Where Is Your Time Going?

Hey fellow Warriors

These past few weeks I gave in and followed the all too familiar saying TAKE ACTION. It really is amazing what can be accomplished but at first I was doing it very sporadically.

It would take me all day to sit down and accomplish one task so I decided to really investigate what I was doing with my time. I started keeping daily sheets that I would log my activity and the amount of time I was spending doing it. I couldn't believe how much time I spent reading emails, blogs, and forums while I thought I was being productive. It was really shocking and then I realized how much more I could accomplish if I used my time wisely.

I took everything that was eating up my time and decided that I would only engage in these tasks after I got my work done with no exceptions. The productivity challenge I was having was so much easier to solve once I had hard numbers about what was eating up my time and how much it was wasting. If your having these same trouble try keeping a daily log to help you. It helped me

Metaphysically, I believe that time does not exist, and everyone is granted unlimited time, and because we are granted unlimited time, that it does not matter ultimately. I could waste a thousand years, and it would be a tiny microscopic drop in the humongous ocean of time that I and everyone else will experience in their infinite existence.

That is my opinion. Maybe it is the peppermint schnapps talking, but I'm pretty sure that I speak The Truth.

      That's an interesting philosophy!

      I like it!

Metaphysically, I believe that money does not exist, and everyone is granted unlimited money, and because we are granted unlimited money, that it does not matter ultimately. I could waste a thousand dollars, and it would be a tiny microscopic drop in the humongous ocean of riches that I and everyone else will experience in their infinite existence.

That is my opinion. Maybe it's my laziness and lack of discipline talking, but I'm pretty sure that I'm dodging The Truth.

And if I seem to be lacking money I will ask my government to steal it from you and give it to me so I can go on wasting my non-existent time.

Thanks Chris for the good reminder and yes it is scary when you document what you do with your time but it is probably the only way to really pinpoint the time wasters.

I have a message on a white board that says "is what you are doing going to make you any money".

You have reminded me that I need to look at it more often.

Take good care of those that you love.

Civilization IV is like crack. I haven't uninstalled it (I can't remember the last time I've played it), but once I get that game going, it's a black hole of hours.

Wasted many hours watching people play that game (on youtube).

It is indeed a black hole for time.

I sometimes fall into that "busy-ness" trap, too, where I spend more time than I should on emails, in forums, social sites, etc.

Making to-do lists and keeping a log of what I have been achieving really helps me to stay focused and be more productive.

Like Michael, I believe that time does not exist, that it is a measurement invented by man (but a very useful one!) However, I have a different view of eternity than Michael does and I believe that there is a certain spiritual decision we all will make before we "die" that will determine how we will spend the rest of eternity. In that sense, our "time" here on earth is limited.

We are not permitted to talk about religious (spiritual) matters here in the WF, so I had better leave it at that.

With reference to Internet Marketing, like Chris has suggested, we need to be aware of what we do with our time and use it more wisely to produce results for our businesses.

    That is a great tip.

Being busy and being productive are two very different things, aren't they? It can be a challange but I try to focus on what is "important" and not what is "urgent, but not important" (like those e-mails and facebook).

When I am able to do that, it makes a huge difference in my productivity.

It's very important to make a plan for each day, and documenting what you really end up doing. If you are just starting out, chances are you are wasting most of your time and that will only become apparent once you have your daily log in front of you and see it. I remember I did that in the beginning and I was surprised. After that, everything changed

Thanks for giving this excellent idea. I also waste lots of time doing stupid which make no sense at the end of the day. For instance, I just keep checking mails every 5 minutes which is absolute wastage of time. I will use your idea and try utilizing my time more efficiently. Thanks

I experienced something similar through January and February. Even though I am a writer, I was finding it very difficult to blog regularly and write articles for the directories. But at the prompting of some fellow Internet Marketers, I decided to FOCUS in January ... and it has worked!

I've written more blog posts and articles in the past two months than I've ever before written in that time period ... and I think what helped was two things:
    1) Written goals.
    2) I kept a log of each blog post and article I had written, and each day, that log prompted me to get another couple done!

Every time me and my team plan our day, making schedules for the week, there's a saying that I recently printed out in the wall.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today

And this simple Chinese quote gives as the additional push to start the day effectively.

Some days it's amazing what I can accomplish and other days I feel like a dog chasing her tail. On weeks I am self-disciplined enough to do it, I make a list of goals for the week and then break them down day by day. Then I can really see what I need to do and see progress as I take action to accomplish those goals each day.

Isn't it Eben Pagan who said we only have 3-4 hours to be productive per day? I find that very true.

Say that to a farmer and I think you'd get an ear full.

Honestly, I think it's relative to each one of us and where we are in our lives. Our workload, family, friends etc. all play a part in the amount of productive hours we are afforded.

And let's not forget about coffee.

Time is a very real thing at-least here on earth. Your perception of time however can vary greatly. Staying focused and on purpose keeps you accomplishing more things in seemingly less time. Time after time.

When I think about the amount of time I wasted playing video games in my 20's it makes me want to cry. All those things I wish I could do, play an instrument, fly a plane, etc. etc., I could do today if I had those hours back.

Of course, today I am making up for lost time. Homebrew, anybody?

    Hi.

What I do is to schedule a task and then have a stop watch on hand. You can buy the ones like for running fairly cheap or just go to onlinestopwatch for an online version. Do nothing else but what is at hand and you'll be amazed at the what you can accomplish in 1 hour.

    Cheers

We all go through "paralysis by analysis". Just get through that phase, learn what you want to excel in, and take action. Otherwise, you'll stay there. And some of you will even call yourselves Internet Marketers when you're doing nothing but reading blogs and learning without doing

I barely ever play video games anymore. I want to, but I'm just so busy.

From Mon-Fri, I lose 11 hours of my day working my day job (8 hours working, 1 hour lunch, 2 combined hours driving to and from work). I try to give myself a few minutes per hour to check up on forums/facebook/etc.

I try to dedicate my weekends and any time I have at home for IM and my webshow (in sig and youtube icon). Since both are literally other sources of income online, they both count as IM.

Once I make a full time living doing IM and my webshow, I'm gonna take the weekends off and finally play video games again.
