Positive thinking... with a twist

A positive idea will usually kill a negative one. I have found that the best way to stop thinking negatively when things are not going as planned is to fill your mind with positive thoughts and concentrate on what is going right. The negatives will automatically find an exit.

Yes, that's true. Postpone decisions until you're feeling decent.

Positive and negative thoughts are like light and darkness. Click on the light switch, and the dark has to get lost.

Key is remembering that you can change your thoughts, and not be a slave to them.

It is if you internalise it - scientists have discovered that our immune systems are suppressed for up to 8 hours after an outburst of undisposed anger!

Negative thoughts are just like fear, they will never go away completely; The difference is the degree in which the negative thought emotionally affects the individual.
If I have a negative thought, I recognise it is just a thought, it is not that helpful and get on with making my thoughts more productive with what I am doing. For example; I do a talk and it is bombing & say to myself "this talk sucks"- now I acknowledge that and ask myself "how can I make it better".

So it hasn't affected me but if I have a negative thought and then assign a meaning to it and as a result feel bad that is when a negative thought has significance. ("this talk sucks, they are going to laugh at me, Im such a rubbish speaker, I feel horrible")

Yes, very true. The mind, although it appears to be able to think of many things at once, actually thinks of only one thing at a time.

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, your life will go much better if you postpone even small decisions until you feel better.

      Love the light switch analogy.

Yes, angry would be negative. Anything emotion that doesn't feel good is negative.

Yes, if you put your attention on the negative, you get more negative. It works much better and faster to find something good about it.

I have found that if you can find a little bit better feeling thought that helps.

If you can think 70 - 80% of the time about what is good in your life, things go better.

Too often people default to punishing, berating or defaming themselves. It's a "motivation" style that doesn't work for long and eventually leads to misery.

Be mindful of internal messages, both positive and negative. Learning to communicate with yourself in a supportive and encouraging way is one of the keys to being a successful, effective individual.

True. Your own self talk can have a bigger impact on your success than you might think.

Yes! Keep doing that! If you do this on a regular basis, you will turn your subconscious thought into positive and you will not have to correct it anymore. When you can achieve this, your life will become even more amazing than it already is!

Here is another scientific study about positive thinking:

Barbara Frederickson, Ph.D., has been studying positive emotions for over 20 years.

According to Frederickson, when we experience a positive emotion our thinking expands.

(Negative emotions, on the other hand, narrow our thinking.)

"We literally see more," she says, "allowing us to face our problems with clear eyes, make creative connections and see more possible solutions for problems."

Frederickson has named this the "broaden effect."

Additionally, says Frederickson, as we make a habit of seeking out positive emotions we change and grow for the better.

We discover and build new skills, new knowledge and new ways of being that allow us to live healthier and happier (the build effect).

"Positivity presents an opportunity to step up to the next level of existence, to broaden your mind and build your best self," says Frederickson.Healthier and happier.

According to current research, those who practice a steady diet of positive emotions:

    * Report fewer aches and pains, headaches and other physical symptoms.
They also have lower blood pressure, fewer colds and sleep better.

    * Are better able to rebound from adversity and stress. Positive emotions create a calming effect in your body that can lower blood pressure, dissipate stress energy and lift your mood.

    * Develop more positive and closer relationships with others. They tend to have more friends and a larger social network to rely on during crises.

    * Become more optimistic, more resilient, less depressed and more satisfied with life.

    :-)

Having a troubled mind is like a a muddied water on the river. You have to wait for the mud to subside so that you can get a clear water, hence getting the best decision. Do not ever make a haste decision when you are in negative mood or else what you get is a muddied water.

That is very good advice. I don't even like to make major decisions of I'm hungry or overly tired, either.

But are the negatives exit lasting?

I used to do that and it worked for a short time. Then I did the "swish method" mentioned in Tony Robbins Unlimited Power book and it worked for 3 months. Then I went back to over eating chocolate.

But when using EFT, it's lasting. Far better, easier and fast.

I think I remember using the "swish method" but you have to remember to do it but with EFT you are actually eliminating old mental and energic patterns of thought and so once they are changed, they are changed for good.

EFT is phenomenal and I use it all the time for anything and everything.
