10 Day Gratitude Challenge...

10 Day Gratitude Challenge - Do You Dare?

Have you ever woke up grumpy, resentful or a little depressed?

I HAVE!

But one day I was challenged by this 70 year old friend of mine to write down 10 things I was grateful for when I woke up for 10 days in a row. I was promised a complete change in my attitude and outlook on life.

It sounded like work, but I agreed and got up the next morning to begin my list thinking it would be a be a piece of cake to slam out 10 things only to find out it was much harder to come up with a full 10 things I had to be grateful for. My resentment list could fill 3 pages, but this was tough.

Do you think it is easy to come up with 10? Try it and see for yourself.

I kept going and as the days passed it got easier and every day I began to realize I was starting out my day differently and what I ended up with was days that were starting out with an...

"Attitude of Gratitude!"

As the days passed, the list became easier and I began to see things differently with a more "positive" outlook and attitude. I was happier, more energized, more positive and my eyes were smiling again.

Interestingly enough, I now do this regularly anytime I want to revitalize my "Attitude of Gratitude". It wasn't easy at first, as I didn't have the right mindset. I was wrapped up in some of the "poor-me" syndrome nonsense that we sometimes experience.

Can You Do 10 Every Day?
** 10 Day Gratitude Challenge **

Here's the scoop...

For the next 10 days when you get up, write down 10 different things you have to be grateful for. Don't repeat the same ones over and over, think of 10 different things you truly can be (or are) grateful for EVERY day 10 days in a row.

The challenge is in doing it...and actually getting a full 10 different, unique items to be grateful for 10 days in a row. If you miss a day, you have to start the count over again.

Bottom Line...

If you want to improve your mindset (which ultimately equates to making more money by osmosis), then start out your day with an "Attitude of Gratitude", avoid the pity pot at all costs and do this challenge.

Good luck...Let me know how it goes!

This is good to start the day with a positive attitude. It will also make you focus on exactly what to do. But like you have pointed out, the challenge is starting to write the 10 things that you are grateful for every morning. I'll set up my mind to start it.

Yes, starting is always the challenge - similar to my exercise program.

At least I'm heading in the right direction, I just spent the last 30 minutes on my treadmill...

Tomorrow, I'll go ahead and turn it on...LOL!

      Funny.
So basicaly I need to write down 100 different things I'm grateful for in the next 10 days. It's doable, but it'll take some work.

I haven't done this challenge, but try and end each day thinking about three things I'm grateful for.

Literally counting my blessings is a great way to end my day.

I did this several months ago when I was in a funk, only I added one step by also doing something which made an investment in the thing I was grateful for. Sometimes it was as simple as being thankful to have a roof over my head and doing something to keep the house clean.

I also gave thanks for my clients, but took a moment to email them and see how business was doing. This got me out of the funk I was in and opened a lot of doors for me in my business too.

Don't have to try it, I've been doing it for years and I advise others to do it too.

Begin and end every day with all the things I appreciate and really feel the feeling of gratitude for each one.

    Hey azjoemartin

Thanks for the challenge - you're hitting me up at the perfect time.
I've hit a pretty frustrating time with my teenager and I hate being
    in such a funk.

It's time to get back to the *Happy* me - and I know this will help.

    Thanks a bunch!

      You're most welcome!

I understand frustrating times with kids (have 4 kids (all grown now, thank God) and 8 grandkids, so I've been down that road.

I've learned not to mistake "Temporary" for permanent and knowing, as they say that, "this too shall pass" makes it a lot more palatable.

Plus, having an attitude of gratitude every day with the understanding that things are the way they are "supposed" to be on my journey, it's much easier to stay "happy".

I'm glad to hear this will help - thanks!

This is a great challenge! One of the coaching programs I went through in my offline business gave us this challenge over 8 weeks. We had to wear one of those plastic/rubber bracelets and every time we had a negative thought we were supposed to snap our wrist. It was interesting keeping your thought processes at the front of your mind. By the end of the 8 week process, I found myself only snapping my wrist once every 3 days or so.

I was in a much better mindset, my business and personal lives saw quality changes. We were also supposed to couple that process with Affirmations each morning. Its really amazing how a positive mindset can change your life!

I attended a seminar that also challenged us in a similar way. Every morning we were to read off a list of declarations, and do various other exercises for changing our old belief structures. At the end of the day, we also listed at least 5 things that we had succeeded at during that day.

