Is 25 years old too old to succeed?

Hi, I normally don't write these types of posts, but I'm writing this post out of frustration, anger, and depression after having just had an argument with my mom and dad. I basically forgot to turn in an important document to my professor, and even she went off on a rant on me, implying that I was a irresponsible student. I felt so low that day when open the door and I walked out of her classroom.

This news basically meant that I could not take summer classes. So I had to drop two of my classes for the summer, and now take four classes during the winter. I told my mom and dad this news. They started to yell at me.

The last thing I remember was my dad needing to end his phone call at work with the words, "You are not taking education seriously enough!"

The truth is I don't really want to be an English teacher. I only chose English as a major in college because I liked to write about my days in my journal as a kid. I don't know who else to tell this too. My parents don't understand, and all of my good high school friends now have successful, full-time jobs. One makes about $60,000 a year as an air inspector, and I assume the other one makes about $80,000 a year working in a accounting firm.

When my friends are sharing stories about where they have traveled or where they plan to travel next, I am mostly quiet and pretend to put a smile on my face.

Sometimes they will ask me what I'm currently doing with my life though, so I tell them that I'm still taking classes to get my teaching credential. They then boost my mood up telling me to not worry because teacher jobs will eventually open up soon (I think out of sympathy). I nod and go along with it, even though I don't have any interest to be one (yes, I said it!)

Even though I tell myself to keep trying, despite being felt looked down upon because I having a secret obsession with internet marketing, I wonder what I am doing...

After I graduated from college (22), I read an article that guaranteed you make $3,000 a month. That was June of 2008 and now tomorrow is June of 2011. Three years have basically gone by and I've never even made $10 a month. The only thing I made was a few hundred dollars, a bunch of failed websites, and now close to a whopping $2,000 in credit card debt.

Nowadays, you see success stories all the time from teenagers who make $10,000 a month. I think of my past and say, "I wish I had started this earlier so I wouldn't have gotten myself into this crazy mess." But I'm no longer a teenager. I'm 25 years old and still living in my parents' home.

My friends recently posted pictures of them traveling on Facebook, but I didn't want to look. I didn't go with them because I didn't have the money, but really, my dream is to travel. I want to so badly see the skyscrapers of Hong Kong or visit the city streets of Japan.

Even though I'm taking the proper graduate school path, I could eventually get into the whole teaching thing, and save up enough money, but I know that would make me miserable.

In the world of education, most people, such as peers and faculty, are overly serious about small things.

You guys are so much more chill, laid-back, and cooler.

Anyway, to close this up, I feel stuck. Three whole years have gone by and I have nothing to show for it. I don't want to disappoint my parents, yet I don't want to go down that path either.

I'm supposed to be at the age where I have the job, the lovely wife, and the beautiful house.

That was what I was thought was going to happen when I was 18. But none of these things happened, and I feel like I've failed myself.

Is 25 years old too old to succeed in internet marketing?

    No Way!

I am 28 years old and my wife and myself just came back from Phoenix, AZ at a great marketing event. I have been in the business for less than a year and am doing just fine!

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. That is your first issue!

I came to the point where I was sick and tired of spending more time away from my family with people that I don't hardly know (at a job)! I had to make a change and I did!

Not saying it is for everyone but you seem that you are searching and have something to prove to people.

Message me if you would like some help and more info on what I did. Seriously! No B.S.!

What is with this Facebook generation and immediate need for success and their fear of getting older?

25 years old, too old to succeed? You've got to be kidding me. When I was 25 years old, I was making $36K per year programming for IBM and I was only the "do boy" of my team. Most of my co-workers were in their 40's and 50's and had established themselves through years of employment and were bringing home 6 figure salaries.

That was 17 years ago. Before most of the Facebook generation were even born. But you know what? I let it get to me and I quit my job, left the pension behind for playing guitar in a hardcore band because I thought I was going to be a rock star. Guess what? Never happened and I lost an incredible pension opportunity that I'm still trying to make up for that mistake.

These kids who don't even remember when MTV played music videos, let alone TV without cable ALL believe they are supposed to start at the top of the ladder, have everything handed to them and that any bump in the road needs medication for anxiety, depression, etc. Such a pre-programmed generation. Success or failure, there is no in-between (a marketers wet dream).

