Is It Harder for You To - Get Started or .. Finish?

Which one gives you the biggest challenge when it comes to tackling a task you don't like but have to do? Getting started or finishing?

Mine is starting, I can always think of reasons to put it off ... at least until the last minute. And after I start, it's easier than normal to get distracted.

For me, it would definitely be starting. There would never be something to finish if there's nothing that you have started in the first place. People can always pull off a trick or two to finish the task.

      For me it's finishing...
I start a project with energy and dedication, but after a while I get just lazy...
I learned to continue despite that, but it still seems a burden even doing a tenth of what I gladly did at the beginning...

I used to have a problem with both starting and finishing. Now that I'm older, actually much older I have learned to start "now" and stay with it until finished.

Procrastination is such an awful master and captures us so easily. It also plays into that part of us that comes sometime in the teen age years, laziness. Watch a five year old and they want to do everything and help do whatever there is to do. But by the teens,(read this very slowly) they just can't get started unless it's something they really WANT to do. Unfortunately, some of that carries over into adulthood and shows up in putting off doing today what we might be more inclined to do tomorrow.

Eventually, though, if you live long enough, wisdom sets in and you realize that if I'm the one to do it I'd better get going.

Oohh good question, I think it's very close but starting (at least for most) is probably harder. I can't think which one debilitates me the most, perhaps its an even blend of the two

What a great topic, for me it depends on the project. It can be both and during the middle, Some are started with so many ideas and excitement that I can't wait to get started. Then other projects are put off for awhile and reasons why I should do something else become more important. I can also find it more difficult to sustain my interest during the middle of a project when I must continue to accomplish boring tasks. Each project has a different area that seems more difficult to complete.

It's definitely harder for me to finish! I always have so many ideas and get so excited and start one project and then leap to the next one as I either come to a road block which I tell myself I will attend to later or I get bored of it and think it's no good.

I'm slowly getting better at finishing things though!

Definitely finishing. I can start around 10 Projects at the same time, but I can't finish one of them.

Starting is always harder, it like setting off into the unknown, you have apprehension about what you are meant to be doing, but them once you take that first step it becomes easier and your thought processors kick in and you cant wait to see the finished results

  • Finishing is definitely the most difficult for me. I start with tenacity and a plan and tend to lose the enthusiasm after some roadblocks. I have learned to work through the lack of enthusiasm and focus on building good habits as opposed to looking for the next thing to get me excited.

However, it is very often much easier said than done.

I'm late in the game here, but if the task is something I'm dreading to accomplish, then definitely STARTING. LOL. It's so much easier to procrastinate and find other things to keep me busy, but I have realized the sense of accomplish is greater when I actually start and finish those dreaded tasks.
