This morning I took 15 minutes for Exercise. Feel FRESH !

I just want to share.
If I remember corrently, my last exercise was 6 months ago.

Since then, my routine was :
1. Sleep
2. Eat
3. Work
4. S***

This morning, when cloud stil dark, I said to myself, this is a do or die.

If I don't walk today, I'm going to die soon.
If not, hopefully I don't die because of obesity

So, I took 15 minutes to walk and I'm now happier than before.

I feel so tired but FRESH !

I would encourage warriors, to have a walk. Even short one.
Like my wife would say, "It's a good start". :p

All the best !

Regards;
Raja Kamil

Taking note :
From 11811 - keep up
From ProScribe - never miss out on your daily exercise

Cool stuff Raja, I always like your posts.

First thing I do every morning is go for a run. It's maybe a little hard when you are getting started but once you develop the habit it's harder to not do it than do it.

It sets you up feeling great for the day and you never miss out on your daily exercise.

I went for a run this morning with my dog, and tripped over his leash. I've grazed my knee and elbow and am feeling a bit sore and sorry.

I agree though, exercise is the best way to start the day.

Audrey - I tripped a couple of weeks ago when I was out running and the worst thing is not only does it hurt you still have to get home again.

Raja - Cool to see you took a note, I've been to Malaysia a couple of times - Penang and Kualua Lumpar, I really loved it, it's a beautiful country.

I'm no expert but I would think that, to get the true benefit, you need to exercise daily. How do you motivate yourself to do that and then avoid the boredom?

I am a serial procrastinator and for years I had been avoiding jog but recently I started a novel technique to keep myself motivated. I imagine myself healthy and fit and correlate it with jogging and on the other side I correlate correlate avoiding jog with poor health and obese. This way my mind is always charged up. Initially such an activity seems boring but the moment one month passes then it will becomepart of your life and routine. Try it and feel the pleasure.

An easy way is to get an exercise buddy.

The best way to do that is to set up an exercise schedule where on certain days at certain times you meet a friend to walk/jog/run or whatever TOGETHER.

That way you feel obligated to meet with your friend and they feel the same obligation to you. On days that you don't feel like going they can motivate you to be there and vice versa.

Plus it also negates the boredom of exercising on your own.

Take good care of those that you love...and that should mean yourself too Raja

Walking is one of the first things I do in the morning. I normally walk for about 20-30 minutes. It's a great way to start your day, have some alone time, and just think about what you are going to do the rest of the day. To avoid the boredom or change things up, I'll pick different locations to walk. One thing I like to do is walk in neighborhoods with more expensive homes than mine. Helps to give me a little more motivation and something to work towards.

Hey I must say that you have taken the best step of your life. I took a similar step couple of weeks back. Stress and workload was killing day by day, when the situation was such that if I don't start jogging, I would soon lying on bed, I decided to go for regular job and medication and since then I must it was the best decision of my life. I can't be more happier than this. Every morning when I go for jog, I end up motivating myself to grow. I think everyone must exercise regularly or at least go for morning walks.

      Want to be healthier?

"Then take this pill bottle, walk 1.5 miles from your front door, set it down and walk home."

So says Dr. Charles Runel in his free podcast on itunes, The #1 Secret of Health, Sex, & Weight Loss - iTunes - Podcasts - Charles Runels, MD by Unknown

Here is his "salesletter"...Weight Loss Secret | Obesity | Easy | Guaranteed

      Interesting tidbits from the recording...

-You run three miles and I'll walk 3 miles, you'll burn only 5-10% more calories (and in 3 years my knees will be in much better shape)

-Research has shown walking 1 mile, three times a day or 1.5 miles twice a day is more beneficial than 3 miles one time.

-Walking outside is preferable but a treadmill is acceptable too.

-Should you walk more than 3 miles a day? Studies have shown that injuries increase logarithmically if you walk over 25 miles a week. Rate of injury walking 21 miles a week is about the same as sitting on the couch.

I use the Endomondo app to track distance, time etc. although he encourages not worrying about time/heart rate/pace...just go three miles or workup to it slowly if you are very sedentary.

They say that the best exercise is the one you will actually do. This one couldn't be easier and you can use the time to listen to great audios....or watch TV on the treadmill.

      Enjoy!

If you can keep it up and always strive for more, pretty soon, it just becomes who you are.

I can honestly say I'm a runner. Not because it's something I have to do or something I want to do. It's just who I am. I do it now without thinking, without hesitation. If I have time, I'm doing something healthy. If not, I don't feel guilty because I know it's coming soon.

