First Step To Success

FIRST STEP TO SUCCESS

Hey everyone, t wan to share with you what i believe might be the first step to take on the road to success. In all honesty these are not my own writings. After reading "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill which is one of my favourite books, it totally changed my life for the better and this article is pretty much a summary of the first chapter

First off, lets get right into it, success may be defined in a lot different ways. Some people define success through materialistic gains like money, cars, houses, blings etc While others define success differently. However the one definition of success that stood out for me is the one by Nightingale who said "Success is a progressive realisation of a worthy deal" What that literally means is that success is not an end. You actually find success while you are on the way on achieving your goal. It is the process that took you to your goals which is in fact the real success. And i think Nightingale was completely spot on there, and this is exactly what i will be illustrating in the paragraphs below.

So, let us analyse the process of success that makes it a worthwhile journey.i would start with "DESIRE” as Napolean Hill stated himself. And he furthermore backs his views through numerous events of people who have achieved massive success because they had a burning desire. He takes the example of C Barnes who as we know now was the associate of Thomas Edison. But it never really was like that since the beginning of their relationship. When Barnes met Edison for the first time, he was so poorly dressed up that may be a tramp would look better than him. But that didn't deter him at all as Barnes was mentally prepared for anything in order to achieve his dreams of becoming Edison's associate. He may have resembled a tramp but his thoughts were those of a King!!! He was prepared to take on the most menial job available to achieve his dreams. Now we should ask ourselves, was that a normal desire or wish? Of course not, this was nowhere near a normal wish that C Barnes exhibited at that very moment. His desire, to best explain it, has totally consumed him, that is when you finally end up with a burning desire. As a matter of fact time proved him right as he stood in the same office he first met Edison and now he was the business associate of Edison.

Remember when he first started working with Edison, several years went by and there was no sign of any success looming ahead, but its only after his fifth year that everything turned around for the better for C Barnes. I think this is a pretty amazing story of how desire can lead you to achieve great things. Another great lesson of this is that C Barnes was so passionate about this that he never gave himself an alternative. Once he landed in the Edisson's office he burnt all the bridges and focussed on only working to achieve his dreams. Other things just didn't matter to him.

Here is another thing we need to bare in mind guys, when you have a burning desire like this you won't have any difficulty convincing yourself that you can achieve your dreams. If for instance, your desire is money, then you need to become money conscious until your mind is completely consumed by this then only you are making progress towards achieving it.

    Yes, that's totally right.

Success come first with the burning desire of wanting something so much that you are willing to give your life. At least that it's what I've learned in my experience. Because don't matter how big it's the wall you will never lose sight of your goal, you always find a way to reach it.

    Thanks for sharing.

If someone doesn't desire a thing it may not even ever happen unless by other means. Action is one of the most important steps. But not just action, action that sends someone toward their goal rather than away.

I have often said that the two most important ingredients to success are discipline (doing what you need to do when you need to do it whether you feel like it or not) and direction.

Napoleon Hill lists a burning desire as the starting point of all achievement. Elsewhere he has said the first step is definiteness of purpose.

The two go hand in hand.

And when you have the burning desire, you develop the discipline, and definiteness of purpose is another word for direction.

I love Napoleon Hill! Great post, thanks for sharing.

    One more thing.

I like Earl Nightingales definition of success (which he mentions in "The Strangest Secret in the World" -YouTube it if you have not already heard it!) however it is missing something.

It raises the question: What is it that makes a goal or an ideal worthy?

My own personal definition of success that answers this is:

"Finding your natural talents and passions, and using them in a way that glorifies God and serves others."

That's a Jedi Jarrod original quote there. lol.
