How do you stay encouraged?

How is your focus? It seems that the most common reason for not making money is that we all tend to jump around too much. I'm one of the worst offenders, but in recovery-focused mainly on video creation for SEO. The temptation to go 15 other directions is always great, but I'm aware that if I give in, none will gain the needed momentum.

There are some great programs to follow here on the forum, including some very inexpensive member sites where you can get ongoing guidance and support, and if you follow a great one, stay focused, and persist, you will make money.

Other than focus, a big part of keeping motivated is your belief in your ability to succeed-a challenge indeed. If you make sure to take action toward your goal every day, it will help with your belief level, which will help with staying encouraged. Other than that, read success stories. Jay Abraham is a great encourager, and I highly recommend anything by him.

Good luck-you can succeed, and are probably closer than you think-if you stay focused-the #1 key.

Yeah, Greg! Focus is tough. I had a pretty hard time of it when I first started, just trying to learn everything and implement it all at once. But now I feel like I'm focused and targeted. In some ways it makes it harder, though.

Am I crazy? You know, if I send out 200 emails for one project and get no bites, that's more discouraging to me than if I had spent that time working on three different things. Even though neither one yields results, it seems easier to swallow when I didn't have all my eggs in the one basket.

Nevertheless, I've been sticking it out. I really have. I just wonder...well, I just wonder...

I suggest you get yourself a mentor if you don't already have one.

This is entirely your call, but if you've sent out 200 emails and gotten no response, it's possible that you need to adjust your approach.

One thing I would caution you on is taking general advice from strangers that don't know your whole situation, like myself and others who chimed in.

You have to figure out what makes sense for you-if some of the advice seems logical, perhaps take it into account, but if not, ignore it, including mine.

The best situation would be to get a mentor who has accomplished what you want to accomplish.

In regard to your current efforts, here are three questions that are key:

1) What is your measure of success? In other words, what response rate do you need to make it worth your while?

You need to decide how long you will pursue a campaign before it works-the advice to just persevere should be qualified-don't persevere with a campaign that is failing, without at least making adjustments to try to turn it around.

2) How warm is your list?

3) What are you doing to make the list warmer?

The last question is aimed at applying this insight about direct mail marketing from Dan Kennedy: If you are only going to send out 1000 postcards, it is far more effective to send a sequence of 5 to 200 people than a one time pitch to 1000.

You will succeed-it's just a matter of time, with perseverance, but tempered by testing, adjusting, surveying, learning from experts, more adjusting, even switching to a different model if the one you're following proves wrong for you, becomes outdated, etc.

Someone once gave me good advice about my tendency to be "bull headed" (because he knew I am a Taurus-sign of the bull), which I think should be kept in mind when marketers tell you to "try harder than everyone else-just keep going until you're successful":

If a bull pulling a plow hooks it under a huge root which either the bull, or the plow, or both are no match for, the bull, being bull-headed, just pulls even harder, until the plow breaks, or the bull collapses-the result of perseverance alone.

You are on the right track, a long journey starts with a single step. Don't give up, be focused knowing what you want. I feel like working much harder when things seems like not working good just to prove to myself that i can make it.

I'm not giving up. I just have to believe that this will work for me and that my time will come. But it's a pretty big, looming mountain in front of me. Daunting and disheartening... So how do you guys stay encouraged? Am I the only one spinning my wheels out here?

You're in that place! Simply put, keep trying things. But you know that.

The way I keep my motivation is reminding myself, consciously, of how much of a warrior I am to keep plugging away like I do. Like you're doing!

I'm not into making money online, but I do have a physical business that I need to build links for and promote. Initially, I was doing SOO much and getting no results. Everything takes time. It just does. And the results are reserved for awesome peeps like us who just never stop trying, and tap our creativity.

For me, focus is all about what you do for the first 30 minutes of your day. Get up and get five things done. They can be small, making your bed, standing in front of the mirror, looking yourself in the eye and saying your affirmation. getting showered, dressed walking the dog...then sitting down to eat breakfast and do some work.

Bad beginnings always make for bad endings (Euripides said that).

Getting up momentum makes it easier to keep it. Trying to start from a dead stop is a lot harder

First of all, congrats for reaching out here on the forum and being vulnerable. I think that is certainly commendable.

It's important to have a business plans in addition to your goals. There is nothing wrong with taking baby steps. Long term success online takes time.
Having a community to support you is also important. Please be sure to reach out here and let us know about your progress. Also, DO step away from the computer. Having it glue to your lap is never a good idea.

Once you really lock in on what it is you want to do be it CPA, affiliate marketing, product creation etc. concentrate 100% of of your efforts to that one thing and don't stop until you make your first dollar. Once you make that first dollar, figure out what's working, throw away what doesn't and work it as much as you can!

The way I maintain through the dry season is by remembering that the only people who make it in this industry are those that stick to. Mike Dillard didn't make a single dollar for 6 years, but now he's pulling in 10,000,000 a year. Hopefully it doesn't take that long though... lol

Its hard to break through, i know i havnt yet. Just stick with something, for a long time. Im sure your not expecting money over night but it will take time with a lot of ways.

I definitely can relate. It's even more discouraging when I see people who started 3 months ago who are making money and I haven't made as much with a years worth of effort.

But I continue on my road to greatness and have faith that my break through is just around the corner!

I was like you, I worked on this all the time - but I had no focus - I was on one thing, then another and I never completed anything - now I write down a few things to do a day, and do them one at a time.

I had to remeber, I needed to complete one thing to go on to the next - it is just like a puzzle - if you are missing a piece, it will never be whole

Chrishonda,

You are on the verge of a breakthrough, you just don't see it yet. But it's there. You are at the critical point where that thing you want...that thing you've been hoping for...is just about to manifest.

And then self doubt creeps in and robs you of your chance of success.

Don't give up.

When that feeling creeps in - and it does for most of us - here's what I do:

I say over and over and over again...

"Thank you God for bringing me success in every area of my life."

Of you course you can say "thank you" to the Universe, Higher Being, Infinite Intelligence...whatever suits you.

I'll even write it down nine times using both my left hand and right hand if I am feeling particularly down to make it sink in.

You'll be surprised at the feeling of peace that shows up.

Your thinking will clear up. And you will be able to move forward. When self doubt shows up again, say that phrase again.

This will train the mind to think differently.
