What's Wrong With Our Society?

Today, I read a very disturbing article that started me thinking about what's wrong with our society ...

What is Wrong With Our Society?

Apparently, a young boy just three years old, has been sold for the purpose of sex and for the price of a meth fix according this article. It is reported that, having endured horrific torture, the boy is now in hospital in a critical condition, fighting for his life.

So I'm interested in your views. What do you think that we, as a society, can do to address matters such as this?

Will

You would think that after thousands of years, mankind would have evolved a bit more, eh? But nope, still conflicts, wars, crimes, etc.

Just hope that little boy ends up with a loving family.

Very true, we should be well past war, and conflicts.

Personally I think we should get some hard laws back. And I am talking about REALLY HARD laws. I'll leave it that way, otherwise people will call me crazy.

If you're a student of history, things are actually much better than in the past. Humanity is still a "teenager" in many ways, but we've finally gotten out of the sandbox. I've been reading some of the early American biographies of slaves (as background research for a short story) -- stories of children being sold out of their mothers' arms are heartwrenching.

It was not unusual in earlier times to sell children for sex -- in all societies. Many of them would be sold to brothels (boys and girls) and many died from abuse at such places. There were special "houses" that catered to those who liked to be very rough with their victims.

Take a look at the laws on the books sometime and realize that ALL of those were put into effect because someone did something horrible and society said "enough." And 400 years ago, the father selling the little boy would NOT be against any laws.

I agree with the need for "hard" laws. Sadly, with all the political correctness and civil liberties, many of the people who end up in jail get better treatment than many middle income people. What incentive is there to stay out of jail when you can get 3 hot meals, a roof over your head and get free medical, free TV, free internet, free education to do nothing but to sit in a 10X10 cell? With unemployment rampant, i predict we will see more crimes committed just for those benefits.
SSI disability is out of hand, SSI is for those who have not worked enough to qualify for social security. The younger generation with no work ethic has figured out how to play mentally unstable in order to qualify for this, under mental disability. And the obesity in America accounts for a high percentage of SSI in the mid 20's from diabetes. Why work when you can get a government hand out for doing nothing, SSI, welfare, foodstamps, they don't care that they are pushing the government so deep in debt, soon it won't be there for them to collect.
If we made harder Laws, gave them less incentive to go to jail and made it harded to get handouts, made them turn to churches or other social services offered through good samaritan foundations instead of the government, they might learn some of the ethics, pride in a job well done and spiritualism, they are lacking in their raising. In doing so they might learn to place a value of themselves and their children and we might not see so much that is wrong with society today, such as the girl who shot her Father with a bow and arrow because he took her cell phone away.... really? Google it, I don't have enugh posts to link it sorry.

This is such a sad story, it almost left me speechless.

When I see such stories, I dont know how to react: your question is really thought-provoking, but I cant point what s wrong with the society (is it individualism? the economy? drugs?). I guess in the end its up to us to treat the people around us with love and care, if we all do maybe one day we will be able to wake up without having to read one of these terrible headlines.

    Thanks and all the best,

    Bertrand.

The first thing we can do is to do exactly what you did - share the story. We need everyone to know about the horrors that are going on in our world.

I agree with making people aware of things that we far too often have no idea about.

Pleading ignorance seems to be the order of the day for many: 'if it does not affect me or my loved ones directly, it is not my business'. Maybe if we are seeing and hearing about these things daily, society might realise that there is something terribly wrong and hopefully decide to take a stand to turn things around.

I cannot imagine that anyone in their right mind would subject anyone, let alone a small child to such abuse. Some people should not be allowed to walk the streets of society with their warped perception of what is right and wrong.

I can only pray that that little boy will receive counselling, therapy & be blessed with a loving home which will shield him from such horrors in the future.

as others have pointed out, such evil has always existed in our world, as we as a species are still primitive we will never be free of it, it's baked into our DNA. Just generally with all the new fangled lights it gets pushed to the dark cracks unless it makes the evening news.

That said things are markedly better in many ways than in the past. When is the last time you saw someone impaled on your way into the city? stoned to death for going against a parents wishes? ..or even died in a "civilized" duel for ones honor, or rotting on the street from some plague/hunger etc. Like in that monty python skit "bring out your dead.. but I'm not dead yet! *thump* "

A better world is something to strive for. Just that betterness never reaches people when they are strung out on meth. Take a look at the "faces of meth" sometime on how far that particular drug will suck the life out you.

With the corruption of humanity comes distressing news as this.

It's a wicked (and I mean wicked in the true sense of the word) scenario and a desperately pathetic parent.

These things are very disturbing to say the least, and I think the best solution is for good people to remain good people, and therefore from the light of those who shine the dark will eventually die.

We may never get rid of such despicable acts, but we can continue creating a better world by loving our kids, wives, husbands, friends, neighbors...

This, I believe, is the core of the progressive societies of the world. The ones who love their children and this then is passed on from generation to generation.

As soon as we take hate, cruelty, crime, abuse, war, insanity, greed, disrespect...out of music, movies, books, radio, conversation, social media, schools...the sooner we get to rid such degeneration from our world.

The solution is to address the root of problems instead of the symptoms. All we do in society is wait for something bad to happen and then try to scramble and put a band-aid on it.

