Have you ever tried sprinting? What is your Best time?

For some of you this may seem like a tangent off "mind warriors", but it could be argued that challenging yourself physically is almost all mental and psychological!

As you may have seen in my other thread, I am training for a long-distance race this summer. However, today I decided to mix up the training a bit and try some sprinting.

I clocked 16.05 seconds for 100 metre sprint and 35secs for 200 metres.

Personally I was happy with this for a first go. Olympic times are usually around 10.00 seconds for 100m, and to compete in events you probably need to be around 11-13. However, I was pretty happy to be within 7 seconds of Usain Bolt

I'd love to hear if anyone else tried sprinting? What kind of times do you come in at? Would anyone be interested in starting to sprint a few times a week, record times and keep each other motivated?

I used to sprint some. It has been years since I have really done so with any gusto. Lolol.

    Hello, Kev:

I'm not a sprinter and my only experience with it was when I was a teenager and did it for fun, but without the actual timing.

However, I agree with you that like other forms of success and achievement, success in sprinting can be as much mental and psychological as it is physical. I remember stories from Tony Robbins where he has worked with athletes to help them improve their performance. He points out that technically (physically) they know the game and that it is their "mental game" that needs adjusting. He would help them do that and they would improve their performance.

Ugg, I don't like to sprint unless it's part of a speed workout for distance running or during another activity, such as basketball or ultimate frizbee.

6 a.m. only twice a week. Daily would be taxing on the body.

I sprint and jog at least 5 Km daily. I generally clock somewhere around 11-12 seconds per 100 meters. I am not sure about 200 meter because I generally focus on 100 meter and long distance running.

Man that is a great and inspiring article - thank you - I was thinking "interval training" but this takes it to the next level!

Funny,I had one of the worst sprinting times in P.E class in High school, which was surprising because I thought I was very fit at that time.I could run a mile in about 6 minutes and was 2nd or 3rd fastest in running the 3 mile run(out of 30 or so people),but was near last in sprinting times.I'd imagine I wouldn't do much better now, which is fine because I guess I'm just better at endurance than raw speed.

I always wondered about doing Crossfit exercises which put a big emphasis on sprinting.I would love to get a way to do my aerobics in less time with the same results.

I'm a terrible sprinter, but I add it as interval training to my running sometimes to try and increase my overall speed.

I think sprint training could be seen as part of the mind warrior section because there really is a mental discipline there to make your body move faster.
