"Sleep is fore Broke People"

Hey warriors
I just saw a Video, where again a famouse rapper talked about work ethic on 4am and how he is not able to sleep more than 3 houers and Stuff. You cane watch it here :
http://youtu.be/4VoVG9mhhZU
So I was motivated and Inspired by the video, but I actualy have to disagree with what he says. Offcourse there are long houers but In my Opinion it is not just about how long you Work but much more Important how effective you Work. You could work 18 houers almost slpeeping away on you're desk ore Work 2 chunks of 3 houer Session with High Energy and High Focuss and have enough time fore other Projects plus get more things done and in a better quality. That is the type of houers I prefer....what do you Warriors Think. Old school Long houers ore New School effective houers ?

That was a bit too far. You function better with sleep.

    It's proven - It works.

Maybe you can work for a few extra hours, but honestly,
how long can you go on like that? Do you really expect to
be productive during those extra few hours that you could
be sleeping and preparing for the next day? Amount of hours
awake doesn't determine whether or not you'll be successful.

If you're making all of your income online and set your own hours then having a sleep schedule that allows for maximum awake time is probably going to help you out in your line of work. Mostly because "When your sleeping they're up doing something".
I'm in favor of "new school effective hours" as long as you have the time.

Check out polyphasic sleep cycles/schedules here:

I'd rather spend 4 hours sleeping then everyone else's 8 - more time to work = more time to earn.

This is a true story. 3 weeks ago, I was up all day, everyday, and only slept for 3 hours a day, maybe even less.

About a week ago, I started crashing. And, started falling asleep for more then 12 hours a day.

Today I awoke after 16 hours of sleep. This is... simply, not good. Or healthy.

In this case, I agree with everyone. Sleep is good for the mind and productivity. Overdoing is never good. It's the same as being a glutton. Overeating = bad for health. Overworking = fatigue and poor quality in workmanship.

You need sleep, its a natural bodily function, and anybody that tells you diffrent is lying. Besides when you don't sleep, yeah you are working more hours, but how effective are those hours. Your not at the top of your game when you don't sleep, period.

I disagree with the no sleep theory too - to some degree. We're all human and we're all different. I know people who are so bound up with energy that if they had one coffee they wouldn't sleep for a week. Some people have a lot of energy and only need 3-4 hours a night sleep. Others need more.

I find that I work best on 7 hours sleep. I notice a huge difference in my productivity and mental ability at 7 hours compared to any other amount. Less than 7 hours or more than 7 hours I just feel like crap. That's just me though.. you might need 10 hours... or 3.

I think the most important thing is to figure out how much sleep you need. If that's 3 hours, GREAT! If that's 10 hours, FINE! Personally I need 5-7 typically. I can function on less but not at 100%.

If I get around 5 for more than a few days I start feeling drained but once or twice a week I'm fine.

Sleeping is such a waste of time! Unfortunately I need a full 6 hours to even function the next day. I also cannot work 18 hours straight. I need a break every 3 hours at least to refocus on the task at hand. Later in the day I tend to take longer breaks up to an hour or more. That's if I'm putting in a full wake work day, 8am to 11pm.

3 hours of work while feeling well rested is better than 6 hours of work that is compromised by feeling sluggish, for me at least...

So in my opinion getting a good sleep actually saves you time. I set my alarm for 6 hours, even if it means I sleep until 2pm sometimes. But I do understand that my lifestyle isn't realistic for everyone.

I think everyone's just different. I function best on 4 - 6 hours sleep, any more than 6 and I'll have a headache all day, Less than 4 and I feel sluggish all day.
What I have done is cut out most of T.V shows and that gives me a lot more time to get my work done.
I would say to just listen to your body, if your tired rest, if you feel really good, then do what needs to get done.
I also find that taking small 5 minute breaks every couple hours helps me re-focus on my work.

I used to sleep 10 hours a day by the time I didn't have an aim in life. Now, I sleep for only 5-6 hours as I know that I have to get up and get that mark of excellence. So, I can't afford to waste time in sleeping. For a normal person, 6 hours of sleep is sufficient. Sleeping more than this is wasting the precious time. However, a quick afternoon nap can do wonders for you.

I usually sleep about 5-6 hours work 8 hours take a nap from 1/2- 2 hours and work another 2-4 hours.

If you're only getting 3 hours of sleep because of internet marketing you really need to find a more efficient system or another line of work.

Do people really take this seriously? He's trying to say he gets sleep but not TOO much because he believes that while he's sleeping someone else is progressing. I know exactly how he feels. I hate sleeping, so I try and sleep a maximum of 5/6 hours per night and I'm just as productive as anyone else, if not more.

