90 day fitness challenge(Come and participate)

Hey Warriors! We have always heard that the human body is an amazing machine and an incredible creation that is superior to all other species, but we often doubt ourselves and our very lazy when it comes to somethings. This is where motivation comes in to play. I am starting a 90 day fitness challenge which starts today, 12/12/2011. Basically, during the 90 day period I will workout everyday and not eat any packaged junk food! No protein shakes, No gym memberships, and No medicine. I want to prove to everyone(especially one of my friends who has been nagging me about joining the gym with him and starting protein shakes(Not in this hard economy!)) that you can stay healthy, it should not cost you anything but small amount of time. Will keep this thread updated every couple days. Oh and would love to make some friends as well along the challenge. Good luck to all! Happy Holidays!!!

Great project.....You can do it! The protein powder does have its benefits, but you can get the protein from other sources (regular food) too. Keep us posted!

nice idea here, it really is that easy. All it takes is a plan and picking small battles everyday. I think that fitness and weight loss almost mirror IM in the sense that they are a process that doesn't happen overnight. They take consistency over a period of time to get results.

    Good luck.

Wow! Nice idea. Is it necessary to use protein powder? Can't you get protein from other sources?

It has been quite a day thus far..... This morning I replied to this thread that I was interested in joining for a few reasons. I wanted to attach my latest blog post because I feel it is relevant to the thread but I don't want to totally hijack the thread. If anyone feels this is the case then I will gladly start a new one. Here goes.

I figured that while sitting down watching the Notre Dame football game, it was as good of a time as any to give a weekly wrap up post and let everyone know what is going on. First things first. My virtual client, which you read about here is holding strong at her weight this week. She has been working diligently (or better be ) at lunges, bodyweight squats, push ups and burpees all week long. I am waiting back to hear how her mile run time goes and if she is able to shave any seconds off this week. She seems to be happy with her progress thus far and has a big boost of confidence.....she definitely should, she has been working really hard and is seeing results. I have to be honest here, I really enjoy this process. I enjoy seeing someone go from being unmotivated to sticking to a plan and working harder and harder. It's really fun to see someone succeed and fully "buy in" to a philosophy that will get results. Sometimes all it takes it to take action and if I am able to give that extra push to get someone off on the right path then I am more then happy to.

Her goals are based on push-ups and mile runs at the moment. I personally get motivated by her success and can't wait to see texts with decreasing mile times. To me, this is much bigger than fitness and weight loss. I know this sounds a little crazy but all of this is a small part of a bigger picture. We were just talking today about confidence and working out, how your confidence starts to snowball as you get into shape. I can't wait to see where this goes and what other aspects of her life it transfers into. I have said numerous times on this blog, whenever anything in my life was a mess (or I just felt it was) training seemed to help sort everything out on it's own.

It's true, you feel better about yourself and it is noticeable to others around you. If I could think of the greatest compliment in the world to give someone, it would be "exudes confidence." That is how I would want to be described.

I want people to become so confident that it practically oozes out their pores. I firmly believe that this all starts from taking care of yourself and responsibility for your health by training and exercising regularly with goals. If you can't take care of yourself what type of message does that really send? Are you capable of taking care of someone else? I want to give people the push to not only take care of themselves but teach you how to make major changes and become a badass.

Last night, while enjoying a few beers (which I don't feel bad about at all because I work hard enough to eat/drink what I want) I was talking to a friend about confrontation. She was talking about a particular incident that happened weeks ago where she wished she said something to another woman. Now in these situations my advice is horrible because I argue with everyone. I don't consider it arguing, but I definitely stand up for what I think is right 100% of the time. There are many people that don't like this, I simply do not care what they think because that is who I am now. I do need to tone it down a bit but we all are a work in progress. I try to be diplomatic at all times but sometimes you need to fight back a bit. I started to think about personalities and those that fight and those that tend to go with the flow and not ruffle feathers. We will call that taking the path of least resistance. These same people, who never fight back ( I'm not talking about assaulting everyone you see) also complain about a lot of other issues and I think I know why now.

Those of us that have the confidence to push ourselves in the gym and work for results know what it takes. We are tough both physically and mentally. When you are able to what I call "unleash your inner badass" and start running until you throw up, you change. When the fear of failure in meeting a goal results in you pushing yourself so hard that you almost black out....you become a little different than the rest of the people you know. For some, you might have always been able to do that, but for others this needs to be coaxed out. Regardless, once you have become very raw and animalistic in your workouts you start to act and think differently. You stand up for yourself.

It starts by taking a stand against yourself and not wanting to be mediocre anymore. You decided that you are important enough and you care enough to not be like everyone else anymore. You don't want to be sick and weak and complain about clothes fitting or carbs or other stupid problems. In fact, you kind of stop complaining about that stuff altogether. Why? It's weak and pointless. Plus, why complain when you already know the fix. Why complain altogether when you know that it won't get any results... You know that if you can be proactive for yourself, you can change ANYTHING else and solve your own problems.

This doesn't mean that we all don't need help now and then, we definitely do. But, we no longer become that burden of a friend that shows up and bitches constantly about everything in their life. We all know a person that complains about the same exact problems that we all have but are searching and hoping for someone to be an enabler and agree the world is against them.

You know what? It isn't against you! Even if it is....stop being a wimp and fight a little bit! No one said that anything would be easy, but unfortunately, all we want are quick and easy solutions.

I started to think more and more about the body types of these people and things became eerily apparent. The people that I know like this are slowly putting on weight and "giving up." They don't look healthy, they look sick and mopey. No confidence. I would be willing to bet that if they got stronger and in shape that would change.

The whole point of this rant is that when you are willing to fight for your health and your own well being through exercise you are willing to fight for anything. You have the sore muscles and joints to show it. Those are your battle scars that separate you from everyone else. Day in and day out you train and crush it, while the rest of the population sits around worrying about the next best diet and how to lose "a little weight" and whatever other stupid problems are out there, you can rest easy. You are a badass that has taken responsibility for yourself and taken a stand. If this sounds like you then I would love to hear more about it.

      End of rant.

Now, originally my contribution to the thread would be to follow me as I set a training block planning on breaking a specific squat goal by the time I turn 30.

As luck would have it (or lack thereof) I spent this morning in the ER after what I am hoping is a knee sprain and now an ACL tear from playing racquetball. This might become a 90 day journey on rehabbing a knee injury and getting back to full strength, I won't know until I get an MRI tomorrow.
