Hello, everyone

I'm fairly new to the forums, but I wanted to start contributing to the boards by discussing this with other warriors.

How's your goal setting process? Do you review your goals regularly? Daily?

I have always found this difficult, my procrastination tend to appear in these moments, and I always get thinking about new things but not really coming up with something that I really would love.

However, I have also found how crucial it is to set goals properly, if I don't set clear goals, at best I end up moving aimlessly and I get pretty much nowhere. But when I put my mind into something, I have proven that nothing can stop me.

I learnt to speak french in less than 2 months, and after one year I was completely fluent with a barely noticeable accent. Best part is... this was not hard at all!!

What is your goal setting process, if I may ask?

Cheers,

Daniel.

Hey Daniel. I am also new, but am slowly getting the hang of things. As for goals, have you ever heard of SMART goals?
    Specific
    M
    easurable
    Attainable
    R
    ealistic
    T
    imely

I had learned about this at school for a marketing class and thought it was pretty interesting. It's a definite way to set a clear goal.

If the goal can be questioned such as, "how much do you want to make? or how long do you have to achieve that goal? how are you going to reach that goal? etc." then you can tweak it until it will answer all those questions.

Then you can have a specific goal such as, I want to be able to make an extra $1000 per month by August of 2012 by doing mobile marketing.

After that goal is set. Write it everywhere. On your bathroom mirror, in your notebook, have a post-it in your car, etc. As long as there is a constant visual reminder, then there is a higher chance of you to take action and reach that goal.

As the shoe company says, just do it!

One reason why we don't take action is the fear of falling flat on our faces and being afraid of what others will think when we fail, etc, etc.

The way out is to tell yourself life is too short to bother with such things. You may well fall down, but you will pick yourself up and continue on regardless.

Decide that whatever happens, you will handle it and go on to take action.

        Now get going!

        Cheers,
        Sanjeev

For me personally, it was all just a "now or never" mentality. You just have to dive in and experience it for yourself. One could spend all their time researching, but if you never take that first step, then all you will be doing is accumulating a bunch of information and losing precious time making money. I also learned from Kenster not to wait and perfect it. Perfection will lead you broke.

when I do goal setting, I go to the big picture main goal first, then I break it down to the step by step on what to do to reach that main goal... very simple, and so far I'm comfortable with this.

Good thread. I must admit that this is still something I'm working on - it's great to hear about what others do.

    My goal setting process...

I write down the goal with the time deadline on my bathroom mirror... so I could read it everytime I go to the bathroom and say it loudly in the morning when I brush my teeth.

For setting any specific, I generally give much time. I always try to write down to get some clear concepts about my goal. After setting the main target, I break them to several small goals and rank them according to priority. Write down all obstacles that I may have to face and what should be my action then. After defining all challenges, most of the time I had to change the course of actions! Without keeping the big goal on mind, I generally give focus on small part one by one.

One goal at a time, I never stop making vision to reality. I find people with the same interest and help me reach that goal.

One needs a variety of goals. There is the tomorrow goal. Each night before bed, I list items that need attention tomorrow in a notebook that gets reviewed before I start the day.

There is the monthly goal---what am I going to do this month? There is the big picture goal. Where do I want to be in 3 years? Is my current activity working toward that?

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

I personally have learned to stay away from outcome oriented goals where you need to control how things will happen.. my main goal in life up to this point was to over come an appalingly deep state of depression that set in most of my life and medication just mad worse and added 60 pounds of weight .. that now need to be uncreated at some point in the future ..

personally goals that drive you to be constantly learning and testing out what you like and don't like ..

also lifesyle goals instead of earning goals

like say you have a goal of making a million doallar.. ok .. what would you do with the million dollars ... so leave out making the million dollars and just write the goals of what you want to do ..

also figure out the essence of what you want to get from each goal .. and figure out how best you can get that feeling now to lead to getting the goal ..

the main purpose of goals and goal setting though.. is to get that imagination of yours that you where tought to stop using by the time you where 10 years old going again ..

Something that works really well and we all have the ability to do with ease these days is to take the time just once to write out your specific goal and all that goes with it. Go to your computer or what ever device you own where you can record your own voice and read your goals out loud. Put the recording on you ipod or some mp3 player and listen to it whenever you can but at least in the morning when you get up and even better at night when you are going to sleep.

This takes pretty much all of the effort out of it and gives you no excuses. Do this it will help.

I set goals short term and long term. Yearly and very short term goals. It is hard to meet each goal within the planned timeline because sometimes unexpected things come up and delay the goal. I never give up the goal but sometimes have it pushed back some.

The ultimate goal is a combination of completing the smaller goals. I am a work in progress. :p
You have to set goals and push yourself to make it happen. Hush the voices in your head. "Just Do It"

    Nice thread!
In my case I set goals that are specific.
Top achievers know that to reach their goals, the brain must know exactly what they are trying to accomplish. Never word a goal with vague terms like “some” or “a little bit”, or “more”. Be specific! If you want to save $200 this month, be exact. Your brain can help you accomplish almost anything if it knows precisely what you are aiming for.
