Money?
Fame?
Success?

How much is enough? Something I've noticed about myself is that I never seem to reach the magical 'enough.'

It's crazy, but three years ago I would have thought a six figure income was more than enough. Now I think 250,00 would be more than enough.

It seems that the IM bug doesn't go away and that your goals simply become more grandiose with time.

I prefer the fame that i made it in what i am passionate about than the money.

I already have money and am contented with it :-)

But the pursuit of excellence is what drives me today..

Unfortunately, that is why we both are doomed to never be satisfied.

The pursuit of excellence is a never ending journey.

I think if you're a goal oriented person you are going to keep on striving for that next milestone. It doesn't necessarily have to be financial though. I'm sure at some point the money doesn't even matter, it's just a matter of accomplishing another goal.

        Completely agree with this.

I saw a post recently that IM was like a 'game' to him. The various websites he owned part of his 'empire' and the money acting as 'points'.

I think it's that competitive nature that makes people succeed.

There is no number for "enough" , succesful people don't have a notion of this term.
Enough may be always growing and not stoping or start being lazy.Enough is never thinking about this of things.
    Think big then bigger.
Take Steve Jobs for example (best C.E.O in the history ) , do you think he thought about having a 8,3 billion dollars fortune?
No.But he never thought about enough.

For me the journey is far more rewarding than the prize. The process energizes me so once the goal is obtained it is time for another journey towards something else that I have yet to have obtained

I think for those of us who are now making an income from IM, what we have and want will never be enough.

Simply put to get to where we are fortunate enough to be took time, motivation, dedication and persistance. These aren't qualities that just disappear, when you reach the top of a mountain you simply see the bigger one that was hidden behind.

Also the more money you earn, fame you achieve etc. the more you expect from yourself.

The more you give to others, the more you get back. This seems to be a universal truth. So if your focus is on giving more and more, and other-people centred, rather than self-focused, the focus of the question 'how much is enough' changes from being centred on one self to that of helping others, and the best answer to that is 'help as much as you can'. The money that comes as a result is simply a by-product.

If the money is not generated by ripping people off then it's never enough. If you have so much money that you no longer need anymore, there are plenty of needy people in your local city you can help out with the surplus.

Some of us develop products that actually help people... instead of ripping them off.

And some of us give rather large donations to charity.

      Just saying.

It's our Human nature to always want to grow and expand. If we stop wanting to grow then we will just become stagnant and bored. The trick is to be happy regardless of how much we have but not stop wanting more.

I think its really cool to expand and increase our goals as we reach and surpass the ones we've set for ourselves. With he caveat that as long as we are enjoying the journey, why not?

Just like playing a game, isn't it fun to play and go for new high scores. This benefits not just us but those connected to us - family members, staff, partners, customers, friends and others in our circle.

If what you need is not enough, than nothing will be enough.

Honestly there is no real difference in your lifestyle when you go from $250k to $1m, you just become more relaxed and never have to worry about money anymore. Nothing less, nothing more.

If you are a crazed up, over-compensator that buys lambourghinis etc ... no sum will be enough for you and you'll end up broke.

If you live well, travel, have fun, most things in life are not expensive.

In terms of money, $10 million. That's enough for 100 comfortable years of $100k each. After that, everything can go to charity. I won't stop doing things, but that's when I would personally have enough for me.

Instead of saying "have you made enough?" how about we just say "are you happy?".

I feel the word "enough" refers to giving up almost. I mean it's not saying you are quitting or anything, but it definitely means you are going to progress any further because you are making whatever amount.

So instead, let's just talk about "happiness". If you are happy with how much you are making, then that's awesome, continue doing what you are doing, but maintain happiness. If we have to use the word "enough", that means we probably aren't absolutely happy, right? I mean you can never have enough happiness

I personally see my own business's going pretty far because I am happy working on them and helping others. If I wasn't making a dime, but was still able to afford the same lifestyle (don't know if that'd work?), I would still be happy doing what I am doing.

The only time I think you should say "enough", is when you are done doing whatever it is that you started in the first place.

I worked for a huge trucking company, which I made at the time what I considered "enough" to get by, but now that I look at it, I was extremely unhappy. There is no amount of money in this world that can replace happiness.

I've had months this year where I have pulled in over 5 figures (holy crap that's a lot lol), but it's not about "enough", it's about, am I happy with what I am doing, and the answer to that is yes.

    So ask yourself this.

If you made $1,000 a month doing what you are doing right now, would you still be happy? (if you make less than $1,000, replace that with your own income)

Definition of ENOUGH : occurring in such quantity, quality, or scope as to fully meet demands, needs, or expectations <enough food for everyone>

Enough seems to be a relative term and so we use it that way depending on the situation. There have been several excellent examples already posted and each one is subjective. If you are having a $20 dinner and you have $25, you have enough. If you are going to 100 miles and you need 5 gallons of gas and you have 5 gallons of gas you have enough.

If you have 5 children and only $2 you don't have enough. I have enough money to provide for my family and still have some to invest. I have 27 grandchildren and a few great grandchildren, that is enough. I have a wife whom I love and who loves me and that is enough. Most important I have the Lord. I am a satisfied man, I have enough.

It is not the money, fame and success is what you call ENOUGH. Because there's no enough with these. Enough is when you are happy and contented with your life and not craving for something more. Enough is when you help other people. Enough is when you see someone suffering from pain or who is a beggar and you know you have everything.

If you asking me how much is enough in terms of how much money you earn, how famous and success you are, I don't really have the answer.

It is certainly possible to calculate exactly when enough is enough. I (believe it or not) created an exact formula that can tell me to the cent exactly when I have enough money and what to do with any left over. I use it every day. I'm very passionate about this exact topic actually. I made a "fair bit" one day selling a website and felt that I still wanted to keep making more money. I found this strange (I certainly had what many people would consider to be "enough") so I thought about it and decided to start asking this exact question..."when is enough enough?". You just have to change your thinking a few degrees and it takes you into a whole other place.

It’s really hard, admit it or not, for people to be contented the fact that they got everything still asking for more. True happiness neither find in material thing nor in success and fame. Try to spend time to think and see what’s in your heart and you’ll soon find the answer.