First off, you need to slow down. So your friends went to Hong Kong. Big deal, you know how many hard working Americans who slaved 40-60 hours per week have never even been out of the country? My dad was in the Army in Korea, came back stateside, got a job. The man never took a vacation, EVER. So why do you think some young kid with no work ethic deserves what hard working people never had?

Sounds like you're letting personal jealousy issues get the best of you. Grow up, not everybody can do everything in one lifetime.

If IM isn't working for you, try getting a real job. At least you get health care, 401K and maybe a pension which is essential once you get older. IM is for the birds.

Also remember, Ray Kroc was nearly 60yo when he founded McDonalds BUT that was in a service industry, not marketing.

I'm 23 and just starting out, and I empathize with the way you feel. I graduated from a top-10 university last year and the best job offer I've come by is slinging coffees at a Starbucks that is a 45 minute commute from my parent's house. Less gas and taxes, I'd be making about $2 an hour. I hate my life.

It doesn't cost that much to travel, really, if your debts are manageable. Europe and Japan aren't exactly budget destinations, but there are lots of places that can be visited long-term in south america and asia for relatively cheap. Transportation is the expensive part, but once you're in your living expenses will be far below what they would be in the US.

Don't give up on IM, no matter what the jackass old people here have to say about our lazy generation. (....especially when they describe how they pissed away their best opportunity in life). I think it's important to tune out negative people because you'll never get where you want to be in life with them dragging you down.

Your goal should be to make $1.5k per month (totally doable with the right skills if people on here are to be believed), then relocate to a low cost country abroad to keep your expenses low and have a little fun while continuing to save money, pay off debts, etc.

Edit: I believe the term for this is "geoarbitrage"

25 too old? You can't be serious? Listen I'm only responding to your post because I can relate to what your going thru an my life has many similarities. I am currently 25 yrs old, I started internet marketing 3 yrs ago in 2008 at 22 an in 2008 I sucked horribly. I tried that course "day job killer"<---failed miserably, then I tried "bullet cash"<---failed miserally, then I tried "adsense code"<---made 15 bucks then failed miserably. And, I can go on an on with the "failed miserably" lmao. But, Where we differ is I knew if I kept going eventually I'd punch thru to the other side. And, early 2010 I finally did. I found my first foothold in offline marketing, then I finally figured out what cpa meant. I had been receiving emails about it for over a yr and always thought it was a scam and then I read a post about it on the warriorforum and slapped myself for being so closed minded. I started succeeding with that, then magically I started making money in affliate marketing. Its been like a domino effect but it certainly didn't happen overnight. Keep trying, stop killing your credit score and success will meet you halfway but u HAVE TO!!!! do your part, pay your dues, an never lose faith and you'll get it. Good luck to you!

      Dude.

A lot of massive action will get you out of your funk. Nothing else. There is no other way.

If you made 5k a month online (in a respectable/legit manner) you'd feel great about what you did, and you'd have all the freedom in the world.

Since you DON'T have any money, the only way you are going to make this money is trading your time (writing content/making videos).

Seriously, your path is set. Right?

So get cracking making a butt-load of high quality content and put it on websites that you create! Help a bunch of people with every piece of content you put on the web.

DO this until you reach your goal, and you'll succeed. Period. Age has nothing to do with it.

That's exactly right. 25 Years old is not old! That is young. There are plenty of people who are starting this in their 50's, 60's and older that are having fantastic success online. Age ain't nuthin but a number.

This is the KEY right here. Age has nothing to do with success... You can be successful at 18 or 80. The key is to keep doing it and realize that failure is not failure until you quit. When you quit, you have failed.

That is so not true. Success doesn't discriminate age, and plus at 25 honestly I think you are still good to go. If others with no IM experience, 50+ can still succeed I don't see why you can't?

Start thinking positively and take some action towards it, never give up and eventually those actions will lead to results.

    Hope this helps

Guess how old the the Kernal (Kentucky Fried Chicken guy) was when he started? 25? Nope. 45? Nope.... 55?? NOPE!

65 years old! When he STARTED! He had no experience, money, or any resources to succeed, yet he did. He used what he had which is limited to his own thoughts and emotions, and a killer chicken recipe and that's about it. There is absolutely no age limit to success.

