Ever just not been able to sit down and work?

by Matt Ward 16 replies
I find that I keep getting into slumps where I can't get myself to sit there and actually accomplish something, which usually tends to be article writing. I have been sitting here for 5 hours and have accomplished absolutely nothing constructive. I keep a list of things "to do" and know what I should be doing, but even that isn't working... I'm just wasting time.

Does anyone else ever experience this? What do you do in this type of situation?

    Hi.

The situation might not be as big a deal as you think it is.

This approach you probably haven't been exposed too.

Think about this. The situation happens to all things of this Mother Nature, at some period of activity or another. There's a rest period, a dull, a sleep so to speak. Just like a time when writing doesn't happen. This is a universal phenomenon.

The 'Yellowstone National Park' Super Volcano erupts approximately every 600 thousand years (we're overdue), The sun sleeps between solar flare-ups for approximately 11 years. The cicada insect appears approximately every 13 years, a women's body sleeps, so as to have menstrual cycles approximately every 30 days, and writers don't write when nature is telling them to move their attention elsewhere.

Of course, some individuals can write most anytime they want, as much as they want, which has nothing to do with them having the experience of the content they're writing about.

    Here's An Unknown Secret:

The Confidence Gained Or Achieved In One Discipline, Is Transferable To Any Other.

Make sure you understand the concept, because it reflects the condition that a persons inability to generate that already experienced feeling of confidence; is directly related to that person's ability to apply that same confidence ,'At Will', towards any other given discipline.

Simply put, it's all about knowing your feelings, the conditions that enable them, and the conditions that stimulate them. This is about your ability to generate Confidence.

Demonstrations of confidence levels while engaged in a given activity, reflect a lack of stress and or dis-allowance of distraction. Can you put yourself in a relaxed stress-less condition? Yes you can!

    Consider this sit-down-and-work-when-you-want recipe:

    1. Go do something you definitely know how to do, and take care to note exactly how you physically feel at the time you're engaged in the activity.
    2. Sit down while doing nothing, and slowly recreate that same feeling you had when you performed the activity.
    3. Go to any other activity while carrying along that transferable feeling and perform being careful to maintain that sense of feeling.

Nature doesn't care about your personal likes, dislikes, or mood swings, and will always look to sympathetically harmonize with itself. We as humans can mimic this feature if we so choose, and partake of its residual benefit attributes.

    Obstacles

Any obstacles in the execution of this exercise will be due to an individual personal allowance of distracting influences, whether tangible, psychic, or emotional. This simply means, that the less you have your personal act together, the more distracting influences you will take notice of, and thereby allow yourself more stress.

Sit down, take a deep breath, smile, and relax. Shut up and get out of your own way, and 'FEEL' the confidence of writing; just like you feel confident when you're doing something you know how to do.........

    The Habit Key

Now consider this. The art of writing is simply concerned with the act of writing. As you create the habit of just writing anything without being concerned about structure, content sequence or any other protocol, you will be creating your own type of clay, which you can later mold, shape, and detail. The key here is to just create the habit of writing.

A funny thing happens when an individual is left to their own devices in such circumstance. A person begins to believe that they can write. Just like a little baby banging on piano keys today, starts to bang out things that sound like they make sense. Works the same way with grown-ups.
The Key Here Is To Generate A Likable Habit Of Doing. Of Writing.... Go figure!
    . Go figure!

    Hope this helps - Tom

Yes I feel the same thing. However I have a solution

When I do write articles (for article directories), I normally go crazy and try to finish a 500 word article in 10 minutes max WITHOUT taking a break.

Trust me, this way you can get everything done and once the article is fully written, it takes only 2-3 minutes to proof read it.

    Hope this helps!

I have lots of experience with this. For me, I go do something else that my mind wants to do. Then when my mind wants to work i go sit down and work. I find this helps my mind stay in harmony with my body, which keeps me happy. Sitting there pretending like your in a working mood is a waste of time. Even if you do accomplish something, it's likely to be of lower quality then if your mind was in the mood.

If I was to 'do something else that my mind wants to do', I'd always be out jet-skiing and never get anything done.

It sounds like some success motivation mindset listening is necessary to help with this problem. There's sh*tloads on youtube.

Yes many times that is why it is important to plan and ask guidance from God before making anything.

        Hi Mattward,

        Try this:

Put your headphones on, turn off the TV (if its on) or escape distractions.

        Try again..

        works for me.

If this isnt really your issue (but please try it), then outsource the article writing, I get the feeling its basially something you dont like too much, and the topic is boring. I bet there are some internet marketing activities you love doing, and could easily spend 18 hours a day at, so if you can afford it, outsource the articles and dont let it drain you.

With today's outsourcing options, that's a GREAT idea. Free up that time, do what your mind wants!

That would work if your distractions are external.

It is also possible for people to have internal distractions.

Either way it still boils down to the same thing. You can not focus on A if your mind can't stop thinking about B. Keep in mind, B can be multiple things in this scenario.

good point.. if it's just simply a case of getting the old inertia wheel spinning again, the removal of external distractions, and some decent music works quite well for me.

Have i eveer had that suituation . yes many times

Almost everyone i know i spent time and not achieve anything constructive at the end of the day

So what is the way out of this ? My big question is what were you doing in those 5 hrs . were u cahtting on facebook , chatting on skype , checking your emails and following links of other people and responding to everyone else agenda , were seeing people who jump on you without let you know that they are coming ,did u receive an important call while you are suppose to be working ?

You can't let anything distract you. turn off your skype ,facebook , phone and focus on the task at hand

Another question i would ask is :Are you afraid of writing articles ? Do hate doing it ? If you do , maybe tht is why you try so hard to avoid it and doing everything but the things that would make you money

Recognise article writing is easy . Just break down into small paragraph and have a particle writing template . Alternatively, you can outsource it and let other write the articles fpr you

    Cheers

    Femi

I have this all the time. You need to find something you enjoy writing about. Once you start writing your interest will quickly take over and you won't be able to stop.

Everyone has experience that. And sadly, most if not all of us are still experiencing that same thing. What I do is I surround myself with things that must be done ASAP and people who are doing working. With those kind of people around you, you too will have the urge to work at their phase.
