Marketing Distractions

Lets talk about the value of knowledge. Knowledge is powerful but only when it is applied systematically with an action plan to a desired result. Understanding the steps and the building blocks to grow your business is what it takes to make steady passive recurring income and a wealth of knowledge is just what the doctor ordered!

Have you spent any time searching for a home based business?

If you have... you may have been plagued with information overload... we are getting hit from all sides. Email, Skype, Texting, Calling, Video and who knows what else. Did you ever watch a Youtube video and as soon as you finish watching it... Youtube sends you a list of 5 more videos that are related to the video you just watched and then spend the next hour just watching videos? It's easy to get sucked into wanting to learn and get all the knowledge we can grasp onto. I know some people that have joined a business and after one year they are still gathering information and knowledge and haven't taken one step in building their business yet.

Why?... most people don't follow a plan of action to build and grow your business. They are side tracked with information overload and spending way too much time on Facebook, Youtube, emails and more and not tending to the daily plan of action... whether its placing online ads, being active in forums, writing articles, calling leads and more. Your daily plan of action is what drives traffic to your website and creates sales. Your daily plan of action is what makes you successful and the go to person for advise.

I don't have a problem with people being on Facebook or watching Youtube videos, but you have to discipline yourself to take care of the task at hand and follow your plan of action first. Yes, in your free time... work on your knowledge. Read before bed, watch a video during lunch, have fun on Facebook while you're on a break, but it's critical for your business and your growth to set some hours aside each day. Then during those hours... you only follow your plan of action to drive traffic to your website and create sales.

If you're stuck... get unstuck. Make a plan and follow it. We all get stuck and I know we all get side tracked. I'm guilty! I have to constantly remind myself to stay focused. It's discouraging to spend all day doing unproductive things and going to bed thinking, I didn't get anything done today and I didn't make any money either. That's why I block hours of time out. Example: From 9am - 10am... I place ads. From 11am to noon... I write articles for my blog. From 1pm -2:30pm... I call leads or team members. From 3pm-4pm... I visit and participate in a few of my favorite forums. It's only a few hours a day, but those few hours are very productive.

After dinner... if I don't have anything going on with my family, I build my knowledge. Attend a webinar, watch a video, read and article, participate in conservations on Facebook, etc.

I hope you got a little something from this post... I'd love to hear your comments. What is your daily plan? Have you ever fell in the information overload trap? How do you drive traffic to your website?

All the Best!

I agree that you have to have a plan and actually take action...

I also agree that you have to keep learning...

but I think that most people get caught up in the constant learning mode. There are dozens of new ways to MMO every single day. If you are always learning the "latest and greatest", you'll be in the same place 10 years from now as you are right now.

Sure you might be a bit smarter, but your bank account doesn't care how smart you are.

Good Point... Information Overload is one of the biggest challenges on the internet today.... we are in an information age, and there's so much stuff online that many of us sometimes get totally lost and overwhelmed on what exactly to do, to get the results they need especially when getting started, but being smart doesn't always make money either.

Girls scouts go door to door and sell cookies to make money for their troop... they don't sit and learn everything there is to know about the cookies they are selling.

Scott, I definitely agree with the Girl Scout analogy. I, usually, use the light analogy. I know that I can flip the switch and the light will come on. I do not need to know how the electricity flows from the switch to the light bulb, in order to be able to see. As the light bulb illuminates the room, all I need to do is open my eyes.

No, being smart does not always make you money. But being smart on the internet goes a lot further than hard work any day. This means that you can get more down and be effective in your marketing strategies.

I definitely agree with the plan of action and the need to make sure your not getting sidetracked from your original goals.

As far as what Justin said, I still think it's important to learn constantly. If you make a conscious effort to stick to your original goals then I don't see how learning can hurt at all.

I agree... Learning will never hurt you, if you can afford to go to college or spend years on learning everything there is to know... you will have that knowledge for life to help you grow your business, but if you need to make money now... you have to stick to business action plans first and gather knowledge on the side.

Tip: It's pretty hard to do business actions while driving or mowing the lawn, so I load up my mp3 player with webinars and product information seminars and listen to them while I have nothing better to do.

A person could actually get a college education and more, if they used tapes, CDs, and mp3 files, while they are driving down the road. Just think how many audio books a person could devour, while riding around in his or her car. I have nothing against listening to music, but a person could be a lot more productive with his or her time.

Learning is not the problem. The lack of action is. There are many people who want to learn and learn and learn, but they do not apply what they have been taught. You have not learned anything until you teach it. In order to teach it, you have to have put it practice for yourself, in order to gain credibility. Who is going to listen to someone who has not put into practice what they have learned?

Thanks Terry... as always. you have great wisdom and thoughts. I strongly feel that marketing distractions are why most people fail in a business, whether its online, offline, brick and mortar, home business etc... if your focus isn't on traffic and sales, you won't make money period... no matter how much knowledge you have.