      Hey,

I am 23 years old, and I have been internet marketing for 2 years now. My first year sucked because I didn't make any money at all. Well maybe a couple cents. Then I got hooked up with this company and I quite my job and Living the good life being a website owner and working from anywhere. This funny you say you don't want to be an English teacher. I actually was going to school for the same thing as my parents forced me to . I quit that and my parents got mad and I became a personal trainer instead. Lol. totally off the lines of English. Now I am going to school for business management because my business online is really speeding up and getting bigger. I need business under my belt for that. I am only 23 and I make a hell of a living online right now. And its funny, I thought I was going to be an English teacher. Don't give up. Things workout but you have to work for it. The past to years for me has been a crazy road to success but its all worth it now. Plus I love what I do now.

I am getting my mom involved in this and she is 56 and she is already making $1000 a week with only two months into internet marketing. At any age you can succeed . Keep at it and DO NOT GIVE UP. IT WILL COME.

If I would of gave up after the first year, I would of been still working for a factory in Wisconsin. lol.

Hope this motivates you and I hope this helps.

        Wow...NO.

There is no age that is TOO old to succeed.

        I started online marketing in 2005 when I was 23. I failed terribly until 2008 when I made a sale..woo hoo.

Then I continued to fail until 2010 when I finally decided I wanted to get serious and not take this as a hobby.

I left my 80k/year job in Feb 2010 and have never looked back.

        I was 28 years old.

You CAN do this but you have to decide it is what you want and go for it.

In my case there were many 16-18 hour days involved sometimes several days in a row. It wasn't easy because I made a lot of mistakes but it was totally possible.

Today, it is easier than ever thanks to the massive ability to outsource.

Don't give up. Get focused and make it your mission in life to be successful. The money will follow.

        Cheers!

I am in the same shoes as you. Yes I have thought about "I wish I have done this at age of XX" like you. But you know what I do differently? Instead of letting it beat me down. The next second I say to myself "oh well, back to making more sites" or "If he can do it, I can do it"

You look at these kids and be jealous of them just because they are making 10k a month? I have been working for a family for the past 3-4 years, babysitting their kids. Perfect family, handsome and full of life little kids, millions dollar home, recently got a porsche, and much more than that can make a poor person like me depressed as hell but I don't. Because it's just not worth it, no matter how much money you make, there's always going to be a person make more than you.

I've been building websites at age of 14 I am now 23, I've been learning and doing IM for the past 2 years and did I make ANYTHING? sure a few hundreds over the year then I spent it on the next tools or next program to learn more. To make a long story short, I am still making nothing but I am not depress and beat myself down just because someone younger make more money than me. My point is, you shouldn't either.

Your age has nothing to do with how much you can make. Your mindset does. Block out every negative things people say about you or not believing you and focus on your goal =) stop making excuses of how you cannot succeed, "because I am 25 years old..." etc. I am telling you, you CAN and you are not too old. Old or young is irrelevant to IM.

Did I say you CAN make it IM? let me say it again to you, you CAN!

Now what you have to do it's cheer up and get it work, ok!

Something I take pride in is swimming twice a week. Often I'm in the pool with people swimming much further and much faster than I am.

However, the race isn't with other people, it's with myself. (I couldn't care less what they're doing.) And that's what I do. I compete with myself to swim further and further. Because the only thing that really matters is how good I am compared to how good I am.

              Wow. What depth of wisdom.

              --

You failed. SO WHAT? Did you manage to walk right after you stood on your two feet the first time? Probably not. And comparing yourself to someone who might have done exactly that doesn't help either. You CAN walk. You CAN fly.

Should we all cry because the 17 year old Justin Bieber has 28Mio fans on Facebook and therefore created an asset that will allow him to never worry about money ever again for the rest of his life if he has at least some financial IQ? NO. We can see in him an example of someone who dreamed and succeeded. Yes, there are people who dreamed & failed but the only way you can fail in your dream is to quit & turn away from it. Always reach for the guiding light within you - it will bring you to your own personal heaven.

One more thing that I'd like for EVERYONE to learn:
How does it feel when you say: "I failed. I'm not good enough. My parents probably hate me for being a loser." ?
How does it feel when you say: "I can do this. And I know others have done it before me so there is a bright path there for me to go. This can work. I know it's possible." ?

The only reason the first sentences feel so empty is because your Inner Being would NEVER think a thought like that. Those thoughts are EMPTY of your Inner Being and that's why they FEEL so empty. Your Inner Being is STRONG. Your Inner Being KNOWS your value. Your Inner Being is CONFIDENT in you succeeding. Your Inner Being FILLS you with VITALITY, CLARITY & BRILLIANT IDEAS in perfect timing. Count all the blessings that you already have the universe will shower you with abundance in all areas...
You are UNCONDITIONALLY loved & your dream is going to get you - because without you it cannot manifest. It's a done deal or else it wouldn't feel so AWFUL not manifesting. Just relax & go with your own flow.

