Failing - and celebrating it

Have you failed on anything major in your life lately? What did you do when it happened? Did you just give up or did you "celebrate" that failure?

My son told me yesterday that he didn't make it to the honors list for the first time (since kindergarten). It was heartbreaking to see his sullen face. But he and I saw it coming - it was a result of his lack of focus on his studies. Instead of reprimanding him, we had a heart-to-heart talk and went to the mall, grabbed a movie and ate at his favorite fast food restaurant.

Just like success, I choose to celebrate "failure" because it is that point in time when new and wonderful things start to happen. Failure is a reminder that we have to do our best to NOT feel the negative emotions that come with failing.

As long as I can learn from a failure, I'm cool (obviously I don't want to fail). It's when I can't learn is when I have a problem.

The presence of failure in our life is a proof that we are doing something new, so never get tried of having it and never surrender. Life is journey, complete it

Paradoxically, I find not caring actually helps me to not fail! (Probably because it alleviates stress.)

If you can learn something from your failures, then really, you can never fail... you can only grow and expand from the experience. This means that you are not failing, but you are educating yourself. It made be an education taught through trial and error, but this is how all the world's best ideas start out.

So the next time you "fail" ... step outside the situation so that you can gain from the experience and you will never fail again.

Although I would not want to go back and re-live them, I am very grateful for my past failures. That is what got me to where I am now!

Failing is good when we learn from our mistakes.. All of us are design to learn from making mistakes, if we don't make mistakes.. we don't learn anything.. just like walking, we learn to walk by falling down if we never fall down... Today we are still NOT able to walk..

Just like learning to ride a bike for instance, we learn by falling down, if we didn't take the risk and have the willingness to make mistakes.. then today we are still not able to ride a bike.

Just like the old saying: "What doesn't break you, makes you strong!" How true is that?

So if you ask me, I would rather try and fail than die NOT knowing anything.

    God bless,
    Jeremiah

I hear you Rue, it's not that easy to 'celebrate failure' but I try to do that very hard, and constantly telling myself that this is the way the universe teaches you lessons!

Someone said that 'failure is not that you do not know anything, but you misplace something'. During your work may be you fell asleep...you the heck came up with this concept anyways

Failure is a good, as it shows you have at least tried something. Failure should be used as fuel to passion up for success. However, too much failure may make you suicidal

Every time that I fail at something I look at it as im that much closer to success. That's actually the truth because you cant succeed without failure and you can learn with out failing as well. Once I have realized this my life has changed.

...then there is the well-known failure Thomas Edison. He "failed" 10,000 times before he created the light bulb.

Failures can be costly. But, the only positive you can take is to learn from your failures.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

Yes, I failed recently or I should state it as my latest online marketing strategy has failed. It was part of a popular WSO and seemed liked a good approach. This was the 3rd time in 6 months where I followed an online marketing course and realized, this isn't for me. I think what I've learned is that just because someone else is successful with a particular strategy doesn't mean it's going to be a good fit for me. Like I can have Michael Jordan teach me how to play basketball, but I'm never going to excel at it -- I'm too short, too slow, can't jump.

I want to go back to thinking very hard about what I AM good at and plan my strategy around it.

I have had no recent major failures, but in little things to do with my Internet Marketing business, I fail daily. And try to learn from them so that I become better over time.

I think we can sometimes learn so much more from failure than we might have from succeeding at the thing.

It also helps us to gain perspective so we are less likely to criticize others and are more likely to be supportive and encouraging to them when they are experiencing failure.

If we didn't fail how would we grow?

We all need to fail to move through life.

In all situations there is something to be learned, sounds like you and you son have are discovered that.

Not making the same mistake, is one of life's biggest challenges. Take the good, throw out the bad, move on.

They say that the person who never fails never achieves anything... I feel that failure is an inevitable part of success- if I try something which fails then I now know a way NOT to do it which takes me further along the path of how to do it.

The only failure is in giving up and refusing to learn from the failure or to try again.

I agree - when a boxer gets knocked down, their coach only throws in the towel when they don't get back up. Throwing in the towel is certain defeat.

Moral - always get back up no matter how hard you get hit

Failing is part of achieving our goals or success. The celebrating part I think should follow after solving what you failed at.

I don't think I ever "fail" if I try. I really try to enjoy the journey. If something doesn't produce the results that I wished for I step back and make adjustments. I eliminate what doesn't work and repeat what does. That's the fun part!
