Are your habits helping or hurting you?

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am completely at your command.

Half of the things you do might just as well turn over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed - you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lesson I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men; and alas, of all failures as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a man.
You may run me for profit or run me for ruin - it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Who am I?
I am habit!

Wonderful powerful post! It has been often mentioned here about having a positive attitude and frame of mind. You can from force of habit devalue yourself, your drive, and your ideas. When trained, habit can also drive you onward as pointed out. This really ties it all together and drives the idea home. Thanks for posting this inspiration!

Habit shapes our character, attitude and behavior. Habit grows from environment and it changes overtime with learning that happens knowingly or unknowingly. It is important to consider peer feedback into account to identify issues with our habits. It helps in rectifying the habitual deformities.

This is a wonderful post you have there; a person's habit is definitely what shapes us at present. Our attitude and characters is what our habit will make us. Our habits may or may not be agreeable to other people, but definitely this is how we are shaped and molded as a person and as a human being to other people. Although I would have to agree that there are habits of our life that, in some cases, we wanted that habit to be change or continued. Whether its a positive or negative habits, it will surely develop us into a being of what we are now and who we are now.

Some are helping me some are hurting. I like to do a monthly habit checkup where I write down everything that I do for that day. That way I can see my habits.

    ...at least my conscious habits.

Anything is bad when taken out of moderation.

Therefore, any habbit is a bad habbit.

    In my opinion at least.

"I am completely at your command."
That's in theory true, but in practice it can be exceedingly difficult
    to manage a habit.

Honestly, I'd have to say that my habits help me for the most part. There are times when they are detrimental to my efficiency, but overall, they are working great for me.

    Excellent post here

It reminds me of checking out my habits in life....Need to make sure that it's helping and not hurting...it's pushing me forward and not hindering...

Really true, sometimes, we missed to see that we are being badly dominated by our wrong habits or doing. All the way, we think, they're just okay.

Thanks for sharing this post...Am sure, this would be a great wake up call to everyone who'll be reading this thread