Much joy & success my friend

First of all, forget about other people. You we're born alone, and you will die alone. And on a more esoteric level, you're always alone and you're the only one living your reality. Forget about other people's perceptions and live your life as you wish to. Envying other people will get you no where in life and will only make your existence more miserable...

I am 25 yrs old and I know more and execute more than most people Guess how old my mentor was ? 18 years and he was the one who helped me make my first dollar online . Age is just a number as long as you have the right mindset and you are discipline to execute on your action plan you would see results soon enough

To me, this seems like more of a pity party than a serious question, but I'll answer with a feel good and a not-so-feel-good.

The feel good - I have had multiple personal interactions with a 82 year old "retired" but nearly broke farmer, that got started in IM just five months ago. He bought his first computer less than a year ago. He had never sent an email in his entire life before then.

He's a persistent old man, and because of that... he's made a small, but for him substantial, addition to his Social Security income. If he can do it, anyone can, case closed.

The not-so-feel-good - You say your prof. implied you were an irresponsible student. If you forget to turn in important assignments, she may be right. Not trying to slam you when you're down, but that "forgetfulness" probably extends all over your life, and of course into your past marketing efforts.

Forget about the "make $3000 a month guarantee", it's a lie. Yes, a lie, there are no guarantees. Can a guarantee that an oaf that won't get off of his backside will make money? Ridiculous. Making money takes work. Making lots of money takes work, or lottery style good timing.

Quit worrying about what everyone else is doing and get busy, if you aren't seeing results from what you've done the last three years, try something different. Just learn from what you've learned, and make it happen.

If you want this bad enough, you will get it.

Don't compare bro! If you compare to someone better you will always seem less.. if you compare to someone less you will always be more.. be yourself and be happy at what you do. When you feel stuck in life you should go to charity, volunteer and give back to other.. you have no idea how much you will gain from this. But anyhow.. nope 25 is not too late to be success in IM if you work at it and learn how to focus. You may have to spend more hours to catch up and take action but it will all be worth it at the end.. I have a friend who is 32 in life and still lost You are fine!

Dude! If you were going for an English Major and are a US citizen, I can guarantee you $50 a day!

Just sign up on Textbroker.com, write 5-10 short articles a day and get out of debt.

Once you have enough capital you can easily create niche websites and get a steady income.

Once all that is done, you are ready to sit back, rake in the minimum cash needed and try out various IM techniques!

Instead of jumping right into CPA or creating your own products, do what you are an expert at (writing) and get a decent flow of cash to regain your self-confidence.

Though I'm not a millionaire yet () I'm still 21 and dropped out of the best engineering college in India (IIT Kharagpur) to trade shares on the stock market and become an author! In the off-trading hours and on weekends, I get some extra cash by writing on Textbroker.

What you need to make yourself understand is that no matter what others are saying, a degree is not the solution! Neither is it as important as living life as you choose to!

    Regards

    Samir

25? I hope its not an insult. The weird thing is everybody I know personally started life (and also IM) seriously in their mid30's. Haven't tasted success yet bigtime, only little ones and failed a number of times (that includes me). The good thing about most of us is for every failure, we become a little bit wiser.

It could be worse. You could be a siamese twin and your brother could be totally unmotivated.

You know those little hobbies that you do? The stuff your dad probably hates?

Do those things for money. Put them on autopilot though, so yeah, create your own products. Heck, create a service. Make some big money, buy a beemer man! In fact, go down to the BMW dealer right now. Do it. Bring your dad with you and tell him you are going to buy him a 6 series convertible. Finance it, do the lease.

Then tomorrow, start calling businesses in the yellow pages and sell them a web design package, fulfill the service yourself in the beginning to pay for dad's new 6 series.

So tell us what happens when you get back from the dealer and then after your first 50 calls.

You could get into this well into your forties and fifties, maybe even longer. Age would only hinder you in your knowledge of technology, as it's easier for younger people to keep up with newer technologies as they are more exposed to it, or in your ability to do physical work. Typing with arthritis probably wouldn't be great.

