This is a true story.

There were two little boys playing on a frozen lake and despite the warning signs of thin ice, one boy fell through and was trapped and couldn't get out.

His friend was trying to save him, but he couldn't. He could see him through the thin ice, but he couldn't help him... So he ran to the nearest tree, climbed it, and broke off an enormous branch. Then, he ran back to his friend and started breaking the ice with the branch and finally managed to pull him out of the water.

When the paramedics came, they were baffled as to how this young little boy could rip off such an enormous branch, and THEN break the ice with it to help his friend. They just couldn't see how it was possible.

Then an elderly man who was there said: I know how he did it. They asked him how.

The man said: "There was noone to tell him he couldn't."

Along the same thesis, in Born To Run, the author talks about a 90-something year old Mexican man running/hiking/etc. Why? Because society never told him he couldn't.

    Aren't societal expectations great?

Makes me wonder what else we could do without the naysayers.

Listening to the naysayers and over-thinking a situation is a definite hindrance to action...

In the story above, if the boy had been told he couldn't do anything to help his friend, or if he had stopped to really think about it, if he had entertained the thought that he was too small, or too weak, or not smart enough to save his friend, his friend would have drowned.
Instead he took action - he didn't think about anything except what was in front of him, acting on instinct instead of thinking it to death.

Listening to the naysayers and over-thinking your situation will kill your creativity and stop you dead in your tracks.

When the naysayers start to spew their poison, it's best to indulge your inner child, stick your fingers in your ears and say "lalalala ....I can't hear you!"

Ah, yes. Over thinking a situation. Have I ever been guilty of that in several areas of my life. You give wise advice, Obi-Wan.

    ??

Ask people who know me: They'll say I don't really care about nebulous societal expectations (okay, they wouldn't word it like that...).

Oh well, people who think outside the box -- or don't have one -- move forward while others are essentially placeholders.

Inspiring story!Mental power is enormous. It is our belief system which holds us back.I have heard about people whose poison didn't spread after a poisonous snake's bite until they reached hospital and started their treatment and got well soon.

The mind has amazing power, mostly untapped.

I saw on the news this morning where a study was done on pain.

They put wrist wraps on the participating individuals that emanated heat that caused pain.

Some they gave intellectuals tests to do and others a cream they said had a pain reliever, but didn't.

Both felt less pain, both were using the mind, but in different arenas.

      Distraction and belief!

I agree completely! If you have the idea in your mind that maybe you can't do it or it may not work, it corrodes your efforts. We can all do great things and surprise ourselves. We must never allow negativity to enter our minds and stay there. I think the right mind set is one of the most integral parts of online marketing, and protecting and nurturing your mind set is a necessity.

Well said Allen. We have a quote here that says: "It is then when one starts to doubt his ideals, that he begins to die inside."

This is a very good example of how powerful our abilities are. When all our powers are combines, it is very powerful and we can really accomplish things that seemed impossible. The powers I am talking about are mental powers, physical powers, emotional powers and even spiritual powers. When these powers all work together to accomplish a common goal, the impossible is just for the naysayers.
