Steve Jobs and His GOLDMINE Mentality for Success

In lieu of Steve Jobs stepping down as CEO of Apple I wanted to start a thread in this particular forum to share a certain mentality of his that has struck an absolute goldmine in his fascinating experience as perhaps the greatest CEO stint we will ever witness in our entire lifetime.

Hearing his response from this Youtube interview video has really impacted me on a personal and professional level.

Side Note: I think everyone needs to pay CLOSE attention to everything he has to say whenever he speaks. He's a genius with his words (among several other obvious traits).

Here's the video:

(Must admit I'm still pretty new to this forum and don't want to break any rules by posting video.. if this is not allowed please tell me immediately and I will gladly edit! If you feel more comfortable searching for it yourself go to youtube and type "Steve Jobs and Bill Gates Together: Part 4") He answers around 2:00

If you're anything like me, I'm sure you've looked to the past with at least a small degree of regret, whether in business or overall life decisions. I sure have (hindsight is 20/20)... and unfortunately the thoughts, regardless of how insignificant they are here and NOW, still come back from time to time.

In an interview on stage alongside Bill Gates, Steve is asked the question:

"Was there something you regret or might have done differently after you first left Apple that you could have done that would have led to a much bigger market share for the Mac?"

First he acknowledges that there are several things he could have done better at Apple the first time, and other wrongdoings after leaving that he could have done otherwise... but it "really doesn't matter. You have to let go of that stuff, and we are where we are."

To expand upon his answer he explains that when he returned to Apple he gave the company's museum (collection of their previous products and records) to Stanford to "clear the cobwebs" and start looking forward to tomorrow.

"You can't look back and wish this and wish that because it doesn't matter. LET'S GO AND INVENT TOMORROW rather than worrying about what happened yesterday."

If you notice his second run at Apple, he EXPLODED the company by utilizing this philosophy... and he did exactly this... he INVENTED TOMORROW! The ipod and iTunes revolutionized music, his computers became MUCH better than PCs (opinion), he created dozens of patents, the iPhone is still untouchable from a competitive standpoint, and his own vision created the tablet computer - which endured much criticism before its overwhelming success!

He has paved the way as arguably the greatest technological innovator of all time.

I believe it is safe to say this mentality is responsible for making Apple the most valuable technology company in existence (and among one of the TOP valued companies the world has ever witnessed).

So, this really hit home with me because him and Apple are living proof that this is the ultimate mentality to practice... and the best part is it can be implemented in all aspects of life.

We are where we are, forget the past, clear the cobwebs, and look forward to creating the future! Frankly, that's all we can do! So next time, my fellow Warriors, you feel regretful about a poor decision you've made or something you could have done better in the past... remember it is the FUTURE that we still have the ability to make a positive difference in our lives and the lives of others.

Thank you for reading and I hope you find this as valuable as I have!

Much love,

-JG

You are right. Emulating Steve Jobs can do much to contribute to your success.

It can be hard to forget the past-especially when certain decisions you made were detrimental to you and those around you. But, it is up to us to improve the future-and the best mindset to have when we look back at the past is ---to learn from it.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

This is some pretty powerful stuff. It really helps to see inside the mind of these two TITANS. If you want to be successful, you are going to have a much better chance if you model the mindset of the ultra successful. I found it really helpful to hear their viewpoint on moving forward and thinking about the future.I am going to be making a big investment in a business I am launching and it is empowering to hear how these guys think about failure. IF you fail...whatever...just keep moving forward and you will be successful. Great post.

There is only one thing that burned in my mind
It's what steve said more or less like this "no matter how smart you are, you will need a great team to achieve success"

Could not agree with you more. There's no way these two would have achieved their level of success without being fantastic leaders, mentors, and visionaries for their hardworking and faithful teams.

I am sure if you watched all the videos (not saying it's a must lol but recommended if it fits your schedule), you would pick up a ton more than just one main point. I enjoyed all of them, but figured out of all the great advice/wisdom of all videos, this was perhaps the most relevant to share (in my mind).

There is no doubt I could've done a ton of things much better in the past... I know you guys can relate! But why dwell on it when we all have so much opportunity ahead? I'm incredibly happy that a lot of you found this valuable as well

I really admire Steve Jobs for his bold and solid actions that led to the greatness of Apple today. He transformed the technological world and it's very hard to imagine our day to day lives without him. I also watched his speech at Stanford and almost everyday I am reminded of it, very powerful message.

Yes, he reiterates what is in the age old classic, "Think and Grow Rich," when it goes into masterminding...knowing your own weaknesses and filling them in with people who have those strengths. Napoleon Hill was wise to this, as well.

          Awesome!

Thank you for sharing this video. I totally agree with what Steve said about letting go of the past, clearing the cobwebs, and looking (and working) toward tomorrow.

A new item on my to-do list for the weekend is to watch the rest of the videos. We can certainly learn a lot from those such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates on how to achieve success.

Thanks for sharing the video. What I sense is Steve Job's enthusiasm and excitement about his company. Also, both speak with great knowledge about their products. They certainly have the qualities of CEOs.
