How Bad Do You Want Success?

Most people will admit to wanting success (whatever you define it as). But what are you willing to do or give up for it?

I personally draw the line at family, integrity and health? Everything else is open. After that I have a whatever it takes attitude.

Where do you draw the line?

We all have the same 24 hours in the day. How we use it is our choice.

But all to often people waste those precious hours on things that really don't matter.

Priorities should be God, family, business. Everything else is just a distraction!

Amen to that one. If I spent time that I should spend with God and family on my business instead, I might have more money, but the small happiness that provides pales in comparison to the lasting joy God and family provide.

First, I must define success. Success means reaching a goal. If my goal is to make a lot of money, my bank account will reflect my success. If my goal is to instill a love for humanity, integrity and honesty in my children, I will find success by loving, teaching and disciplining my children. If my goal is to be a more Godly person, I will never find success because my goal will not end until my life does. Give up something for success? Depends on what kind of success you are looking for. Personally, I think our deepest desire as humans is unfailing love - whether you are looking for that in money, sex, fame or family, don't deny it. It's the cry of our hearts.

I refuse to sacrifice the relationship with my fiancee and I won't do something that blatantly goes against my values. When it comes to health, I'm not going to put myself in a position that's going to cause serious problems. But I will go with very little sleep if it means I'm in a better position in a year or two.

Those are good points, especially the "very little sleep" part. Having little sleep seems to be a right of passage for success in most cases. So, you're in good company.

That's kind of vague don't you think? What do you find important? That's what I think you call restrictive. I call it being specific.

I know what I find important but I didnt feel the need to include them in my above post. Although looking back on my post, I don't think I used the right term by saying your definiton was restrictive.

I will try to explain my point better. I found the term success in this thread to be unclear, only one person defined what they counted as success. From your posts, I have the impression you mean work related success but you didn't actually say so which leaves me slightly unsure what you actually mean't. To be even more specific, if you mean't work related success, did you mean the money you earn, the time you spend, the collegues you have, the size of your business, etc.

Personally, I would put my studies on a temporarily hold inorder to launch a new venture.

I was basically referring to online marketing success. And in terms of money/profits. My measure of success is how many others I've helped succeed. I don't have a number yet, but it will be a lot.

Are you talking about a "something for nothing, you can have it all, no pain and big gain" philosophy? Success without sacrifice? Nice if you can swing it.

Hi everyone all of your shares were absolutely inspiring and interesting.
From my perspective i believe that success is a very abstract concept for eveyone. For some it might mean having a lot of money, others being able to help people, Improving and alsways growing and expanding or even helping your family and friends such as being a good parent or friend. But it all comes down to what you value most and what you truly get pleasure from instead of pain.
Hope i Helped my name is jason monachini

When I was younger, I basically put everything else behind getting to my goals. I had income goals and retirement goals etc. I invested all my money, didn't see my family much at all and worked what felt like 24/7 but I made all my goals.

Once it was done. I realized that getting their was kinda anti-climatic and most people don't want to get excited about our success when they are still struggling or working for someone else.

When I am asked to speak at different events, I always tell people, I hope that all of them get to achieve all their goals and then they too may realize that it is pretty anti-climatic and that it really was all about the journey and not the destination.

Now, I have much more balance in my life. I was happy then and am happy now but I think the difference is that now, I make more other people happy, too.

      Haha! That made me LOL.

What a great question! Hard to really tell what any of us would "give up" until we're at the point where we can literally taste the success! Money has a weird way of messing with a person's emotions at times!

Fortunately, the only thing most of us have to give up is our time and comfort!

      Intriguing question!

I will do anything to achieve success as long as it does not affect my relationship with the Lord. I like to live by two general principals which guide my actions. Love the Lord with all my heart and Love my neighbor. These two keep in in line. keep in mind, "my neighbor means "everyone". Its hard, but I try. LOL

I really desire to be successful but I am only willing to go so far. As many people here have already stated i will not sacrifice my family, relationships or my health in order to become successful. After all without those mentioned before success is meaningless. Without family to share your success with then it is meaningless and without your good relationships with your friends again success is meaningless.

Besides I am doing this so I can spend more time NOT working then actually working. Meaning doing the things I enjoy as opposed to dread.

Setting priorities in advance is good advice. When temptations, unexpected situations and other issues throw you off your game plan - having your priorities in place makes it easier to stay on track, like a compass.

Trying to make decisions in the middle of life's battles is much harder if you don't have your priorities in place. That's when you usually fall victim to others priorities.