Sweet pea, I am 26 years old with 2 kids under 2 and I am just starting. I am just learning the ropes around here, but I am so thankful I found this forum (thankful doesn't even begin to say how I feel about this forum).

I'm going to say something to you and I hope you really hear it - If you do not believe in yourself, who do you think will believe in you?

That is something I have had issues with as I have grown up. I blamed other people and I felt sorry for myself and I thought to myself I couldn't do it. Now I am my biggest fan and I know I will need help along the way, but I know what I am capable of and I am capable of great things. I have a hunch that you are probably capable of great things too. If you don't think you can, then you can't. If you think you can, then you can - it is as easy as your mindset darlin'.

In my opinion most of the people who are claiming to earn big numbers online are mostly all shams and should be ignored.

Many people fail at IM because they get sucked into the get rich quick mentality of IM, try a variety of money making systems and quit when they don't see fast cash coming in the door.

You should find one part of online marketing that will work for you, stick with it and then keep building on your success.

Remember when you want to be successful don't put expectations on things, this way you can't be let down. If you stay positive and keep moving forward you'll see that things will begin to gravitate towards you and the money will surely roll in. I'm almost 28 and i'm very successful because I was MOTIVATED... that's all you need. Age has nothing to do with success, people start their lives waay later than 25. Just make sure you find the right tools and don't get involved in any home based businesses that's promises to make you rich over night. None of them work. NONE. This is a good forum just be careful and remember never to over complicate things, it'll only stress you. Good luck and much success.

Here is a video to help you. 25 is NOT too old to succeed. You need to reset your mindset.

John Reese's -- Reboot Your Brain!

I am 35 - have been working online for 4 or 5 years trying to make it. I went full time earlier this year and am doing well.

I did this with 3 kids, a full time job, house and husband to take care of!

You CAN do this -- pick ONE method -- APPLY it. Work at it EVERYDAY - don't buy another product -- don't get side tracked -- FOCUS.

Follow people who are successful and do what they do.

Just wanted to add in my .02 here....

I am by no means an "expert" in the field of IM, mainly because the bulk of my business is purely SEO (which is a part of IM). However, I can relate to your story and exactly how you feel.

I'm 26 years old, still live with my parents, am still single and I own a business now for the past 3 years. When I went to college, I majored in English because I liked to write. Much like you, I didn't want to necessarily become a teacher, which is almost the inevitable fate of most English majors. When I graduated college (I crammed 4 years into 5) I had a BA in Creative Writing/English and a minor in Communications. I moved back home after college and I thought I'd have no problem getting a job b/c of my fresh degree and willingness to work whenever. Well....FAIL. I ended up working in a Macy's for about 2 days before I quit, because I just couldn't deal with people who had a lower education than me, telling me what to do and speaking to me like I was a child. I'm a grown ass man and will not accept that.

So, I quit my job and the next 6 months were filled with unemployment, debt, and pissed off parents (my dad in particular). It wasn't until 6 months later that I decided to use my writing to become a copywriter and start a freelance copywriting business. So I did. Eventually, the copywriting turned into website content, which turned into website design, which turned into SEO. 3 years later, I still live at home and I'm still single. But I went from making $0.00 a month and working out of my bedroom, to making a few hundred a month and now I have my own office for free (trading services). I may not be making thousands of dollars right now, but you know what ? I will. But I still have to learn, experience and repeat. That's the key to success.

I have plenty of friends who were born into rich families and were given everything they wanted as a child. They've never known what it's like to be "poor" or "unwealthy" and the stresses it puts on you and your family. They have great jobs too making $40-$50K a year which is good money for a 26 year old. And just like you, they like to party and spend money like it's nothing and often I can't join in for lack of funds. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN A DAMN THING!!!! And you need to realize that! I look at it this way...I could be just like my friends and go get a "regular job" where I could make a guaranteed paycheck. OR I could continue to pursue my dream of building an SEO firm from the ground up, with nothing but my own sweat, blood and tears. And when I retire, I can look back and know that I accomplished something that most people never will or even try to - a SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS that MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLES LIVES. I may not be able to party my ass off, or go on great trips, or spend money on useless things...but, one day I will and I will have earned it in every sense of the word. And when my friends start to complain about their jobs, the hours, their bosses, their coworkers, the "bitch work" they have to do - that's when I can smile and say, "Yeah, I don't have any of those problems. I love my job and what I do and I built a company from the ground up with no idea of where to start or how to do it. But I did it."