I just finished the 90 day program about a week ago. It was amazing how much I had changed my beliefs, and had created new habits of powerful positive thoughts. Part of this was also money management, and it was amazing at the end of the 90 days that I had decreased my debt by quite a bit, and increased my savings and retirement account.

I believe it was a combination of attitude, knowledge, and ACTION! I do think that mindset (and gratitude!) is the most important, although action is a vital component, too.

You could do it at night before you go to bed.

I've used a number of these techniques both by myself and with clients.

This is just one of the best ways to get yourself out of a funk.

        A few observations...

1- This works great for me intially, but once it becomes "routine," the luster wears off.
2- If this happens, you can mix things up a bit by listing your successes for the day as you lie down to sleep... just work your way backwards through the day. If you prefer, you can review them mentally and you'll likely fall asleep before you get to the first thing in the morning.
3- 10 is SUPER easy and as you get into a rhythm, it helps to stretch yourself to 20-25.. it keeps getting easier.
4- Another maximizer is to get one of those small notepads for $1 that fits in your pocket. By documenting your list as you go through the day, your brain becomes attuned to all the good stuff that's happening. Then you can review these things either in the evening or the next morning- whichever you prefer.

        Have fun with it.

LOL! Me neither...it's progress, not perfection, as they say, but in this case, consistency is the key or you have to start over from day 1.

Not only does this challenge teach you gratitude and proper attitude, but also...

      ...Accountability!

Just to add a little salt to it, you may list 10 things you love about your spouse daily for ten days if you can. I tried but got challenged in the third day of the challenge. I will do it again

I've been away from WF for quite some time now and I've been keeping a gratitude log everday since I started, but I think I missed only one or two days. And it has done WONDERS for me!

I noticed I've been feeling consistently positive.

I've also been actively focusing on the positive during the entire time. In particular, throughout the day I would ask myself, "What am I grateful for today?" or "Why is my life so amazing?" (especially if it didn't look it). After about 2 weeks I noticed I was waking up feeling excited to live my life! It's been consistent, except for the past few days somewhat, but in general it feels like my default emotional setting is more positive.

Also, whenever I came across something emotionally painful, I did my best not to buy into it. Basically I asked myself something like this, "Why could I be grateful for this situation?" or "What's good about this situation?" or "How is this a blessing?"

And one issue I was dealing with was some strong jealousy, but as I stubbornly stuck to the questions, unlikely answers started coming forth:

"because in the future, I can relate to and assist people who experience jealousy"
"because it teaches me to be faithful"
"because it helps me get clear on the type of woman I truly want"
"because it is directing me to a higher kind of happiness"
"because it's teaching me to love myself instead of seeking it"
"because it's testing my level of commitment to personal mastery"
My answers didn't come out immediately as I had to really contemplate, but I was amazed by them! Once I saw these different perspectives, the jealousy lost a lot of it's intensity. Personal growth and healing is very important for me, so these answers meant a lot to me.

It makes a real difference in the outcome if you take the time to write it down, similar to writing down goals and posting them where your subconscious takes over and works towards getting you to your goals even when you sleep.

I'd encourage you to put 'em on paper - the rewards are great, not to mention, when you look back on the list later on, it can be an eye opener on the changes you've made in your life.

Good luck and thanks for sharing!

      IT WORKS!

@ktmakwana - Thanks for your update and positive feedback - I'm glad to hear your results - that's just GREAT!!

It's nice to see feedback on how this simple exercise is working in peoples lives and I love hearing it is actually making a difference.

      Isn't it great?

How something so simple can actually help create an amazing change of mindset by just inputting positives and creating a winning "Attitude of Gratitude".

Just think of all the negative self-talk we sometimes do to ourselves. I know I've done it and frankly, it doesn't matter how successful you are, it can happen (and does).

      However...

when the daily ritual of focusing on the things we are grateful for enters the picture consistently, we just subconsciously tune-out our "stinking-thinking" without even trying to - it just happens.

This exercise is a much better solution than the inevitable self-fulfilling prophecy that occurs from consistent negative self-talk and self doubt.

It is amazing the difference we feel about ourselves and the people around us when we fill our minds and hearts with Gratitude.

Add a few positive self affirmations into the mix and the next thing you know, you've got yourself a positive millionaire mindset.

