What are your favorite Self Help Books?

I love anything on the Law of Attraction, I loved The Laws of Thinking by Bernard Jordan, I like anything by Gary Zukav, Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield. I also really like Hannah Keeley's Total Mom Makeover which is for moms and focuses on life in general rather than business. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, I know I am forgetting some...

I'm looking for good abundance/wealth attracting titles. And perhaps anxiety relief/confidence building books. Stuff like that.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

My favorite right now is Harmonic Wealth by James Arthur Ray. It talks about the Law of Attraction. What I really like is that is focuses not only on financial wealth, but wealth in other areas of your life as well. (Physical, spiritual, relationships, etc) I want to own successful businesses and I want financial wealth, but I don't want to sacrifice my relationships and my spirituality to get there. This book was a great eye opener for me. It is possible to be wealthy in all areas of your life. Hope you enjoy the book!

Frogs into princes - Bandler, Grinder <- awesome insight into human mind
A new earth - Tolle <- great for anxiety relief
Psycho-Cybernetics - Maltz <- the science of personality change
Think and grow rich - Hill <- good mindsets

Those are in the very top.

I keep going back to Power Of Positive Thinking when I get a bit dark. But I was raised a catholic so it agrees with what I learned as a kid. When I am going good I like pretty much anything by Dan Kennedy or Stuart Wilde.

Recently I have been doing a lot of testing and research on the process of forgiveness (mainly of self), it really is amazing some of the results I am seeing and guess what, when I reread all the classics it shows up everywhere.

Top of the list for me is "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.
It is a short, easy read in which the main character is in search of his fortune. Many of the great lessons of life are revealed along the journey.

I'm a huge fan of Secrets of the millionaire mind by Harv Eker.
I think he has a simple yet breakthrough approach to the topic of making money and removing barriers to success.

Also "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.

I think a lot of people relate well to video which is why the secret works so well because it was released in DVD form first.

Speaking of video I am going through Bill Bartman's Billionaire course. It's really good!
            Billionaire Business Systems

The course is only 100bucks and all the videos are great. (well the ones I've seen so far)

Needless to say, I'm not an affiliate of any of these. I don't know if they have any kind of aff program.

An author that I don't often see mentioned in these forums, and yet has been hugely influential, is Jane Roberts.

Have a look at the early pages of some of the Hicks' (Esther & Jerry) books and you'll find Jerry's acknowledgment that, after having success with "Think and Grow Rich" (Napoleon Hill) in the 1960s, they moved on to the work of Jane Roberts in the 70s.

After Roberts died in the mid 80s, they mourned the loss, but were fortunate in that Esther soon began to produce her own material. This is not a copy of Roberts' work, but is consistent with the teachings it contains.

Subsequently a television producer (Rhonda Byrnes) asked the Hicks "to allow her to build a television show around our work. She brought her film crew onboard one of our Well-Being Adventure Cruises (shipboard seminars) and filmed the heart of her production around our workshop there on the ship. However, because of a series of fortuitous events, the movie evolved into a DVD format before its Australian network-television airing, and as a result, the project became an enormous success. Millions of people around the world have viewed it." As readers will be aware, the DVD and TV show was called "The Secret". The quote is from the preface to Hicks' book, "The Astonishing Power of Emotions".

The best introduction to the work of Jane Roberts is "The Seth Material". The content is beautifully written and I found it to be immensely stimulating. I normally read fairly quickly but, although it is not a big book - about 300 pages - it took me several weeks to finish as I found it so thought provoking.

The two books which immediately followed - "Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul" and "The Nature of Personal Reality" contain the heart of this philosophy. Later books expand on this.

Roberts' work looks at concepts not explored by the Hicks material (such as past lives and time) and, because of this, many may find the work of Esther and Jerry easier to understand and apply. However, serious explorers of this field will enjoy and benefit from what Roberts has to offer.

Most of the published works of Jane Roberts seem to be available through Amazon.

Wayne Dyer has a ton of good stuff.

His book "Power of Intention" changed my life.
He also has a series called..."It's Never Crowded Along the Extra Mile"

Og Mandino is also pretty incredible.

His book "The Greatest Secret in the World" is pretty unique.
He has 10 "scrolls"...they are about 3-4 pages only, but you read them 3x's per day for a month. You then move onto the next scroll the next month. It really drives the valuable information home. Life changing!

Since my dad was a salesman (drug detailman and then an insurance underwriter) I practically grew up with Og Mandino, "Greatest Salesman In the World." Later on, though not along the same line as Mandino, I added other books as well: Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet", Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and "Illusions". I keep re-reading these books because I keep forgetting the fine points. You won't forget the lessons of perseverance.

"Conversations with GOD" Book 1,2 and 3.

More than 50 Million copies sold worldwide, read them all and find out why...

They'll open your heart and open your mind,
and to all the questions you have, the answers you'll find.
Like, "why does God make, the richer, more richer?"
You'll see it's the same as he makes, the poor more poorer...

But the main non contradicting, contradiction, that you will soon see,
is God is not God, but he's you and he's me.

            The everything of nothing,
            and the many of one.

You should go read the books,
            Im sure you'll have fun.

I have read most of the above books *shock* but I found the one tool that really transformed my life and finally got me off my butt for good, was the Tony Robbins Personal power II audio program and workbook.

