Use of opt-in boxes

I'm about to create my first ever campaign, but I have some doubts should I begin with the use of opt-in boxes. I'm afraid customers dont wish to give away their e-mail and wont continue further. Also, should I put the opt-in box to squeeze page or landing page? I know the squeeze page's #1 priority would be to catch the readers interest and after that give him the reasons why he really should give away his information. Is it a question of how attractive I can make the product look or will there always be those cases where the customer goes away no matter what?
So, all this brought me to the situation where I thought is it wise to use opt-in boxes as a beginner in affiliate marketing also because it requires other costly services along with host & domain.
