Success: Getting What You Want vs. Wanting What You Get? Your Thoughts.

How would you personally define success from these 2 choices?

Getting what you want?

- Or -

Wanting what you get?

Also telling why would be helpful to the discussion, but not mandatory.

There is no right or wrong answer par se. Just taking a short poll for an article I'm working on. Thank you for your input.

As a thank you ... P.M me and I'll send you a link to the article when it's done if you like.

I think I would have to define success with the "Getting what you want" option. It seems to me that the whole concept of success is in doing something special and out of the ordinary. "Wanting what you get" isn't doing anything at all.

Edit: If you consider the question as "How would you define happiness?" I think the choices work better than success.

You have a good point, in fact you can fill in the blank with success, happiness, peace, contentment, etc. But because the publication I'm doing the article for deals with success I lead with it here. Thanks.

    Getting what you want!

But you create your own rules about what it means to be successful and what has to happen for you to be successful. For some people to be successful they have to make $1.000.000 a year. For others it is enough to breath.

My rule for being successful is to never give up. As long as I am not giving up I am successful. Your rule for being successful may be something else. Bottom line is that we decide what it takes to be successful, happy and so on

Success is different things for different people. For me it is about achieving what I set out to accomplish so that probably puts me in the 'getting what you want' camp.

    Good luck with your article.

Wanting what you get (sometimes) means getting what you want.

Wanting what you want and getting it is a success. It starts from your drive and through your actions you create opportunities to actually get what you want.

Getting what you want might mean that you are actually getting what you want but you did not even spend an inch of hardwork in order to get it. Some people are born rich, technically speaking. They may have all the things and wants in life, but to me they are not successful.

I think it depends on how children born with "silver spoons in their mouths" or "diamonds on the souls of their feet" respond.

Some use their inherited wealth to do good work, feed the hungry, educate, and do things to help others help themselves.

And others squander it, exploit others with it, self-sabatoge or even detroy themselves with it.

Inherited wealth can be like a loaded gun. It can detroy a child if they're not taught to use it wisely.
