Controversial Rant Alert: Put Away The Weed to Succeed!

Hey folks,
Many of you are huge fans and followers of a few [unnamed] Internet marketers who like to publicly talk about their drug usage, but I call BS on some of this crap.

Do you really think these guys and gals can make as money as they do by getting high everyday.

There is no way that anyone under the influence of weed on a daily basis can run a successful Internet business (or any business for that matter).

There is a certain "dishonesty" about this whole thing. If you really want affiliates and followers of yours to succeed, you have a responsibility to let your followers know that they need to stay clean when working your online business... to stay away from drugs.

If you are trying to make money online, then stop smoking weed. There is a special focus you need to have when staying on task and if you are "doping up" on a daily basis and you expect to have a winning internet marketing product, then you are fooling yourself.

It has been proven that regular marijuana usage can and will destroy focus... stop fooling yourself!

Now, if you decide to do "whatever" on your days off, that's your choice and your life, but if you are wondering why it's taking you six months to a year to create an internet marketing product, maybe this is one of the reasons.

Just cause you see IMers bragging about using dope, doesn't mean you should do the same. Drugs don't make your life easier or help you churn out more business. It has just the opposite effect.

Much of what you see is just smoke and mirrors and a way to grab attention from others. Don't fall for it. Be yourself and don't try to imitate the negative traits of your IM leaders.

How do you feel about this controversial subject?
Do you dare comment?

I agree that you shouldn't go overboard with it. As long as its done occasionally and it doesn't interfere with your personal life/work, then there is nothing wrong with a joint here and there.

What do I really think about weed? I think its only as "taboo" as it is because of the government.

Believe it or not, people used to be able to pay their taxes in hemp. No joke.

Then one day they decided OH NO! We can't have people smoking pot! So they made it a crime.

I am not sure how this discussion is any different if we swap weed out for drinking, depression meds etc.

I know some powerful business people who keep liquor in their office and have been known to start before noon.

Personally I think if you are good at what you do, your vices are not relevant.

Maybe I would be more successful if I didn't smoke pot. Nobody will ever know

I think it's true for most people that weed affects your performance adversely but like drinking, it's effect is not as prevalent if you aren't doing it at work. Now some can smoke and drink at work just fine and may even work better that way but I would wager that is not true for most. As for the OP, making blanket statements is an easy way to have your arguments picked apart.

    Years of practice?

HAHAHA no I'm kidding. But on a serious note, you dont have to smoke 24/7 to enjoy a hit here and there. As for the business aspect, just look at Snoop Doggy Dogg or Bob Marley or something. Yes they have managers, BUT they both are HUGE potheads, and have/had more money than they know what to do with.

As long as it's done in moderation and it doesn't effect your life in a negative way, I don't see any problems with it.

That advice is timely, especially if you wanted to become a pot head.

Did you know that drug use is lower among those on welfare? When states do drug testing they find this out.

Do you know people who drink every day who make a lot of money? Honestly I do all my bosses(own a large dealership) drink like crazy.

And I personally know people with serious drug use that do well in the world.

The key is they don't let what they do for fun consume their life. drugs cost money and they need to make money to support the habit(very true for coke back in it's heyday). So do not assume because someone has a habit that it means they are lazy. Yes the lazy hippy sterotype is out there but it is as often false as it is true.

I'd say I know more people who are lazy because of video games vs. weed.

While I´m sure a bunch of street-corner marketers may exclaim that "Yo, dis weed is makin me mo moneeey!"... I´m not sure what the point is. I have yet to see any Internet Marketer claim their success comes directly from smoking weed.

"Become a pot-head and make more money!"
"My profits and bong sessions go hand in hand!"

Is it about the pot, or about drugs? Is pot a drug? What is the definition of drug? Something addictive? Physically or mentally addictive? Lots of medications that are not addictive are classed as drugs. Take a look at the obese population and tell me food is not a addictive drug in many cases. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs. Alcohol is one of the most destructive drugs. IM can also be addictive.. so is it a drug? Ok then, here is my confession: IM is a drug - and I am a user.

A lot of what we do is creative work. If someone wants to take a toke and get creative, let them. Do I think it is wrong to publicly connect it with a marketing campaign? Yes. Just as wrong as saying "Do this and that and then lay back and enjoy a couple of drinks by the pool".

The problem is never what is used, only what is abused.

      Anyway.. what was the question?

Hard to say... a lot of Internet Marketers started into the business so they could relax on a beach and smoke all day.

But what I've found after spending 5 years in 12 countries doing just that, is that if you want to create an interactive business that teaches people, you probably should not smoke.

Smoking daily has a selfish aspect to it. Your message will reflect that arrogance, selfishness, etc. I suppose it all has to do with what your goals are.

I've also noticed that after turning 40, your brain just doesn't pop back the next morning the way it used to. Thinking this is the reason most folks stop around this age...but not sure.

For now... I'm out. But you never know.

    Thoughts?
