How the podomoro technique is changing my life...

For those who don't already know, the podomoro technique is an amazing way to get more productivity out of every second you work and limits your work to only engaged, focused tasks, zero distractions.

How? By batching distractions in a specific block of time and batching work in another.

Here's how it works: you set a timer for 25 minutes. The 25 minutes is PURE WORK, zero distractions.

Strict pomodoro followers will say if you get distracted, you have to start over from scratch on that pomodoro. I am not that strict.

Afterwards, you get a five minute break before starting your next pomodoro. On your break, you answer e-mails, reply back to text messages, check Facebook, play farmville, whatever distractions you were resisting to keep yourself busy while you were going in your pomodoro.

This is PERFECT for self employed people. There is no longer a need to keep yourself going. The clock keeps your mind moving and keeps everything batched in an appropriate manner.

There are even cool applications you can use. As for me, I'm using pomodroido on my Android phone, which happens to be amazing, by the way.

I usually set a goal of how many to complete in a day, usually between 10-14 pomodoros per day with appropriate breaks. It's pretty sweet !

Anyways, give it a try. Let me know if it changes your life.

I heard a lot of people using pomodoro technique successfully!
I tried it with a few programs, but unfortunately i wasn't consistent enough with this technique.
I maybe should try it again once!

Here's a list of the programs i tried:

pomodairo (this is the one i liked most)
    Flowkeeper
    Pomo Time
    focus booster

Pomodoro is awesome. If you head over to their website, the timer is only part of the technique. It is also about learning how to prioritize your work. I work very strictly by the Pomodoro Technique and it has been the only way I stay focused some days.

I'm thinking if you're disciplined enough to use the podomoro technique, you might not need it.

I have been trying this recently and it really does get a lot accomplished. I never realized that I was multi-tasking too much and never really being as time efficient.

I've heard of this technique used a little differently by setting a cooking timer for 33 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break before resetting the clock. I did not know there was a name for the technique though. I'll have to check out their website.
