Many of the same quality you obviously have that you use to be good in sports and your job can translate into other areas if you only work on it with some guidance.

Read online and get some books like Think & Grow Rich by Napolean Hill, The Game of Life and How To Play it by Florence Scovill Shinn and many others.

Listen/watch to motivational videos on yout tube or websites online or buy some.

Just like in sports, you have to learn the basics, practice all the time, get better at it, and practice some more. You can do it!!!

Question: did excelling in sports give you confidence, or did you still shy away and doubt your abilities?

      Excellent question, Joe.

kaniganj, I do not believe in luck. I do believe in the Law of Attraction, however. Our inner image needs to correspond with our outer image. When the different parts of ourselves work together in harmony, we have a better chance of attracting what we want.

To work on the inner image, I suggest creative visualization.

No. It does not boil down to just confidence.

If that were the truth, a lot more people would succeed every day. Many other factors are involved, like luck (market conditions meets your product or service), technical skill, connections, etc.

You may have had a predisposition to some athletic activities, but you did not pop out of the womb knowing how to golf or run. Those skills needed to be trained. You could have ignored your natural inclinations and not learned them.

If you believe you're good at what you do, then why don't you have a supportive self-image? This is the question you need to answer. Something about your self-image isn't matching up with what you've been told you are.

The solution to your problem is in your question itself. You say you are good at what you do. Just believe that to the core of your self, do not let negative thoughts affect you and go ahead...

    Best of luck to you.

Oftentimes the answers we need are right in front of us, we just need somebody to ask the right questions in order to bring it out.

What exactly is the problem here? Are you shy? Do you want to be "not shy?" Do you want more business confidence?

What you want to strive for is core confidence, the confidence that you have in football for example is situational. My personal advice is to see how you are feeling when you do well in football and then channel it into your other areas of your life. Good luck and cheers!

    Hi Chris

Just from my own experience i don't think you have a confidence problem, you have a FEAR problem. A lot of people and even some experts talk a lot about "how to improve your confidence" yet the truth there's no such thing, there is only an absense of fear.

You could spend the next 10 years trying to "be" more confident and to some degree you might even succeed, but if you focus on the underlying fear your experiencing about a particular situation you would start to make real progress.

When people say they lack confidence it's similar to people saying they don't like being at high altitudes, when in reality what they're really saying is that they "fear" falling from a high altitude and crashing into the sidewalk.

    Just my 2 cents.

I think you have cause and effect switched. I imagine most people become confident after reaching a certain level of success. It's the people who have confident before that success, about which I am concerned.
