Shake the haters and naysayers off like dust

I just received an e-mail from Gabor Olah (not sure if he posts here or not) but it was just a reminder of how hungry I am to make a living online. Basically it said something like this (out of respect, I won't copy and paste the e-mail here):

When your mom, dad, friends, spouse, and neighbor tells you that you CAN'T, WON'T, or SHAN'T make a living online, what do you do?

His particular answer was:

"Just smile politely and back away".

Pretty good stuff.

My point is this: Never let anyone tell you you CAN'T do something. Better yet, don't tell yourself you CAN'T do something. If you want it bad enough, it's yours. Go get it.

  • I'm right there with you. You just can't afford to allow your mind to be polluted by negative people. Sadly, it is because they don't want to see you succeed.

Nice dude.... because especially in the online world of making money, many, many people close to you will challenge you, and tell you to "Get a real job..." Well, they arent saying that anymore

I totally agree with this post. People only put others down to make themselves feel better. Never fall for it.

    It's pretty much like saying:

I want you to work 5x harder for less money, so I can feel better about my self =(

When someone tries to burst your ambition bubble, especially friends, family and people you trust, you've got to do whatever it takes to protect it. One of your first responses is NOT to take it personally. That's easier said than done sometimes.

Recognize that envy, jealousy, selfishness, inferiority complexes and similar motives are generally driving these discouraging comments. They are a greater reflexion of the shortcomings of these haters and naysayers than they are of you and your goals.

You can actually avoid such uncomfortable situations by simply keeping your plans to yourself and pursuing them as quietly as possible.

Agreed! It's sometimes difficult to deal with negative people, especially when you're a little down and lack the confidence to go after your dreams.

The most important thing to do is to protect your dreams from those haters and naysayers, by not taking it personally, but rather view it as the demonstration of their own fears, limitations and lack of self-confidence.

One thing to realize is that these people are not necessarily bad or wanting to hurt you, but they fear Change (just like most people). If YOU change, it puts them out of their comfort zone. It's so much easier to hide yourself from the reality of your life, than to actually do something about it.

One of the best techniques I have found to "destroy" the impact these people had on my thinking was to Condition and program my own beliefs with the help of audios, music, movies, books...
You can find all the inspiration you want on the internet, you just have to do it on a regular basis so it begins to touch your subconscious.

The next step is to create or get involved in a Mastermind team, or more simply a community of like-minded people who understand and support each other. Just like here, guys!

      To your dreams!

Great reminder - my hubby just shakes his head when I'm sitting here trying to build my niche sites. He'll soon change his attitude when I meet my 2009 goals and he benefits from the income

In the earlier days of my IM journey, i always heard that i must fail many times before succeeded. I didn't believe it until i face it my self. It's true the faster i fail the sooner i get something back. There are just too many roads that i have to try. They do want to see us success, but they don't want to see those many times we falled on the way to get there.

i've found its best not to tell ppl my plans or dreams. Maybe I'll mention something i've already achieved and let them wonder how I "got so lucky" or something like that.

Heh, only some close friends of mine know my intentions. I haven't even told my family yet.

It's especially hard when you have more "passion" for IM than you have income coming in !!! Even your bank account can be a road block so sometimes I just move on and figure out where I will get the income to pay for it later! Of course, only after careful consideration and making sure the "moving on" will be an investment that makes money...!

Just say: "Well I appreciate that you care that much about me." Then off you go to cash another big juicy cheque.

Hey, I just caught The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith at HBO.

There was a scene in the basketball court where Will told his son, "If you want something then go get it, people tell you that you can't do something because they are afraid to do it."

Well, I don't remember the exact phrase but the essence is people will pull you down because they themselves fear success.

So turn a deaf ear and just do your thing.

I absolutely agree. I just can't have other people dictate what's best for me. I am doing what my heart desires and that's all that matters. Besides most criticisms I get are mostly baseless..

Exactly. At times I feel that I am surrounded by people with such negative attitudes - I would be totally depressed if I actually paid any attention to them. The best thing that I did was learn to let it go over my head and stay in my focussed zone.
