Why is the law of attraction missing this most vital info?

Attraction normally means- Attr + ACTION= Attraction. The secret did not mention the action part...You can not get anything in life unless you act. What do you guys feel?

This is of course very true.

The Secret actually did mention it, although briefly, when Joe Vitale is talking about how the universe likes speed. He mentions the importance to act quickly at that point. Also James Ray does mention about going three for three with your thoughts, feelings and actions.

There are probably more examples, but I know what you mean, there wasn't enough emphasis on the essential action taking part of the law of attraction.

Certainly the more action I take, the more results I get. If I make the action focussed and intelligent, the results I get are even better. Maybe they should make a second secret focussing on this important point alone.

    Thanks Ryan.

Since "The Secret" there have actually been a lot of books out that talk about the missing link to the Law of Attraction. Yes, I believe Joe Vitale has one and there are other authors that I can't think of at the moment.

Yes, you have to take action to practice the Law of Attraction, but you don't necessarily have to take action as in work per se. At least not in the things I've attracted.

I mostly work diligently on practicing techniques laid out in the video and other techniques and eventually things start to appear. This has happened on occasion. Now, only if I could manifest things all the time for every thing I want in my life.

'Think' to receive appeals to the lazy.
    'Act' to receive
    does not.

The Secret made a fortune because it was marketed to the lazy. It's no surprise, and certainly no accident, that they left out action. They had to.

    'The Secret' is entertainment.

You've probably read the work I'm about to recommend, but in case you haven't, or in case you'd like to look a bit deeper, take ANOTHER look (or 'first' look) at Think And Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill.

THAT is the BEST work ever written that encapsulates the principles of business and personal success that have been repackaged as 'Law Of Attraction' by various carnival barkers in recent years.

In it, you'll find all the MOST PRACTICAL aspects of so-called 'Law Of Attraction,' plus you'll find REALITY - that of WORK, and EFFORT, and APPLICATION.

As an example of its practicality (surrounded by weaker 'Law Of Attraction' works), a friend recently sought my advice regarding 'WHAT TO DO NEXT' in his application of The Secret. I suggested that he'd been spending too much time in the nonsensical misapplication of the concept of 'attraction', believing that he could MANIPULATE THE UNIVERSE INTO MOTION while sitting there in his chair engaged in rigorous thought.

I explained to him the misinterpretation - a COMMON misinterpretation being criminally perpetuated among LOA enthusiasts and sellers - and that the only thing that is set in motion by his thoughts (in the physical universe) IS SUPPOSED TO BE HIS OWN HAIRY REAR END LIFTED OUT OF HIS LA-Z-BOY RECLINER AND OUT ONTO THE STREETS TO TAKE MASSIVE ACTION. His response to me was that such was NOT what he's gotten from studying 'The Secret'.

I asked him if he'd ever read Think And Grow Rich. After a long, loud, painful 'OF COURSE I HAVE SO DON'T BOTHER ME WITH KINDERGARTEN STUFF LIKE THAT' sigh, I asked him if he realized that T&GR is the most widely circulated, FORTUNE-MAKING, LAW OF ATTRACTION-BASED publication in the history of the world. Of course, he didn't know that.

I pointed out that if he REALLY knew the book so well, he would know that the next step after thinking things through to a clear vision is to go out into the world under the momentum of unrelenting FAITH and TAKE MASSIVE ACTION.

As expected, he indicated to me that he sensed as much, but enjoyed a certain 'comfort zone' under the delusion that he could simply THINK AND DO NOTHING AND GROW RICH, the impression of which he says he got from The Secret.

Immediately, I sent him a copy of T&GR, pointed out the 13 Principles, their ORDER, and he's now to work - EVERYTHING is starting to change for him, and he has gotten out of the rut he'd snuggled into. Now he's REALLY working in alignment with the Laws Of Success.

Compared to Think And Grow Rich, the Secret is a joke.

I've never read The Secret but the hype around it is what piqued my interest in the LOA. From many of the things that I read or listened to, Joe Vitale's course included, is that you need to take action to achieve what you want in life.

I think the other part of the equation that has been glossed over is the "letting go of what you want". Many people, I include myself in here as I am just as guilty, want things now. Even though I'm taking action on what I want to accomplish if it doesn't happen "now" or within the timeline I set, it can be discouraging.

I agree with DynamicMentalFitness, I believe Think and Grow Rich is one of the best books out there for personal development. Others I enjoyed are Brian Tracy's Maximum Achievement and Over the Top by Zig Ziglar. Both books had some great insights in them.

Um....why is it that no one seems to see that Vitale is also a MARKETER?

Christie - you have it right. It does take action but the action is very different from the type that people get the image of when you say "action". Has anyone heard of following a hunch or "coincidences"? Once you correctly visualize what you want the energy will build in a series of coincidences which you need to act on. Just general working toward what you want isn't enough. Not saying you don't want to do that, but unless you start to recognize the "coincidences" going on around you, you are missing the boat on the directions that are actually handed to you to act upon.

Well, there is more to this than black-and-white and i am sure you know this. The ultimately "secret" to The Secret is that it is an experiencial paradigm. You truly have to experience it for yourself rather than "reason" it out in your mind.

Like, you could tell that a "rollercoster" is fast, but you'll have to experience the speed to appreciate it.

Though, i do agree, nothing seduces Lady LoA more than direct action. i think it's ACTION from us that emits a message to the Universe that we are ALIVE... RESPONSIVE... GIVING... and therefore worthy of receiving.

      Peace.

I think some of you are missing the boat here. Remember the example of the basketball players? Those who visualized making baskets performed just as well as those who actually practiced.

It's not about who is industrious and who is lazy. It's about developing the right kind of energy and the right kinds of inner feelings which cause the universe to lay certain opportunities at your feet.