Nobody can or cannot make you a successful person. I walk into corporations and sit down with multimillionaires that are 40 years older than me and look at me like I'm some young kid who couldn't possibly help their business grow on the net. But, when I walk into a room, my head is held high, my shoulders are back, I'm walking tall and I've got a aura if you will, that has "respect" just beaming from it. And 9 times out of 10, I get that respect. Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do something. There will always be people that doubt you - that's fine. Let them. But, that doesn't mean you won't succeed.

You've got to decide what is right for you. If you like to write, then do it!!!! Maybe it will turn into something else, like it did for me, and eventually become profitable. And there are plenty of 26 year olds still living at home with their parents. The economy sucks and unemployment is sky high so relax. Don't sweat the small things. if your parents don't necessarily approve it, it doesn't matter. Your parents aren't the ones making your future, you are. And in time, when you are successful, they'll realize that.

Put yourself on a path that you WANT to be on. Work hard to pave that road the rest of the way and NEVER tell yourself that you cannot do something. You can do anything goddamn thing that you want to. Have faith in yourself, get active in your community and quit being jealous of your friends. I guarantee in 5 years, they'll hate their jobs and you'll be happy as a lark doing what you love. NOW GO BE SUCCESSFUL!!!!

Age is just a number, its more about your mindset for me.

I think a lot of kids on the internet are so succesful as they are fearless. They dont worry about failure, they just do it. Action is key. The problem with the older generation is that they have probably worked as corporate slaves for years and got into the mindset that money is difficult to come by as that has been drummed into them over the years. That can be a hard mindset to shift.

For the record, I'm 30 next month and have no doubt in my mind that I'm on my way to success.

  • I recall reading about this story

    news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7275861.stm

A 101-year-old man has his sights on the London Marathon in a bid to become the world's oldest competitive runner.
Working plumber Buster Martin ran Sunday's Roding Valley half marathon in Essex in five hours 13 minutes, and is now focusing on London's 26-mile event.

On finishing the run, the first words of the ex-member of rock band The Zimmers were: "Where's my beer?"

Mr Martin, who has 17 children, started work at Pimlico Plumbers in London three years ago because he was bored.

He drank a tankard of ale before signing autographs and chatting to fans near the finish line of the Essex race.

I REALLY wish my wife would read forums like this.

She just doesnt trust internet marketing. She always says "why would someone help you? They don't want to give themselves more competition."

The problem is she got a traditional business degree, where they drill that stuff into your head. And while its true that the "gurus" will never tell you EVERYTHING (like their highest converting keywords), every day there is an excellent system described in a WSO or even just a regular post.

I think what most people who think "IM is scammy" don't realize is that ITS TOUGH, which is why we need support like this forum!

I have a day job- its 100 times easier to do something when you're forced to. Don't show up, don't get paid.

But when you have to make yourself do something like IM where the paycheck isnt guaranteed.... that's tough.

Here's my take on it all- whether you've tried 1 thing that didn't work or 20- KEEP GOING. Like other members have said, you can always provide services like writing or making videos to get a consistent cash flow!

I am 35 and in a little bit than year ago, i didn;t know anything about IM. Heck, if u asked me these days what SEO menas, I would probably think that it is some abbreviations of some terrorist organization

But I was studying...and studying..and studying....every day and every night stuckedd in front of computer...and stdying..and studying..

Then I realised That i am studyng too much, but not doing anything in practice

So, I made some moves. Nothing big. I failed. Ok, I started again. I had some success, like earning from IM enough to buy a cigarettes. Ok. I tried harder, I put all of my efforts...

Now, after 6 months of internet marketing, I am earning a little bit more than $1000 per month. I don't want to lie and "bump" my earnings. But I know, witjh all my knowledge which continiously grows, that in June next year will be earning at least $3000 per month, or maybe more. I have enough faith in myself. You should have in yourself too. Just don't give up..

I am pretty much on the same boat, except i am 20 now and i started when i was 15. I too have a secret obsession with Internet Marketing and so far not all my friends are quite there yet since they all are in college & so forth.

My parents too think i am simply wasting my time and too spent 5 years learning without making any serious money, even tho i do occasionally make a couple of hundred dollars via freelancing, my adsense check takes 6 month to arrive and i been experimenting with cpa and manage to reach payout monthly. But i too believe i am not there yet, i need to step up my game and right now i have 2 months of summer vacations left and i want to make the most of it because after that its back to uni again and the same old life full of frustrations and regrets.