The two main ingredients, to true long-term success begins with...

      Humility and Gratitude...

These are two things you either learn the easy way...or, in my case, the hard way (more on that later).

Have a great day - keep the ball rolling and challenge a friend to give it a whirl.

just set a daily recurring entry in your calendar.. i just did that on my iphone with an alert each morning..

i've done exercises quite a few times where i've written down a list of things i'm grateful for.. but i've never done it everyday.. looking forward to it..

And by the way, do you think it's okay if I do it before I sleep? To take it differently, I am thinking to write the things that made me grateful for the whole day and then read it the next morning.

Great idea - you get to dream about gratitude and program your subconscious and then wake up and start your day with an attitude of gratitude too - a double whammy!

I've never done it that way, but I like it.

I believe the key is consistency and getting the list of things you have to be grateful instilled into your being every morning so you can get your attitude metabolism revved up first thing in the morning.

Similar to why breakfast is one of the most important meals, as it kick starts our physical metabolism. Couple all that with some exercise in the morning and there is no telling what you could accomplish during the day.

Great job on accepting the challenge!

I might just have to do this!

Very unique concept as far as being in the world of IM.

People tend to throw pity parties for themselves and give up, so this could be great!

    • This is a great way to invite enormous positivity into your life. I have done exercises like this in the past with measurable results and continue to do so when ever I could use a lift.

It is very easy to take so much for granted, like it's suppose to be this way don't you know?
But practicing gratitude daily puts an end to that rather quickly. This was a very constructive post. Thanks for the reminder!

      GREAT! Thanks for jumping in!

So far I've heard a whole lot of positive feedback on the results obtained from doing this consistently.

I encourage those who have not chimed in to hop in the boat and start rowing with an "attitude of gratitude".

Trust me, it sure beats hanging out on the "pity pot".

    "Attitude of Gratitude", exactly !!

In my own point of you, this is the most important thing a person can should have before taking a blast every single day When you have a positive mind, everything seems to run smoothly.

This is a great challenge that I hope turns into a habit for many.

I am currently reading "The Magic" by Rhonda Byrne. It is a book all about the power of gratitude and actually has 28 gratitude exercises contained within it. With writing out a list of 10 things each day being the first exercise. It is an awesome read for anyone looking to ramp up this challenge a little bit.

This idea is GOLD!!! I've been actively waking up and "manifesting" my goals first thing every morning this week. And now I've stumbled across this post. It's great because it achieves 2 things:

    1) Sets a great mood for the day ahead
    2) Raises your energy "vibration" so that you actually attract more of the good stuff.

    I'm starting this tomorrow morning.

      AWESOME! More challenge takers...

I have to say, I'm quite pleased to see people committing to improving their lives and mindset by taking a few minutes to start off their day being grateful for the things they have.

Balance is critical when we're pounding away on the keyboard into the middle of the night and early in the mornings sometimes and frankly, I don't always have balance in my life (I'm a workaholic in denial - LOL!).

With imbalance I sometimes get on the pity pot or start pointing fingers at others instead of looking at the three pointing back at me.

The one thing that helps though when I get imbalanced is to get back into gratitude or do something to help someone else. Of course, this is what this whole 10 day Gratitude Challenge is all about - starting your day out with gratitude and balance.

      After all, You're Worth It!

Mindset is critical to success - so do something about bringing yours to the next level with an "Attitude of Gratitude" first thing in the morning!

And...please come back and let us know how you're doing and the difference it's made for you. Personally, I'd love to hear about it and your share will help others too!

I know this works, but it only works if you do it, and won't if you don't!

  • This is an excellent exercise to do every morning. And of course it is all to do with the mindset and your attitude towards things. Having a positive attitude is always healthy for the body and mind.

I was doing something similar to this....

I set my alarm on my cell phone to go off every hour throughout the day (not at night of course). For each alarm, I stopped what I was doing to think about what I was grateful for. After the first couple of days, this became a bit impractical. Your method is much more practical, and while challenging to come up with ten in one sitting, I think I'll try this challenge instead.

I definitely need a tune up on my attitude and outlook on life! :-)

The last thing I want to lose is myself. Someday when you get successful and rich, please look back and do not forget the people that helped, loved and guided you. Don't get too full of yourself and your money. Be thankful to them because money will amount to nothing in the end if you don't have someone right by your side.
