I'll show you mine if you show me yours? (Life Mission Statements!)

Hello Everyone! I've been trolling this forum for what seems like a year! Glad to be part of the community finally.

I have had a very compelling personal life mission statement for probably the last 4 months and I can't even describe how much more I have been focused!

As human beings, we're on course sometimes and off course sometimes... But I've noticed since I've committed myself to my mission statement, there is virtually no "off course". It's a beautiful thing!

So, here is mine: "To be a living example of what is possible with a human life!"

Ahhhh! I love it! It's glorious!

This keeps my brain and emotions connected to being a great example for people I care about. My wife, child, close friends, family, and customers. It also keeps my brain always thinking, what is possible? Can I be more? Can I be better, faster, stronger? What is possible with my finances, career, physical body, emotions and happiness, family, and spirituality?

We are so fortunate to have this online community of like minded people. I don't know about you guys, but in real life... positive and ambitious people are few and far between.

I would love to hear your Personal Mission Statements! I'm sincerely looking forward to this!

  • I never thought about having a life mission statement before. After reading your post I think it is a great idea to come up with a life mission statement. I am going to have to give this some thought and post back in this thread.

Ben, I'm looking forward to it!

I'm hoping this topic takes off because it made a HUGE difference in my level of focus!

Not just my ability to "get things done", but my Energy and Enjoyment for life increased dramatically to say the least!

My life mission is to obtain absolute happiness. It's hard to explain, but I don't really care about money, or having really nice things. I don't care if I make $100,000 a year or $30,000 a year. I just don't want to sit at a desk from 9 to 5 each and every day. I want to be able to spend time with the people I care about and go out and do the fun things that I want to do, like camping/rock-climbing/BASE jumping/whatever. That is really the only thing that matters to me. If I make $100,000 a year, great, but I'm just going to be throwing most of that into CDs and savings of other sorts to secure myself financially in the future so I can continue to do the things I want to do.

We get too tied up with material things like a big TV or a super expensive car. I don't need a super expensive car to make my car something that I enjoy riding in. I can pick up a $2,000 car from the '80s, fix it up and make it drive like a boss and enjoy every bit of it.

I don't hold any religious beliefs of any sort, but I do know this. When I die, people won't remember me for the things I own. They will remember me for the experiences we shared. Lastly, I don't want to die having not pushed my boundaries, if I die doing something crazy like jumping off a bridge, I'll die doing something that I enjoy, with people who I enjoyed being with. In my eyes, that means I'll die happy, and what more could you ask for? Either you will die pleased with your life, or die with regrets.

Probably got a little off topic there but hey, it's all sorta my "mission".

    AlexTheKid! Love the reply man!

Not sitting at a desk 9-5... And a host of adrenaline producing hobbies... Are you a fellow ADD/ADHD'er my friend? Haha, maybe not... But I didn't find out until I was 29 (last year). Then it hit me, "that's why I can't ride anything without trying to do a wheelie..."

While I don't mind driving cheap cars, I would do anything in my power to never drive an 80's Olds Cutlass I used to have! Never had a car been produced with a V8 (stock) that was so slooow!

Right on man... You go for the Experience, Excitement, and Connection!

    Thanks for your reply!

Nathan, yes, I have ADD. I had it all through schooling and such but school didn't require much attention anyways so it wasn't hard to work around it. I've never really associated my need for adrenaline with my ADD, I guess it is fairly common in people with ADD.

Obviously there are many cheap cars that simply aren't worth driving, but I more mean like "throwaway" cars. Cheap tuners that you can abuse the **** out of and if they break/you wreck it, you don't really worry too much and then can just sit back and go "damn! THAT was fun!", doing the kind of things you would never try and pull off in a $70,000 car. Obviously the tuner needs to be fast, why else buy it .

I always just thought about how only in the last 100 years or so we have become slaves of our jobs, and that isn't what it means to be human. Being human is just enjoying yourself, being in nature, pushing your "limits" as far back as you can.

Nice to meet somebody with similar views on things, I actually thought people wouldn't respond well seeing as this is a money forum.
