Your Opinion: Regroup, Retreat or Turn up the Heat?

Think fast ... When faced with failure. What do you tend to do?
  • Regroup?
  • Retreat?
- Or -
  • Turn up the heat?
Think, dig deep. The answers you come up with may surprise you (there's potential ah - ha moments if you do).

For example, I tend to regroup and lick my wounds. And consider the remaining risk/reward ratio to determine whether I'll turn up the heat or retreat and cut my losses.

If I'm facing failures right now, I should heal my wounds to regroup myself. I've been in a lot of painful experiences in the past few years with failures, so I just regroup myself to heal it and correct the mistakes that I've done in the past.

Thanks for sharing, so how do you regroup yourself. For example, do you have a support system you draw on for inspiration? Do you examine what you did wrong, didn't do enough of or where you came up short? Or do you keep it moving to the next project?

I think it depends on what the circumstances are. There are probably times to do each of those.

Turning off the computer? That's a major challenge for most people, including me. Especially when you're in the thick of things.

That's harder than turning off the Blackberry. But you're spot on, that's one of the best things to do when you're trying to regroup. But an often overlooked step. Good point. In today's technology jungle ... the simple things are often overlooked.

Regroup and get going again. I've failed and succeeded more times than I would care to count in my lifetime. You have to just keep going and learn from the failures. Unfortunately, life is full of learning experiences!

Regrouping is always best but some times turning up the heat and fighting
      through is good as well.

I have failed at so many things in my short lifetime, as a result, I lived in Isolation and fear of failure, which made me struggle with perfectionism and performance. However, 4 years ago, I turned over a new leaf, and now when I face failure, I take a good long hard look at what lessons are to be learned, I have a strong support group that help me see what I might not see, and I also take time for self reflection. I believe I posted in the inspirational thread that it's not about if I fail, because I will, it's about what I learn from it and how I respond to it that determines my success. So all of this to say, I regroup, then discern what the next right thing is, and if it happens to be cranking up the fire, then that's what I'll do

You made a smart move by avoiding isolation and getting with a strong support group. One of the easiest things to do is isolate yourself when facing failure or major diffulty, especially use macho men. I know that was my story too ... until I wised up.
