Do You Think That In Order For Someone To Be Successful In Internet Marketing One Has To be Techie?

I just wanted to start a thread and see what peoples view are about being an Internet Marketer. I have not been successful but I am really close and I am not the most teckie or computer person. I have basic knowledge but that is it.

What about you? I would like to see some successful internet marketers who aren't computer nerds add some insight to us other non teckies..

I think it is all about learning what you need to learn and willing to give up everything to get what you want. I have given up literally everything, moved home and am on my way. I am at the moment experiencing anxiety and panic attacks with all the major changes in my life but even that does not stop me

Probably not... and it can probably either hurt or help.

I've been making a living online for several years - and I'm the least techie person I know.

You learn the tech stuff as you need to - and the parts you need to work online aren't all that difficult to pick up. For the big glitches - you find someone who is a techie to help you out.

It actually doesn't take much to be considered a 'difficult woman' -
that's why there are so many of us.

Well stated. That is exactly how I see how it. Outsource the things that you don't know or don't have the time to learn

Most people who come into this business do not realize the technical side of it. I didn't. Actually, there's no getting around having to learn some of it. It's called (on-the-job-training).

Awesome, I totally agree. The only difference is that you are your own boss and your own trainer

You can always hire someone to do the techie stuff for you. However, it helps when you know a little bit about the job you want accomplished so as not to get conned into paying a lot of money for something that should be relatively cheap.

Not really, i think you need to know a little bit about a lot. Just enough to the point where you know if you hire someone that your not getting screwed. And it depends on what you mean by techie, like knowing html, or what the hell is a backlink and do it manually. You need to know what's going on but not neccesarly be an expert.

I don't think so. I think it helps though. I consider myself somewhat of a technical person - I know basic html, CSS, C++, and PHP. Those skills haven't been very useful in IM. It's more usefull to know how to configure wordpress and create graphics. I think it's only really necessary to know some basic technical skills like installing wordpress and using backlinking software.

I think what's more important is knowing how to sell and how to do market and keyword research.

In Fact, you don't need to be a tech guy to be successful in INTERNET marketing.
but when it comes to work with some technical stuff, you can save a lot of time as well as money if you have strong technical skill, however you can ask for help or hire people to do it for you.

It will be cheaper better if you know a bit, but outsourcing now is easier and cheaper as ever. So being a techie is not really the most important part. That way, you can just do what you do best. Focus on that and life wil be easier.
Remember, we Internet marketers are NOT Jacks-of-all-trades.

It would help a little if you are a techie on the other hand it might hurt you a bit (in financial terms) if you are not a techie. reason being: if you are not a techie or in other words, someone who is literally a computer illiterate then you might end up being ripped in the starting days and that's gonna hurt you (financially).

Techies will skip these hurdles and will be on the safe side.

Definitely not, but of course it helps in the beginning if you don't have to do all the "dirty work" yourself. When you have the budget, you can have other people do all the work!

No I'm very stupid at techie. If I have troubles with techie I'll just chat with the support and done But thanks to IM I know a little bit about techie.
You're just need a little bit of techie, but it's not the success factor

Not at all. But as others have said, it helps. Just basic cook-book skills such as uploading via ftp or creating simple squeeze pages and sales pages will save you a ton of cash. Especially when you're just getting started and don't have many resources.

In the end, marketing skills are what make you a better marketer. Tech skills just help you implement your marketing.

God no. It's a minor miracle each morning when I'm able to even start my mac up. I don't know crap about coding, hardware, software, programming etc. I don't even know how to make a WP site, and that's not stopped me from making well into six figures per year.
