My LONG road to success
I will tell you something that is amazing. I started online in 1996 and got interested in IM in 97. I wrote an ebook about that time and it dint sell ANY. I don't care now as it was likely rehashed crap at the time. I didnt know how to SEO or anything, so basically I was just running off at the mouth.
What made it so bad is I was on Disability welfare, currently still am for the last months, the LAST months finally. Now comes more of this. I had been making websites and Wordpress sites and installing scripts with MySQL databases for the last few years. Also I have debugged scripts and made them work.
I had a bad thing happen to me for nearly 2 years in the last years up till last week. I had forgotten how to implement these skills for actual freelancing. I just didn't have the assumed stability in my mind to actually put them to good use. I was scared that I would get a job and not be able to actually DO the job.
Finally I had forgotten about these skills.
I rediscovered them while working for someone on another forum for installing and setting up a Wordpress for someone. I just realized after I did that I really did have skills.
A bright and PROFITABLE ray of light came. I suddenly remembered oDesk! I had forgotten about oDesk after getting fed up with article writing that didn't pay good. I thought my only real marketable skill was dealing with articles. Heck, I knew that for what seems like 2 years.
Trapped in my brain and forgotten were the mysql database and Wordpress and PHP fixing and modifying skills, as well as script installation skills. I didn't even SEE them in my brain, they were SO covered in dust.
Wiping the dust off, I thought,"Now really! Are these really MARKETABLE?!". Proceeding to oDesk.com after dusting these off and examining them in my brain, I went to oDesk and searched Wordpress needs. OMG! I found the need was overwhelming! I also found some jobs requesting script installs. I thought "Now you have died and gone to Heaven!".
I was in AWE! After I had dusted the thick, thick layer of dust off of those skills in a "dusty,grey dropcloth covered room" in my brain, I could NOT believe those skills were marketable. These skills had collected an UNBELIEVABLE amount of dust, they had lain there forgotten for so long.
The payments from these jobs ranged from $90 to over 5K! I was in SHOCK! The median price was from 250 to 500+ dollars. That was MEDIAN price alone! I KNEW I had hit paydirt.
The skills that were stuck in my brain and not yet thought about were actually very marketable! I was awed by what people were paying for my skills. I had actually RACKED my brain for marketable skills for 2 years! Yes, I racked it a lot. Funny, the skills were just under tons of dust and "File Not Found error".
Now that I have dusted off these skills, I have landed a 1 Thousand dollar job in 4 days of odesk applying. Likely will be off welfare in July or next December.