Nowadays, people tends to return to their animalistic side, as what we have read from papers, magazines and saw on TV, they became more and more cruel to their fellow humans as well as to the animals. Probably, I can mention some examples can be seen in youtube, wherein people are torturing other people and animals, and you can see in their face that they are in excruciating pain but the "sadistic" just keeps on smiling in what they are doing.

I totally support the idea of imposing "Hard Laws" on these kinds of people, since they need to be taught on how painful it is that they are doing. People, who are caught on the act, should punish severely to make them realize that what they are doing is very painful. Laws that restricts to no one, everyone are equal to the punishment they would received.

There are two types of law. Objective Law and Subjective Law.

Objective Law is ten commandments type stuff; don't murder, don't steal, etc. Black and white basic law.

Subjective Law is different. It is the your are not allowed to read this book law, you are not allowed to ingest this substance, you can't buy liquor on Sunday, and so on. Laws that are purely subjective.

When you mix the two laws you then have Corrupt Law. We need to build a society that is purely based on objective law only. The Constitution was a great start but it is missing something.

When we have a society built with only objective laws, we won't have the evil and disgusting problems that we now see on a daily basis.

There has never been more evil now than in the time past, o.k? As long as there is selfishness and greed as human nature evil will continue to be in existence until the redemption of all things. However, if we must change our society for good, then we must first change ourselves. If you and I can change within us, then where is the evil without?

I think that the society has been like the way it is from time in memorial. The difference between now and then is that we have more people on the planet than then.

Competition for Resources has driven communities into wars, crime, and people doing unimaginable things to their fellow human beings.

But if you are keen enough, it is resources they are after which are scarcer by the day.

Unless we figure out a way to produce enough for everybody and to maintain a sustainable population growth, then we are in for more trouble.

I think it's not good to generalize the question as to what is happening on our society. The person involve is about a woman though a part of our society, she isn't a good representation of the society as a whole. There are a lot of people doing good deeds and I think those are enough to represent our society. Just my opinion though. I do hope that the boy should have a good life after being in the hospital.

I just read that article and now feel sick to my stomach.

How anyone could do anything like that to another human being, let alone a 3 year old boy is beyond me.

A good start would be making parents obtain licenses before allowing them to raise a child. Make it mandatory for the primary care giver to sit down in a 30 minute interview and perform background checks on their criminal history, Have them undergo drug tests etc either a week or so before giving birth or immediately thereafter.

And as for the men involved in this incident.... Anyone who treats a child in such a way should forfeit any right to life.

Even the people in this forum use softer language and more "upstanding" terms to express their distaste for this monstrosity. I, on the other hand, will not.

This is an outrage, and both the seller of the child and the abusers deserve to be tortured and maimed for a prolonged period of time, until death finally sweeps over them. There's a reason I don't watch the news or read a newspaper, as it only serves to remind me that loathsome filth like these people exist somewhere in the world.

Have you seen "Law Abiding Citizen"? If you haven't, then you should, if only to give you an idea of how every single one of this child's tormentors deserves to suffer and die. Brutally, horribly, and with the news of it spread far and wide to show that THIS is the punishment for committing such a travesty.

If nothing else, people like this deserve a swift hatchet to the brain.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that this little boy will one day be in the arms of a loving, caring, and understanding family, and that all of the criminals responsible for what he went through rot in Hell for all eternity.

A minor point of solace here is that males tend to get over rape much more easily than females, as has been explained to me from a psychiatrist I personally know. Boys more often are able to "let things go" and realize that it wasn't their fault. The victim, whether he be an adult or child, often doesn't feel like they had something taken from them, as most females tend to do, which is why many female rape victims participate in several years of therapy just to "let go".

Here's another interesting study. Most female rape victims, if they could do ONE thing to their attackers, it would be to castrate them... as for males... death is a much more common and satisfying option, one which I truly agree upon.

Events like these tend to make my blood boil, and make me deeply pine for something of a vigilante to help properly execute scum like this.

Where's the Punisher when you need him?

I definitely agree with you on this one. The movie "Law Abiding Citizen" really presents how "inhuman" the world becomes and that one person has use his influence and wealth to bring those who deserve to be punished. Crowe's character is what we need because I really believe that there are people in this world, especially those who occupies a position in the government, that even commits a crime, there are no courts for them. And that the solution is to bring that justice to their own hands.

How could such people do such things to his fellow people? Is money worth the life and the dignity of other people? In my own belief, I would rather want the present society to re-introduce what our fore fathers have been imposing that anyone who would do something negative to other people, will be dealt with severe punishment to make them learn that what they did was not acceptable to the society.

Are there any Punisher or Batman in this world anymore?

I think Charles Darwin was right while say that the animals that cannot fit in the ecosystem cannot survive, they will die. And I think its time to root out the people who do not show humanity towards others. Our laws should be tightened to protect the rights of every individual and the law enforcers should do their jobs effectively.

This world is dependent on 2 things-- your personal action, and how it can affect the lives of others around you. This is how you create change in the world. You can offset the evils of this world by helping others.

For example, when the boy grows up, he will need special guidance so that he grows up well and moves on from the traumatic experience.

It takes a whole village to raise one boy, tis a true saying.

Do your part, be kind, and help everyone out! That way, the world gets better, and you get better, and then you can help even more people! Help out others warriors on WF! Don't get into petty arguments with other warriors.