I know you asked for books, but unless it is supported by a 'workbook' system that includes daily action work/coaching... (for at least 30 days committment to action) ..the books just dont 'stick' enough to make lifetime changes.

I have a massive library, yet only a handfull of those books had any permanent results in me for me.... but the PPII COACHING system did the job. I have never looked back since.

I think he (the author) pretty much espouses where we aspire to be in terms of financial freedom and lifestyle, and the book is excellent for helping you keep your eyes on the prize when the going gets tough.

Has anyone read anything by Orison Swett Marden? If not, begin with "Peace, Power & Plenty" and/or "Every Man A King".

I enjoy reading him, because it shows that most of our "new" ideas really aren't. His phraseology might not be all that pc (politically correct), but anyone who can overlook that can't help but feel uplifted after reading "him".

Anything that will help you to feel more empowered, more positive, and inspire you to be a good person is a good read.

There are so many fabulous books out there that, for me, it's difficult to decide which are my favorites. Many have already been mentioned here.

One that I highly recommend is "The Magic in Your Mind" by U.S. Anderson.

I've read several books by U.S. Anderson and have found them all to be life-changing.

I wonder where you got a copy of Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz. I tried to get one and since it's out of print they want 2-3 hundred for a copy?

I don't want to try and start a new thread here, but I wonder which of these many books do you all feel actually changed your life for the better?

I've ready many many of these but my life hasn't really changed much, (I'm sad to say)

The Bible has had the most effect on me, I am definitely a better person for studying it, more understanding, kinder, more patient, more generous. Still plenty of room for improvement though.

My Son loves Steven Covey's 7 secrets of successful people and it has helped him a lot.

I think I need to pick one, and work it to death, like one of you mentioned, read and re-read it and seriously follow the teachings. The fact that many of us have read 10-15 or more of these books suggests that none of them have done very much good. I think I'm searching for the "Magic Solution" that's just going to turn me into the most efficient, hardest working, money making guy on the planet. What do you think??

"The Power of Positive Thinking" - Norman Vincent Peale

"How to Win & Influence People" - Dale Carnegie

Currently reading Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth", it's one of "Oprah's book club" books. Seems like a very controversial book but just start reading. Feel it's quite deep in terms of content.

Anyways, there's a magazine called SUCCESS. Lots of great reads in there, it's a monthly magazine and there's a dual disc inside each issue. The discs are seriously great value! Everyone should start reading it.

Wishcraft, by Barbara Sher, was the book (more than 25 years ago now) that got me off my duff and on the road to what has, so far, been a pretty exciting and interesting life. I still use her backward-planning flow chart whenever I have a big project to complete.

She wrote another book a couple years ago called Refuse to Choose which is a big help to people like me with 'too many interests'.

I've read most of the other books mentioned and gone through various kinds of training (Psych-K is the latest one-- and I've found it quite helpful) -- but the only ones that matter in the long run are the ones that help me in the slow process of learning to recognize and pay attention to my own 'voice'.

I like this stuff - but it's repetitious and long on exercises,
short on practical ways to make money.

If you don't do personal development to make more money
that's cool... I do that too. Few authors really cover
spiritual develoment/psychological maturity and the nuts
and bolts of getting money well. Maybe Stuart Wilde - but
he's still rooted in metaphysical thinking so it's all "how to
think and be", not "here's how to get people to buy stuff".

From a non-money perspective my most influential books
are probably those of B.K.S. Iyengar - "Light on Yoga" and
"Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali"

For making money it's all direct marketing and salesmanship
lit for me. Dale Carnegie's stuff is great for selling as is
a lot of the positive thinking stuff.

In the end it's a lot easier to feel positive if you feel good
in your body. Get enough rest, exercise, reduce toxic habits
and eat a balanced diet heavy on vegetables and light on
sugar and you'll find it a lot easier to be effective and happy.

          I have lost count of the amount of books that I have read on this subject over the years, but here are a few of my favourites anyway;

Anthony Robbins- awaken the giant within
          James Ray -harmonic wealth
          Jack Canfield-the success principles

          I also have to mention the book that I am currently reading, I notice a few people have mentioned that before but really it is worth looking at if you haven't already;

A lot of my favourites are already up there, but one classic I love (even the title is a form of self-help!) is called "Procrastinate Later" by Dr Michael Bernard.

I'm also having fun trying to get the 4 hour workweek applied in my rigidly rule bound government job.

Anything Dan Millman (esp Way of the Peaceful Warrior), Pat Mesiti (Wake up & dream), Rich Dad series (I love Rich Woman), Jack Canfield (Success Principles), Mark Victor Hansen (One Minute Millionaire is a brilliant read) are all good.

Probably the least well known ones that I love are:
"Don't Bitch, Just Get Rich" by Toney Fitzgerald, and
"When they Zig, You Zag" by Siimon Reynolds.
Yes, both of them have unconventional first names, not typos.

    Hi Angela

One that I read once which I never hear people quote but was very life changing for me was by Susan Jeffers and called "End the Struggle and Dance with Life" subheading - "How to build yourself up when the world gets you down"

It really makes you look at things in a different and more appreciative way. And they say that gratitude brings more of what we want and appreciate!
