I am currently new in this Forum and I have found it to be a very resourceful place for anyone who want to be an internet marketer. I think I want to be one, between I am wondering aloud how my location would work for or against my IM business. Anyone ?

  • I think there is no relationship between the location and your IM business success.
Your business success is determined by the quality, content and services you can provide. That's my opinion...,

Let me thing about an example,

      - let say you live far away from big citys, how is your connection there?

      - If you live in a City with all ressources that you need for your IM company, than you dont have to charge high delivery!

      - If your customer live all in the same city, you can combine your IM success with some offline activitys...for example forums in the city, or meetings with intereseted clients.

I think my location has contributed to my success because most English speaking niches are saturated and if you're from a smaller country with a different language all you need to do is copy some successful concepts into your smaller market.

  • Location can help you in IM, especially if you are heavily marketing info products, there are some countries that does not impose heavy taxes on our industry while there are some countries which does. So, somehow it can affect you and your income revenues.

My location doesn't affect my business, only my profits. This is due to currency conversions from international payouts.

Big news is small news in big towns; small news is big news in small towns.

News cameras from a big town can purpose a small town hick to look the fool over a big dash dangedidy of a deal. Which begs a question about cameras/online videos, and what percentage of the World Wide Web population will never have broadband available?

What separates you from Social mentality/environment/climate, etc...but still function within it is important. Some communities it is hard to openly think outside of a cloistered little box of how it's forever supposed to be (OR ELSE!). The social skills required to succeed is being able to function in diverse social circles.

Several years ago I took an entrepreneurship class in an overly populated small town. Though it is a small town, it is full of public resources as a result of its cultural diversity. The cost of the class was a sliding scale based on income. Somewhere from zero dollars to $900 per seat. There was a lesson about dealing with in the way people who will never see it your way, and crash your creative optimism for not taking their bad advice. You have to think creatively like an entrepreneur towards moving them out of the way and moving on. Something like, "So long Mommy Daddy. Sorry for being so covert. I guess it wasn't drugs after all."

I'd have to say that for the most part, my location has had really no affect. The beauty of Internet Marketing is that you could virtually work from anywhere in the world as long as you have access to a laptop/computer and the Internet. As an Internet Marketer, the one small effect I've seen in terms of my location is that there are certain affiliates that will not accept me because of my location (Colorado) due to some sales tax requirement for online purchases (Amazon being one of the big ones that I can not affiliate with).

But, overall, I can't really see how else my location would really affect my business. The Internet has truly brought the world closer... in fact, my business partner lives on the other side of the states (never met him in person yet), but we have accomplished so much together - location just doesn't matter in our case.

I have locations both in rural and urban areas and the cultural norms and ideals about the internet and how businesses should interact with social media differs like night and day. In the rural area, business wouldn't be caught dead with a "like us on facebook" sticker but in the urban areas this is not only popular but the norm.