Then, of course, you need the courage to act on them. And at times you will need courage to travel in directions where logic tells you not to go. So it's really more about changing who you are than it is about rolling up your shirtsleeves.

Some years ago I thought of taking up golf as a means of getting some exercise. As I focused on the idea, I began to become aware of golf courses that previously I hardly knew existed.

Of course, they had been there all along but I wasn't conscious of them before. Now it seemed as if there were golf courses on every corner!

I also became more aware of the number of merchants who were carrying golfing equipment. As I walked through a shopping center, stores that catered to golfers seem to spring out at me.

Whenever I opened a newspaper, I was struck by the amount of golfing activity being reported - and not only in the sports pages but also items in the general news.

Whenever I turned on the TV I was being bombarded with commercials for - golfing equipment.

The newsstands all seemed to be carrying magazines on golfing.

If I entered a bookstore, I soon noticed they had a golfing section and many books on the subject available for sale.

Clearly many opportunities were coming to my attention as I focused on the subject of golfing and became more conscious of it as a serious interest. However, I still had to contact the Golf Clubs and arrange games - happily there were several free public courses in my area. I still had to take action to buy books, magazines and equipment if they interested me. I still had to arrange partners to play with and book a time to play, and so on.

Opportunities for action presented themselves as a result of thoughts and feelings I had on the subject.

It began with focusing and becoming more consciously aware of a subject and the actions required soon became evident as I was now alert to and recognized paths that opened.

This is a common occurrence for us all. Remember, Alexander Fleming was looking for a way to kill infection (he was a researcher in the area of antiseptics and antibacterial substances) when he "accidentally" noticed mold on a dish had killed bacteria. Investigating further, he discovered Penicillin.

      [From Answers.com:
In his lab in 1928 Fleming discovered some bacteria-repelling mold in an uncovered culture of staphylococci. He identified the mold as Penicillium notatum and published his findings in 1929, naming the substance penicillin. Fleming lacked sufficient chemistry skills to exploit his findings, but years later penicillin was developed by Howard Florey and Ernest Chain into the first significant antibiotic. Fleming was knighted in 1944, and in 1945 he shared the Nobel prize in medicine and physiology with Florey and Chain.]

I just can't rely on how I feel to
get things done. Take action and the mind will
        follow.

I had amazing things that I put out to the
universe and they came to me in an uncanny
        stream of events.

        BUT

It was at that time it was up to me to take immediate action.

As Joe vitale says: don't think, wait, talk,
or contemplate when you see an opportunity.
Take action on it right away.

        Be, do, have,

It's who you become then the actions you take = what you want

        ready fire aim!

        Great post

There is a corollary to what was posted above - becoming more consciously aware of a subject is a "two-edged sword". If the consciousness-raising is for something desired, like taking up golf in the post above, our experiences and the outcomes tend to be happy ones. However, what often happens is that people become fixated (focus strong attention on) their problems, lacks and failures. The paths, experiences, and events will support those - lead to more of them. With problem-focusing, there is a continuing cycle of problems to face, along with anxiety and stress.

Those whose consciousness-raising places a strong need for action need have no fear - the paths open to them will indicate lots of activity required. The action-focused will be rewarded with lots of work.

By paying more attention to what is truly wanted brings a consciousness-raising that alerts us to more fruitful paths. Then it's simply a matter of taking appropriate action. It doesn't have to be difficult. It does require shifting attention from problems and lacks and paying more attention to the results we desire.

Our EFFECTIVE priorities are those things we constantly pay attention to - these are raised in our conscious awareness. Focus on problems and you'll see plenty of opportunities to experience more of them - actions will help take you there.

We all know those people who fear rejection and crave love and attention. Their actions unwittingly annoy people (with attention-seeking, constant talking, etc), bringing about the very rejection they feared!

The Secret was based off of Wallace D. Wattle's book The Science of Getting Rich, which spends several chapters discussing action.

As stated above The Secret left out the action component because it made it much easier to sell.

If you want to really learn the laws of abundance I would suggest you check it out SOGR. You can Google it and find free copies of it but make sure you find an UNEDITED version of it. A lot of people have "updated" the language in it because it was written about 100 years ago and republished it as a "co-author". I've read the edited versions and they almost alway change the meaning of parts of the book. Get the original!

EDIT: Steer clear of scienceofgettingrich.net, which is the first google result. They have heavily "modernised" this version.

PM me if you want a link to an unedited version.

This thread jumped out at me because I'm writing and ebook about the LOA's effects in relationships and love. I'm giving away a free writing of Wattle's about love in my sig.

      Thoughts -> Feelings -> Actions -> Results!

First we must Think about and focus on what we want.

Then we must Feel the emotions as if we have already achieved the desired outcome.

This provides us with the motivation and inspiration to take Action.

      The Results will soon follow!

I believe this sequence is like a chain. If one link is missing then the chain is useless!

I'm convinced that part of the reason the emphasis has been placed on the feeling and the thinking and the believing is because that's where it all starts. In fact, if we don't get those parts right all of the action in the world will still only produce limited success, if any at all. We've got to get the internal part right first.

Also, I think action wasn't as heavily discussed because there are some very sharp and savvy marketers promoting a ton of products around the Law of Attraction. And, it's no secret to people in this forum that good marketing involves providing part of the answer now, as a teaser for free or low cost or entry level price, and more of the answer later, as an "advanced level" for a higher price point.

    Good marketing, period.

    Hi Omari Taylor here,

I totally agree. With your thoughts things are drawn into your life but you must take action when the opportunity presents itself for thing to manifest. Yes positive thinking is key but that is only one piece of the puzzle. You must take action.