My biggest problem though is procastination, if ONLY i could get over from being lazy i know i could possible make some money and even help my dad pay off the huge loans he took to send me to a british university (and just like you i am doing something unrelated to my intrests, i am doing Civil Engneering - for the sake of family reputation bla bla, 3 more years left and i perhaphs then i can start my own online venture) But who knows what the future holds, the best advise i can give is 'take actions' its never too late for anything, in fact 25 is quite young (i am 5 years behind) for Internet Marketing.

Let me put it this way, if you managed to succeed with one venture, one product, one site you could basically live off that for the rest of your life. Laser focus yourself and keep at it. Funny thing is i should be telling the same to myself xD anyways good luck mate.

I know what you mean here... I'm horrible for putting things off. I have to continually write down and give a deadline for things I want to do.

If I don't put it down with reminders to have something done by a certain date and time then I won't get it done.

Print off this quote and put it somewhere where you can see it... I find it a great way to guilt me into getting to work and not procastinating...

"Most people do what's fun and easy, rather than what's hard and necessary" - Brian Tracy.

If you look at whenever you're procastinating.. ask yourself are you doing what's fun and easy again?

  • Society is really good at telling you where "you should be" and what you "should do" by a certain age. It really is, and it can get to you if you let it. But the biggest thing is that everyone is different, and everyone has different drawbacks, and this is not a cookie-cutter world!!

All your friends may post this and that, but most of the time its superficial stuff, and underneath, they are having relationship problems, are in debt, etc. So don't go by your friends wall posts. Trust me on this one.

Anyways like your user name says you just need to keep trying and keep going. Be persistent, and confident, and KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. This can be the difference between making it and not making it. If you don't know what you want, society will tell you what you "SHOULD want" and you will go down the river of me-too''s.

I would say embrace your differences, and just keep goin and keep trying. And really find out what you really want, and then GO GET IT!!

and 25 IS NOT TOO OLD.. I really suggest you get a copy of "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Your local library may have a copy (ours do). You can buy it on Amazon as well.

Or you can download it for free online now. Although I do recommend that you own the actual physical copy. You'll get more out of it in my opinion.

Look deep into your soul and figure out what you really want to do, then focus on that. Don't think about money. Do it for the sake of doing it. If it doesn't work out, at least you were doing something you were passionate about. Also, stop comparing yourself to others.

    Not at all!

I'm 28 and certainly don't feel as if I'm too old for anything. You just need to take a deep breath and think onwards and upwards. Part of your difficulties might be that you are so stressed and dejected that you are (I hate to use this word) psyching yourself out.

dude, don't despair. I know exactly how you feel.

I'm 23... living with my parents.. back in college and dreading getting a real job. I'm also secretly in love with internet marketing...

the number 1 thing I want to say to you right now has two parts: 1. don't give up on IM. I haven't and I'm not making millions yet. It's all about having a dream and going after it. Remember that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. so if what you are currently doing in IM is not working, its time to switch it up a little bit and try something new... and 2) don't worry about the whole feeling like a failure type of thing. I have that too. It's normal for people who have gone through a lot like us. I just want to tell you about J.K. Rowling. she's the author of the harry potter books if you don't already know. well... she wasnt always a multi millionairess super successful bestselling author... when she was tlaking about her past, she admitted that she was "the biggest failure" she knew... and in her opinion its only because of how big of a failure she was or felt like she was that she reached such success later on...

In other words, you're not a zero. I'm not a zero. but it is possible for us to become heros.. you know? become an inspiration to others in IM through our success and give this industry a good name and reputation. Just keep at it man! Don't give up!

last thing, i promise: I once read that you shouldn't sweat the small things in life and even more importantly you gotta remember that they're all small things... everything is a small thing and not worth you fretting over, you know?

    hope this helps

sorry for the freakin' essay hahahaha

    good luck!