Keep up the dedication. You will become what you already are.

  • When you get up in the morning drink 2 - 16oz glasses of good old H2O...

It will flush out toxins and re-calibrate your blood chemistry.

When you fill a hunger pang or twinge drink a glass of water at least 8oz. It will settle that hunger for a bit and you won't eat as much when you do a 1/2 hour or so later.

But when you are hungry eat!, and drink some water after every several bites.

Water is your friend and after doing this several days your body will get a natural thirst for water back.

If you do this for a while your weight will start to stabilize at what it should naturally be for you physical build. If you are over weight you will gradually lose it. Aches, pains, headaches and cramps will lessen.

Just this one thing that is painless and almost effortless will really change your health in a positive way.

So easy, I know it works but I still have to focus on it at times.

Try it before you knock it. It sure is easy enough and the price is right!

(Now on the other hand don't go overboard and drink gallons of water all at once thinking if some water is good then a lot is better. Water overdose will kill you! It will dilute the electrolytes and sodium in you blood and brain, cause cells to rupture and explode and cause your brain to swell crushing the portion of the brain in the base of your skull that controls most major body functions like breathing and your heart. I say this as a disclaimer and I am not a doctor and you should assume I am a raving lunatic. Overdose is not easy to do as your kidneys will normally not allow it. You have to exceed your kidney function to do it.)

I just started a walking program too Raja! I don't always walk outside since I live in the Mid-West and we're under a Winter Storm Warning but I do use DVDs to walk.

Leslie Sansone has several DVDs that are walk-at-home workouts for those times when you can't walk outside due to weather or time. The one mile walks/power walks range in time from 10-15 minutes and include resistant bands and hand weights to get a full body workout while walking.

thats an excellent start. You don't necessarily need a gym. Just do something to get your heartbeat going for a few minutes. That and a glass for cold water can do what no cup of coffee can ever do. If you can finish with a cold shower, you will feel really fresh. Takes some serious will power to take a cold shower right after waking up, especially in the winter

Exercise has enhanced my life in so many ways. Taking walks is excellent for your physical health but also for you mental health. Its so nice to get out of the house and clear my head. You also shouldn't shy away from weight bearing exercise. You don't have to join a gym as there are plenty of body weight exercises out there. Seeing the changes in the physique of your body really help bring up my mood when I have the blues.

    Hey Raja,

Just to add a bit more to the water information provided by Old Dog.

When most overweight people feel thirsty they are actually dehydrated and should drink a 250ml glass of water and lo and behold the hunger pang goes away.

To give you all an idea of how much fluid you need EACH day multiply your body weight in kilos by 35ml so a 100kg person would need about 3.5 litres of fluid or about 14 x 250ml glasses. In imperial measure that would be 14 x 8oz glass for a 225lb person or 0.5oz per pound of weight.

It is also important to use a measuring jug to find out exactly how much your favourite cup /glass / water bottle / sports bottle holds.

Of course milk on your cereal and fruit juice (preferable freshly squeezed as the bottle stuff is full of fructose or sugar) and vegetable juice all count towards your daily intake.

One way to keep hydrated is to have a reset type timer alongside your computer and set it for say an hour and when it goes off get up from the computer and drink a glass of water or herbal tea and have a healthy snack of a few almonds or a stick of celery or a carrot, so not only are you re-hydrating but you are stopping the hunger with a SMALL snack of good food.

Oh BTW coffee does not count as a re-hydration drink. In fact it is a diuretic and forces you to urinate more thereby taking extra fluid out of your body. Some say that you need to add in 3 glasses of water to compensate for 1 cup of coffee so if you are drinking 4 cups of coffee a day then you need to add quite a few EXTRA glasses of fluid per day.

If you are interested do an on-line search for "the water cure" and you will find both free and paid information available to help increase your knowledge of what these marvellous bodies, which we each have been given, need.

As Old Dog said, don't overdo it and increase your intake of water SLOWLY over a period of weeks so your body can get used to the changes.

Also like Old Dog I am not in the medical or healing profession and I don't know what your state of health is and what medication you may be taking so please do your own research, consult with your Doctor / Specialist and make your own informed decisions BEFORE doing anything.

Take good care of those that you love.

I've taken multiple long distance backpacking trips and I can say that for me the act of being outdoors and hiking through spectacular scenery is the single most important thing that has kept me grounded throughout the years when I start to feel overwhelmed with too much work or the city life.

I now live in a small town that supports an urban trail system and try to take a half hour walk at least 5 times a week. There's nothing better for clearing out your mind. It's therapy in movement...
