Music That Gets You Motivated

What gets you motivated to work harder? What gets your brain cranking? What drives you?

I'm a pretty intense person who's been told that I never relax. Naturally, I tend to listen to comparable tunes.

What gets me motivated and my brain going is upbeat music. Maybe not always music fit for clubs, but definitely close (it's an eclectic mix).

The biggest downside is that it's distracting, so I'll listen to it to "get in the mood" and then turn it off or switch to something else.

What about you?

The possibility of not leaving an inheritance to my grandchidren.

I think that drives me from all fronts.

Most pop music and rock tunes from my junior high and high school years. Those songs bring back good memories of simpler, more carefree times and usually get me really motivated and inspired by putting me back in that frame of mind I had back then where anything was possible. Listening to that music takes me back there and makes me believe anything is possible once again (and anything IS possible....we sometimes just have to be reminded of it, and this is my way of getting that reminder).

I like music too, but it's different genre depending on what I want to be motivated to accomplish (work, to work out, brainstorm, etc.)

drum&bass, dubstep and house gives me energy and gets me in this working mood Nothing with lyrics though. Pop songs, hiphop etc distracts me cuz there are words to listen to.

Interestingly I just heard about dubstep (I really can't define it, baby steps ) from perusing the Grammy winners (Skrillex). I was talking to someone who went to see some dubstep concert/show/etc., last night. Yeah, that's my story on that music genre.

That's what I do, too. Once I start focusing on writing an article or some form of content, I will most often turn the music off so I can concentrate better.

I enjoy music from just about every style, but my preference is for rock. I am a huge Bowie fan and almost anything Bowie gives me a boost. I do seem to have a preference for 80s music, but like I said, I like music from all styles and eras. It just depends on my mood of the moment.

I find music too big of a distraction.Sure it will at times give me motivation to start, but I end up focusing too much on the music and losing track of what I should be doing. I also often find myself watching too many youtube videos of classic rock and alternative rock music which is not good because it often keeps me away from what I need to working on.

My own instrumentals... lol! But only when I'm working on my website that relates to selling my own instrumentals. lol, and I don't mean that in a cocky way (I'm one of the most humble people you'd probably meet), I mean that in, I hear my own and count my blessings that I could even be blessed to make instrumentals. But yeah, otherwise, with other IM work, I agree with Matt in that it can be distracting.

I can't listen to music and write so no luck there, if I do have anything on the background it has to be jazz or classical.

I like to listen to sound of my own voice that I have recorded telling me all the things I forgot at the moment as to why I need to press on. Mainly because I want to prove to some important people in my life that IM can be done and I can do it. There are lots of other reasons too, like of course time freedom, but the negative motivators in my life drive me. I also love these two rap songs that get me going:

    T.I.- Big Things Poppin'

Awesome question. I find what drives me is not knowing what to expect in the next 5 minutes. The anticipation alone is motivating, whether it's fueled by fear or pure excitement, it keeps me running.

And as far as music goes, dubstep is my new best friend! It puts me directly in the zone.

    Hi,

I just discovered that I can't post links yet, so I must do something different.

I found a blog by Robyn McMaster, PhD., that explains why I like Jazz to help me focus and stay focused. It's called the "Mozart Effect." This post is well worth reading so if you're interested, you can go to Brain Based Biz dot blogspot dot com and read the January 24, 2007 post entitled Jazz Stirs Creative Flow. It's well worth reading. At least it was to me.

Note: I am so new and so "ignorant" right now that I don't post - I just listen. But, if I want to make progress I'd better do something even if it's wrong.

Classical music is good background music when I'm working. Most of it is Mozart and Bach. Personally, I love Chopin nocturnes, but they aren't my number one choice for encouraging productivity. I end up becoming engrossed in the music. Come to think of it, I need to broaden my musical horizons and come up with a more varied playlist.

I love music and the kind of music I mostly listen to is rock n' roll, grunge, euro rock, 90s alternative, psychedelic 60s music.

I am a huge Beatles fan (I'm only 25, not 60)! I also love ACDC, Alice in Chains, Sublime, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan.

But I get distracted when I have music pumping on the background. So what I do is I start on something like Back in Black by ACDC to get me crankin'. Then I lower down the volume every few songs until I completely shut it off.

This is a tough question as two things keep me motivated to work harder, firstly the fear that I cannot provide the right life for my daughter, as she is only 6, I believe that I need to give her the best start both with love and attention, and financially.

Music does play a part in my workday too, and the kind of music that pumps me up to work harder is normally stuff from Queen, the Rolling Stones, and the Who, plus others

Nothing like some classic rock tunes to get you going in my opinion

My motivator to work harder are the goals I have set for the future. They are what I really want and I believe if I work hard enough, smart enough... and never quit, eventually my persistence WILL overcome and I WILL succeed. Roadblocks in the way of my goals are only temporary and it's up to me whether I let it remain a hindrance or something I will work through.

My motivation is the goals, the dreams I have for myself and their reality is clear in my mind. They motivate me because I envisioned them becoming real.... if I don't give up and keep persisting. They motivate me because they are goals within reach of my faith... of my believability factor that I will obtain them. Without having these vivid clear pictures in my mind of what I want, then I'll work aimlessly without measure of what I really want and won't have the inspiration to keep at it when the road ahead gets filled with obstructions.
