Is Google about to kill SEO SOON?

Google will never kill SEO. Do you know why?

Contrary to what most people might think, Google will never kill SEO. In some respects and to some extent Google even likes SEO. Why?

Ever wondered why Google keyword tool etc is free?
They themselves provide the door to their secrets, to tweak them. They don't have to. Very few people would get them if they don't. But they want a level playing field and those who are good deserve page 1. That is why.
They don't need to provide these details, traffic details etc. But they want only good people to make it to the top and that requires a level playing field. That is why Google does this.

How do you think Google Adsense and Adwords tweak themselves without letting you know?
When the best people know which ads are going to make the most amount of money, they choose only them and in doing so not only they but Google too makes money. It is a WIN ALL situation for everybody.
If you need to guess in the dark and don't know how to compete, you will never make money for all those keywords and nor will Google. And Google definitely doesn't want that.

Yes, Google does dislike overestimating or overvaluing a website through SEO. And thus BlueFart tricks and lots of other techniques are slowly getting banned or at least losing their value with time. It doesn't encourage SEO in all respects, only the part which is good for the people.

Google wants a content driven Internet, be it in the form of articles or videos, but quality content which is valued by people. And if you bring quality to the table through something of value, you will forever stay in business.

Yes, SEO and other forms of search engine marketing will never go away. What google is trying to get rid of is manipulating organic search results with black hat methods. You can see how Google is trying to steer businesses towards adwords vs organic results by not allowing them to see what organic keywords visitors are coming from.

I'm not sure I agree that SEO will never go away.

At its most basic Optimisation suggests that if you take two pieces of identical content A and B, if A is optomised in a way that the search engine prefers then it will present that data before B.

Essentially this works because Search Engines cannot "read" the content that is being presented to them. Instead they look for clues which indicate the relevancy of the content.

Work is being done now to create search engines that will be able to read web pages in much the same way as humans can. At that point it would be like comparing two pages torn from a book, there will be no meta data to optomise, links would not count and SEO at least as it is currently concieved would be irrelevant.

Google itself only exists because it currently presents relevant information in the most effecient manner. The moment it ceases to do that it will be replaced.

As I said, SEO will never go away. Even if Google can read content, value content will get priority. Optimizing the content to make it more readable and more attractive and seem like more value will become a new form of SEO then.

It may not as mechanical as it is now, but some form of improvising will always be there

Weaving has some valid points. I still come across so many websites that are poorly optimised. I work with web developers every single day. About 50 percent of web developers dont give a .....about SEO they are more about building the website and then making them functional and look pritty. A good analagy I use when talking about our shipping platform is that it takes one person to build the bridge and another to paint it. My point is SEO will not go away as so many sites are still not geared towards seo - Not many people get addicted like us warriors to strive each day to get that one position higher. If your not looking for the tools you will not find them.

All valid points everyone has. I have been keeping close look at Google and my take is, if anything SEO will keep changing thus making everything more professional. Kind of cleaning things up.

SEO simply can't die as the search engines use an alghorytm to rank sites. If they want to kill it all should be done manually and thats just undoable.

About the Google keyword tool, isn't that one purely created to serve there Adwords advertisers and aren't we hugely abusing it?

Google can't skill SEO, they invented it. They're constantly reinventing and refining it and as they do, the spammers and the people who try to game the system are dropping life flies, leveling the playing field for the people who are creating genuine value. It makes me happy.