At the end of the day everyone is different. Some people function better with more sleep and others function better with less. Don't let science/and 'facts' dictate how much sleep you SHOULD get. Know the limitations of your body and you'll be fine.

The point here is not that sleeping is for broke people, what he is trying to point here is management of time in sleep and in work. I would say that for those broke people, they tend to allocate more time for sleeping rather than working since they aren't interested for work, that they would rather sleep.
It's not that people should not sleep in order to succeed; people need to sleep for our body needs to relax and rest to recover from a day's work. Our body needs to regenerate and rejuvenate the muscles and the mind.

What would you rather be - rich or healthy?

I'd say I wouldn't mind being slightly poorer but healthier. Your body is more important than the amount of money in your wallet or the size of your car. What would you do with wealth if you have to spend it all on medical treatments because you ignored your health?

That said, I don't have a lot of respect who make sleep the sole basis of their existence. If you sleep for anything more than 7 hours a day, it is too much. 8 hours is okay, but anything beyond that is unacceptable.

Bow Wow hits on two very important points.

If you are not where you want to be (in terms of
your given success in any area) it is because you
have not put in enough hours of action

Most people look forward to sleep... They look
forwarding to resting, to being away "from work".

My view is that you will never reach any level of
true entrepreneurial success until you breathe,
think, and act for the progression of your
    business.

Yes, 6-8 hours of sleep is beneficial for a body
to fully recuperate, but I bet another 6-8 of
your waking hours are filled with food, friends,
laughter, chatter, or fulfilling addictions (whether
    lust or other).

How many hours do you REALLY work? The
question then, should be, do you EVEN need to
    sleep?

Or can you still push your hardware to
produce more great work before having to
    shut-down.

Ask yourself honestly, how much "direct-work" do
you invest in your business on a day to day basis?

Most marketers I see or hear about (warrior forum
posters being a large segment) would say less than
    2 hours.

If you put in more than 3 hours, everyday consistently,
of directed focused work, you obviously are striving
    to reach that next level.

I think the lack of sleep can make you broke. Why? Getting sick can be a huge drain on your finances. Most of your hard-earned money could just go to your hospital bills, doctor's fees and your medications. Sleep deprivation increases your risk for health conditions like heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.

I think with good time management and outsourcing, you don't have to deprive yourself of sleep. Remember, no amount of money can buy your health back if you get seriously ill.

I also desire to not sleep in my life - but only because I want to live it to the fullest (which, of course, includes abundance of money) - but to deny myself of sleep is equal to shooting myself in the foot - because if the body is tired there is no point in continuing with what I am doing - I must have not done it effectively enough. And trying harder is not the solution.

If the energy is fully aligned you don't need sleep, that is correct. And most likely if the energy is aligned you will also experience great wealth. It all sort of ties together, doesn't it? In the end it's about energy.

I watched this video, and although I admire the drive, I also note the fear of losing.

Sleep is essential, and if you don't get it, it will get you in the long run in the form of sickness.

You have to eat to fuel your body, and then you have to exercise to tone the body.
The mind needs rest to function optimally.

If you are tired, you operate much the same as a drunk person. In fact, statistics reveal that lack of sleep can render your physical mechanics into a drunk-like state.

There's nothing wrong with sleep, and if you have to wake up in fear that someone else is going to overtake you, then man, you are one sad human.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[4353497].message }}
  • As other people have stated, sleep is ESSENTIAL. People who act all big and tough and claim they sleep very little and are better because of it, are more than likely causing large amounts of stress and harm to their bodies.
You should get 6-8 hours of sleep every night. Sleep allows your body to repair itself, process certain functions, and essentially allows you to 'be refreshed' for the following day. Anyone lacking this will be in trouble sooner or later. Trust me on this, as I've done the long sleep habit, and also gone through periods where I haven't gone to bed until 2-3am and woken up at 7am. It's not good.

Sleeping is a physical and mental need. It allows your brain to organize itself throughout the day. Some people may need only 15 mins. of power nap a day, some may need 4 hours of sleep, some may even need 11 hours.

Going through the day like a Zombie with 2 hours of sleep while only being productive (and clumsy) throughout the 1/8 of day is foolish. It may work if your day consists of mundane tedious work.

But I rather get 10 hours of sleep a day and be "in the zone" throughout the my whole day than getting 2 hours of sleep but feeling tired and scattered for the whole day.

You might feel creative with little hours of sleep drifting in a fantasy zone, but try being a engineering managing complex projects, building intensive/sophisticated system, etc -- that requires good concentration. It's difficult to go through that on 3 hours of sleep a day.
