Agree Or Disagree: The Law of Attraction Works

That quote, is taken from Science of Getting Rich book, by Wallace D. Wattles.

Well, I agree that something you believe with emotion and unshakable faith, you will obtain it. It´s crystal clear when you read the Science of Getting Rich. I´ve experience it in my life, before this idea being marketed trough "The secret".

However, there´s a missing point in "The secret".

This book will not teach you how to become a better person, even ask to yourself whether your desires are in acordance to your true self or not.

You may believe money is everything, so you can focus on money an may be getting rich, but without a purpose in life, but only selfish, the money won´t make any good.

There are lots of examples in the secret book similar to your little experiment shared in another post, but the key point is, the secret won´t tell you how to connect with your mission in life.

If you´re in the incorrect track of your life, the secret and law of attraction only will lock you in the same mistakes.

I believe the love is the answer. And nothing else. Love for people. Love for what you´re working. How you serve to people. Love is the answer. And yes, the love will give you tons of money also.

There are 2 camps on those who believe in ...LOA.

Some believe that they just need to think (something) and that something will just appear out of thin air.

They are others who not just believe that they need to think that way, but they will need to do all they can to bring that something into fruition.

Then, they are those that don't believe in the LOA and those who never hear of LOA.

You will have to do all you can with what you have, and anything else you can't do, you got to leave it to the Universe, Creative Power, Gods, Higher Power(whenever you believe in).

I disagree.

Yes, thinking about something (focusing your intention on it) helps attract it into your life.

But THINKING, in and of itself, is not sufficient. It has to be combined with action.

And even then, it is still not enough. Because action wouldn't help much if you're taking the wrong actions. The action you take has to be EFFECTIVE action.

So I disagree that "whatever you think about you WILL attract into your life". The word "will" is misused. Because thinking is NOT enough.

Agree with davesharp. The love message is common from real masters.
The great little known american master got enlightened by changing all his non-loving feelings to love.

We have the power to clean our inner world. Without cleaning ourselves first - all visualizations, affirmations and meditations is like trying to drive a car through the garbage dump.
In rare case we manage to get through (manifest intention at will) in others we got stuck every so often without results. It's not that given manifestation technique is bad, it's just the inner mess prevents anything good to happen in any predictable fashion.

Masters say that when you cleaned up completely - a mere effortless thought is enough to create things.

Great to see everyone's responses.
I definately agree that the Secret does not teach you how to want what your true self wants, or how to be a better person. But that is not its purpose. It already assumes that you know what you want and teaches you how to get it.
If you want to learn what you want then you need to read a different book.

Our brains are pattern-matching-machines, and they are constantly matching the sensory input with the stored patterns in our memories. In fact, our brains are actually GUESSING at what we see/hear/taste/etc. based on the closest pattern.

Thats why you think thats your friend down the street, but really its a stranger. You were so sure that you yelled out to them, but once you realized it was a stranger, its looked NOTHING like your friend.

So what does this have to do with LOA?

If you fill your mind in negative thoughts and images, those will be the dominant patterns and those will be the most likely matches for the sensory input... so you will see/hear/taste/etc. the negativity that you have repeatedly stored.

The opposite is also true.

This is also why its gets better and better (or vice versa) as the dominant patterns will "see" themselves more and more and this just reinforces things.

Everything in this physical universe has duality - yin/yang. There are always two sides. If you TRAIN yourself to see the positive/empowering side, then you will... time and again.

This will help you to make decisions that lead you in a more positive/empowering direction and thus, your life changes. Of course, you still have to make decisions and take action, but it does work.

I have trained myself to be very optimistic and I see opportunities everywhere. In fact, I see more potential opportunities than I possibly have time for!

I also know people that love to complain and fault-find. And anytime I make a suggestion for an opportunity or solution, they find a problem with it. No matter how many solutions I suggest, there is always a problem or something to stop them.

They have established major patterns of fault-finding and negativity.

The next logical question is : how can I change my patterns? There are several ways... the traditional method is to consciously reframe your negative thoughts and look for the positive. Over time, you will swing the balance. This can take some time.

My preferred method (and the one that works great for me) is to simply get rid of all patterns and turn it over to the universe.

You see - the universe is essentially life-affirming. All things will end in their time, but if life/love wasn't intrinsically more powerful, then life would not exist.

When you get clear and create a space, the universe can fill that space with divine grace... which is perfect harmony and fulfillment. Its one of the benefits to meditation.

No matter how you do it, its vital that you purge negative thought patterns and reinforce the positive ones. This WILL lead to an upward spiral.

However, there are other universal laws in place. The Law of Attraction is just one of them and they all work together.

The Law of Attraction is one of several universal laws, and as such will work so long as its principles are applied correctly. While belief and acceptance will enhance the speed and quality of the results you get, the law will work even if you applied its principles without any conscious awareness of what you were doing.
