What's holding you back?

Lack of self-confidence? Procrastination? Something else?

I'd love to know what are your self-imposed barriers to success? Then I will put together a free WSO (or free to this forum) to help people deal with the most common issues.

Over to you!

Hi Nic. My personal roadblocks have been shiny object syndrome and procrastination.

I've been working hard to overcome them lately, and things are DEFINITELY looking up.

Thanks for taking the time to create a product that meets people's needs!

For me it's a lack of self confidence and a lack of self discipline. I'm really good at coming up with a plan to succeed, but then I don't follow through with it.

It seems like I never have enough time.
Whatever I do, I'm always left with that feeling of "I haven't done enough today".
I guess I wish things were going faster than they are right now... But as long as I'm moving, it's still something, right?

Everyday problems. When I get bored I start taking action, but I don't like going into something knowing I didn't resolved other problems, so I'm like this - start this, finish it, start that, finish it etc.

Hi, Nic: I would say that one of my roadblocks to greater success is a lack of focused focus. I think I try to be too many things and do too many things and as a result, instead of making big progress in one area, I make only small progress in several areas.

I believe this is a stage that many aspiring entrepreneurs go through. We first need to get educated, then experienced, then competent and then focused (if we haven't been focused from the beginning).

For some of us, before we can fine tune our focus, we need to find out what's out there and how to do it. Then we can chose what we most want to do and achieve.

      For me:
      - putting loads of effort, time and money into what I've chosen and having it not work (as a complete newbie, I've chosen to be an amazon affiliate but it seems to be saturated, every niche I come up with already has sites promoting it which is discouraging me and questioning whether it's worth continuing)
      - as a complete (older) newbie, the technical side (like actually creating a website that works!)
      -feeling overwhelmed

These issues have led to doubt and fear (of trying yet something else that will fail).

For me, I lack confidence to follow through on projects. I usually come up with detailed plans and ideas yet get half-way through them and end up quitting because I see the competition as "better" than me when in fact some are better and others are not.

Every time I sit at my computer to begin to work I get so overwhelmed by the many things I could do but don't completely understand I end up browsing the internet and wasting my time away. Its really frustrating to even type that out.

Great question, for me its the time. I believe strongly in exercising and meditating everyday. Then there are so many shiny objects out there with a million other marketers telling you they have the best method. So I am only studying a few areas of IM now but need to put forth more action.

    So, summarising the above:

    Self-Confidence
    Procrastination
Focus (and avoiding bright shiny thing syndrome)/self-dscipline
    Time management/Goal Setting
    Positive mental attitude

Seem to be the themes to emerge - apologies if I've left anything out, let me know!

      Summed up very nicely Nic,

Imagine how much potential we could unleash if we had all of the above under control ;-)

Time. I still have to work a 9-5 and the 1+ hour drives going to work and home make me lose 11 hours of my workdays.

I have 2 IM businesses I need to focus on (niche websites and comedy videos) and it's tough to decide on which one to work on when I get home.

    Nic,

I would add a lack of vision and a burning desire "Why". This often is the underlying cause for many of the other "issues" people have raised in this thread. You see it on the WF, sports, arts, spiritiuality and in all others areas of our lives. It is rarely the brightest, strongest, most attractive or most gifted people who end up achieving success in the endeavours they pursue. It is often everyday people who have created a burning vision or passion so strong for what it is they wanted to achieve in their personal lives and the lives of those they impact with their products or services. Whether we accept it or not, all successful people experience the same challenges raised by WF Forum in your thread. Do you possibly think Richard Branson or Warren Buffet suffer from self doubt, lack of focus and procrastination from time to time. However, the tools and strategies that these people have developed over time allow to mitigate and destroy these obstacles quickly and easily and this separates them for the non-acheivers. Find out the hidden secrets to success and you will open a "pandoras box" to wealth....and it is amazing how simple, quick and easy some of these tools and strategies are to implement.

Both confidence and procrastination played parts in the beginning of my career. A little bit of both played havoc on me in the beginning. But as soon as success came my way then everything that was a problem disappeared. The confidence factor that comes into play is a powerful force that will carry anyone through. We can all get the skill set if we work at it long enough and hard enough. But the confidence issue is big and getting that confidence level up is key.
