workweek, Chris Guillebeau's Art of Nonconformity.

I'm now revisiting all of the above in turn looking at LASTING change, not just a new way of doing things for a week or a month.

Off of that list, I will have to HIGHLY recommend:

    2: 50 Success Classics - Tom Butler-Bowden

3: Three Feet from Gold: Turn Your Obstacles Into Opportunities - Sharon Lechter, Greg S Reid

4: Life Without Limits - Nick Vujicic

Off of that list, Nick Vujicic's LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS is one that REALLY changed me.

After spreadsheeting how I spend my time and analyzing it for a few weeks, it was ridiculous how much time I was wasting. I was in shock. Going from 8 hour days to 2 hour days isn't an exaggeration. Of course you could just spend 8 hours at full productivity. Your choice.

He has about 140 (200 by end of this year) self help/philosophy/self improvement books each synthesized down to 6 page PDFs/20 min audios covering their "Big Ideas" along with exercises to implement those ideas. He also draws common threads throughout all the literature. Great for if you are pressed for time and only want the highest leverage stuff. He's an intelligent, generous, passionate guy.

I'm totally loving reading about all the wonderful books in this thread. There are several I haven't yet read and I'm looking forward to picking them up.

One of the books that cracked me wide open is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It was 2000 and I picked it up after hearing positive feedback from others. The paragraph that changed my life was one in which he writes,

"To be alive is the biggest fear humans have. Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive -- the risk to be alive and express what we really are. Just being ourself is the biggest fear of humans. We have learned to live our life trying to satisfy other people's demands. We have leaned to live by other people's points of view because of our fear of not being accepted and of not being good enough for someone else."

It's funny, because at the time, this was a revolutionary concept for me. But now it feels tame. However at the time it caused me to re-evaluate almost everything about my life.

Other books that changed my life:

You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay (back in the mid-80s this was ground breaking)

Mastering Your Hidden Self by Serge Kahali King (one of the first metaphysical books I ever read. Again, it cracked me open to a larger concept of the world).

Books by SARK - they helped to give myself permission to be myself.

There are many more, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

      Cheers!

I have read Rich Dad and Poor Dad. This book taught me quite a number of things that I have applied in my life like getting out of debts and not buying things that are liabilities. The second book is Think and Grow Rich written by Napoleon Hill.

I once read a book titled SYBIL, a true to life based story. Well it does not really change my life but my perspective does. The story really touches my way of thinking as I realized the significance of a child's personality as they are growing each day.

For me the Four Hour Work Week def changed my life and way of thinking. I also recommend Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, which is all about success.

The Millionaire Messenger by Brendon Burchard and Crush It! by Gary Vaynerchuk are both great book relating to the IM world.

      Hi,

I think that in order to influence your financial life, you need to know how to influence people and have those essential leadership qualities. The great author of leadership ''Dale Carnegie'' and his set of excellent books have made me something from nothing..

I have been a reader of all the great Positive Mental Attitude books. N.Hill,D.Swartz,Peale,Carnegie. But the most amazing book was from an author that I was unfamiliar with. OG Mandino - "The Greatest Miracle In the World". A friend gave it to me. I started reading and couldn't put it down! I finished at 3am. It is a life changing book. I have given away no less than 100 copies. I only hope you might have the same experience.

    Till then...

i loved "the sixteenth round" -- the true story of rubin carter accused of murder.
if you think you got it bad read this and you realise that maybe life aint so bad afterall.
he is a powerful writer, great at putting across all the events in his life through his eyes
-the pains, lows, highs - i even bought a couple of copies just to hand out to friends expecting that i would not get some back -- they all loved it too and started recommending themselves! - "the power of now" eckhart tolle but probably suited to those that do meditation or you probably wont appreciate the language. unfortunately as great as these books are they did not have lasting effects on me eitheir as someone commented earlier. great movie-shawshank redemption "get busy living or get busy dying" most famous words of the movie -- just thought i'd throw that one in though we are not talking about movies

Most definitely "The Secret". It's by far the one book that changed my lfe.

"The Power" was also another great book.

Those two books really are great and while others may not like them, that's there problem...lol Those books are great and it can be applied to anything.

Short story for those who don't believe in the Law of Attraction:

One day, I was really hoping to make a Clickbank sale, so what I did of course was work hard by promoting a product. I then went to YouTube and watched a few videos of Bob Proctor about The Secret. And for the rest of the day, I was super happy. I also cpuldn't even sleep because I just kept on convincing myself that there was a sale in my Clickbank Account. Right when I checked my account in the middle of the morning (at 5:30 am) and there was a sale of $56 from the product IllusionMage.

What was funny was the fact that the whole day before, I didn't even work on promoting Illusionmage. I promoted this product weeks before and wasn't even expecting a sale from this product.

That goes to show you that the Law of Attraction does work (as long as you put some action along with the positive thinking)

I'd like to say I really enjoyed those two books. However I was so against reading them to start off with - I think it was to do with the marketing of them. They are also written in a way that has put a lot of people off reading past the first few pages.

Personally anything from Steven Covey has such great worth.
I have read the '7 Habits' over and over.

A great starting point for people too.

hmmm, no one said the bible

One book that truly opened my eyes was a series of books, actually. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Before you laugh, it is not from anything profound that I learned from hobits or elves. But by giving me a love of reading that has never left me, in almost 40 years. I have traveled the world, been on many great adventures, and read the thoughts of some of the most brilliant men that have ever existed, all thanks to having to write a 9th grade book report that forced me to read the Tolkien novels, so many years ago.

So yes, reading those books opened up an entire world of knowledge and genius for me, making it a life changing event.

I'm just a half way reading it, but it has changed many things! It's 1000 times better than self help books I've ever read that rather be airy-fairy. Tony Robbins concepts are very down to earth.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie
I read this when I was 14 and it changed my perception toward people greatly! I now lost this book because I gave this to my long distant boyfriend but he never returned nor applied it At least the book has been printed well in my mind and everything I do.

since the OP said financial books I will stick to that topic.

this being an IM forum Im surprised noone mentioned this book

The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris.

This book really made me think about how to scale up my business and stop trying to do it all myself.

Ive always run my business as a one man show but that book and reading through this forum have completely changed my mind to realize that with only 24 hours a day a one man show is pretty limited in the income I can generate.

So Im off to figure out how to layout a plan get some VAs and outsource tasks to them so I can focus on the money generating ideas and leave the administration to them.

  • Well, being honest...none.

However, after reading stories of young entrepreneurs and 15 year old millionaires I kind of had mixed feelings. My feelings were:

    1) Wow, this has inspired me to do this for myself. I can do this. I can achieve anything that I want to in life.

    2) Isn't amazing how human desire for money kicks in from such a young age?

that's just me though! Do you get what I mean?
