How To Beat Poverty Hands down

You are poor if you are unable to provide for yourself the basic necessities of life namely; food, clothing and shelter. You are said to be in a state of lack, want and hardship. There are dimensions of poverty ranging from financial, mental to spiritual.

The level of poverty in some parts of the world is a shame to humanity and it is unacceptable in the 21st century. If collective effort is made to equip people with knowledge and information, the global war against poverty would have started with its multiple dimension benefits.

All the factors responsible for a lot of people being poor today (causes of poverty) are related but not limited to:

  • SYSTEM FAILURE: This will come about as a result of inaptitude, bribery and corruption on the part of the ruling class.
  • DISASTER: If you are struck with either man made or natural disaster and there is nothing to fall back on, you are likely to become poor.
  • IGNORANCE: This leads to wrong priorities in life. To deal with this, pursue knowledge; invest in personal development through the 70/30 ratio principle. Value your time and associate with people who will add value to your life. Read books that will impact positively on your "money habits".
  • LACK OF PLANNING: You must plan your life, setting short and long time goals that are realistic. You must put in place a system for measuring progress.
  • LACK OF A SAVING CULTURE: You must try and spend less than you earn. In other words do not live above your means. Shy away from credit facilities as much as possible. What you save will keep you. The 70/30 ratio principle applies here too. This calls for financial discipline. Invest what is saved to create wealth.
  • LACK OF FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE: You need to always take educated buying decisions. Live smart. Acquire assets instead of liabilities. Delay gratification.
  • IGNORANCE OF PROSPECTS: Some people are poor because of lack of "mindsight". They hold on to one job forever for fear of the unknown. They reason that outside their comfort zone are man eating conditions. They lack success driven mental principles. They are ignorant of their self worth.

The fact is; you should see personal development as a continuous exercise towards self-actualization and by extension, national growth. As a sine qua non for success, not less than 10% of what you earn should be invested on personal development, another 10% saved for wealth creation. For those who believe, a third 10% should go to your maker while the remaining 70% should take care of your expenses.

If you are not able to apply the 70/30 ratio principle because your income is small, you won't be able do it on a bigger income. All it takes is discipline and determination to succeed. The odds may be intimidating but the fight against poverty must be won.