  • Keep Trying,

it's only too late for you if you truly believe it is. Look at my signature. THAT is the real truth.
I turned 18 yesterday, and I'm heading back to college to study something completely different! Now, most people my age are too scared to make a complete radical change, and the fear of falling behind overwhelms them. So they head off to University to study something they hate, and never really wanted to do.
They end up in a career for the rest of their lives, hating every day, and if they don't commit suicide first (sad truth) from being so overly depressed at where their lives have ended up, they are miserable until they die, where they think about all the things they wish they had done, and what they could have done differently.
Now,the fact that you have come on here, opened yourself up and have been honest with yourself about the fact that you honestly don't want to teach is the first step, and definitely one of the most difficult. This is a great sign. Another phrase other than the one in my signature that I think is useful, is from Zen Buddhism, and that is to keep your 'beginner's mind'. What this means is, don't act like you know everything, and that everything you know is set in stone.
We know very little as individuals, and you might find out that because you assumed you knew a lot of everything about one thing, you have little or no capacity to learn, or re-learn. Take a step back, and look at your knowledge of IM.

Start afresh. Take the lessons from your failings in the past in IM. EVERYONE fails before they succeed. It is the law of nature for us to do so. It helps us to strip away all the bull**** and find out if this is truly what we want. After all, would we work hard for something we didn't really want?

You can do whatever you believe you can. So put some stock in yourself, have some courage and some faith, and follow your dreams. No one can lead your life, except you. We can sit here all day and whisper comforting words into your ear, but only you can make that final decision to take a stand for yourself, grow up and get people to stop treating you like a child (it seems like you're still in that kid stage where your parents and teachers treat you like an adolescent).

You can change your life in a flash. That's the beauty of life; anything can happen!

I hope this post renews your hope and vigour for your dreams. If I had to summarise this post, I would say this:

If you're not where you want to be, then stop digging the hole you're in, climb out and go find somewhere you DO want to be. You have the power to make it happen.

Tons of great advice and encouragement. So I guess the only things I can add to what has already been said is this. When you find what you do best, and enjoy doing it, you will excel and succeed. Here may be a novel idea that might appeal to you. China is looking for English speaking teachers. Here may be your perfect chance to combine what you already know, visit/live in a far away place, and develop knowledge of companies that you would build a relationship with for importing for your IM niche. It may be a way to put into practice all you have already learned, and help point you toward tomorrow. Just a thought....

There is no age bar for success. Neither there is anything called "got late" in life. The time you wake up, is morning for you. At least you realized that you have to do something and you are taking initiatives. Tagore received Noble Prize at the age of 52. Would you say he had been unsuccessful till then?

Age is nothing more than a number. I am 25 years old as well, and guess what? I don't have a beautiful wife or house either. I thought the same way when I was 18 years old, and was convinced that I would have both of those things by this point in my life. It didn't work out that way though, and I am now focused on building my internet marketing business. You need to focus on the present and the future instead of the past. If you don't have a time machine, there is nothing you can do to change the past. So put that out of your mind. It also doesn't matter if your friends are traveling the world. Who really cares? By focusing on their apparent success, it will only cause you to focus on your failures. Do not allow yourself to fall into that trap.

The only good stuff is not made by any fast food chain, its in the habbits we adopt each day.

It's never too old nor too young to succeed at internet marketing.

I started IM while I was in university 7 years back. I'm 29 now and earning 6 figures a year with a full time team.

My one tip - Start building a list early. Was my only regret not starting on it earlier. Else I'll probably be at 7 figures now. =)

Good luck with your future endeavors!

I'm also 25! and I had that mind-set before... I know how you feel and I had that problem as well! In my case I was pressurized by my community. Most of my friends are younger than me and more successful in life. They have made tons of money! So yes I know how you feel. However, I decided to accept the feeling of defeat. I strive to do my best and becoming successful... Yes I admit it involves a lot of hard work but it will be worth it in the end. So don't give up!

I'm 25 and I've been in internet marketing for about 2 years now. I started off with affiliate marketing, created my first website, put content, put Clickbank products, did SEO, reached the first page of Google for a popular product and Voila! I was "making money online". It wasn't much - I did about $100/month for the whole year from that One product only. But you know what my problem was? I didn't rinse and repeat. I got lured in by all these other ways to make money online. I didn't stick to what worked for me initially. DON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE. If you've already had success with one thing, stick to it, grow it and grow with it(education is as important)

Yes, you can succeed, but it takes Patience, Persistence, Hard sometimes boring work, Belief in yourself and your business. If you're not making money online and don't have any other income streams, instead of letting that pull you down, use it as a reason why "you have to succeed". You obviously have more time on your hand, use that time to work on your business, not sulking and negative thinking... if others can do it, so can you!
