My Cat Experiment That Lead To Seeing A Symbolic Comparison Of The 99% to 1%... (No cats were hurt)

Before I start my cat story I wanted to give you a statistic to give you a perspective on how the world's wealth is divided. 99% of the population controls 4% of the wealth while 1% of the population controls 96%.

Just to put that in perspective I want to give you a quick example. Imagine there being 100 pizzas set out on a table. One man is going to eat 96 pizzas while 99 people are going to split 4 pizzas. So the big question is why is the wealth division so unbalanced?

Let me tell you a quick story on a experiment that I did with two cats. The first cat's name is Chi-Chi and the second cat's name is Ali. We still have Chi-chi but Ali was to wild for our liking and we ended up giving him away.

One day out of nowhere I decided to do a experiment to see what both cats would do when put in a strange situation. So I put both cats in the middle of the bathroom and opened up the door to allow both of them to exit.

They both started walking towards the door which symbolized opportunity and freedom. The second that I saw in their eyes the belief that they can make it out I immediately stepped in front of them to block your path. Both cats stood there and looked at me in awe as the mammoth obstacle that I was.

What happened next was the difference between the 99% crowd and the 1% crowd. I remained blocking the door and guarded it like a hockey goalie. Over the next five minutes Ali tried every method to get out of the bathroom even though I was blocking the path as if my life depended on it.

He made wild flying attempts to squeeze through the cracks. He ran at me full speed willing to injure himself to get out. It was almost as if he was insane and not willing to accept defeat no matter what.

All the while Chi-chi would look up at me every once in a while and take a couple of steps. Just like a employee will make some half a%# attempt to free themselves from their job ultimately giving up after a huge obstacle appears. Excuse after excuse will flow like a river.

All I would have to do was make any sort of movement indicating I would block Chi-chi's path and that paralyzed Chi-chi into remaining like a victim caught in a trap. (I don't have the money. I don't have the experience. I can't... blah blah blah)

The interesting thing is how Ali made it out five times out of his 35 wild attempts. I was honestly trying my hardest to keep this wild champion spirited cat inside this bathroom. I was the massive obstacle just like all of the obstacles you will face in life that will try to hold you back from creating massive success in your life.

Ali had the spirit of a 1% champion. He refused to give up no matter how big the obstacle or how long it took him to get out. The interesting part is Chi-chi only attempted to get out twice and never made it out. Once when he was naive enough to think it was as easy as just walking out. The second attempt came when she saw Ali get out his first time. (Follower)

It's just like a person that sees others succeeding so they come searching online to see numerous success stories and then have the motivation to attempt to escape the rat race.

The second that person doesn't see instant success they are instantly paralyzed then remain a sitting victim for the remainder of their life. Blaming circumstances versus taking blame for not being like Ali.

That victim minded person then tries to spread the disease of failuritis to other individuals and keep them paralyzed as well. I learned a lot by watching Ali that day. I learned that you must have a definite purpose which for Ali was to escape the bathroom to roam freely.

I learned that you must be like a wild man who will make crazy attempts no matter how much it's outside of your comfort zone. I learned that you must keep trying until you succeed no matter what.

I learned that you must not accept any obstacle as an obstacle. You must fight until you get what you want. I learned that if you take on the role of a leader who leads by example and takes no excuses you will pass the same mentality to the people that follow you.

Do not be Chi-Chi be Ali... (If some parts in this offended you then you are being like Chi-Chi)

One last thing... Chi-chi is way more intelligent then Ali. She can use the toilet. Yeah we taught her to use the toilet. She responds and comes like a dog. She is very trainable. Ali was hard to train. Hard to program. He wanted what he wanted and was not not willing to bend to anybodies standards.

The question I have for you is... Are you unstoppable?

    Haha... I like it.

I grew up with cats and I can think of many nights (we used to keep them in at night - saves lots of inevitable trips to the vet if they run into a raccoon) where I'd come home from delivering newspapers and have to play goalie to cats trying to zip out the door the moment it was opened. :-P

I see similar traits in the turtles that I keep as pets now.

    I have three.

One is outgoing and very social... plenty of charisma in that one. He'll spend all day basking under the heat lamp regardless of loud music, guests or anything else. When he wants to do it, he does it.

One is more the curious type. She's interested in what's going on around the aquarium (and outside of it). She'll bask, but only if you don't look at her too long and don't make too much noise.

The last one (actually - he's technically my first :-P) is very shy. If you look at him while he's basking under the heat lamp, he'll dive back into the water immediately for fear of beating eaten. Or at least, that's what I assume. He'll only bask if another turtle is basking at the same time.

    People aren't so different.

I would suggest that there is a bit more grey in the matter than just the 99% and the 1% personality type, but we're not the only species who suffers this terrible affliction, clearly. :-P

    Cheers,

I would be concerned about the cats becoming distressed - they did not choose to participate in this experiment.

Also, I am aware that cats will sometimes watch a situation for hours in order to work out how best to succeed at their goals (e.g. get something to eat).

Having said that, it's important to take inspiration anywhere we can find it, and cats are a great inspiration.

Actually a better way to put your example is that 1 man is going to MAKE 96 pizzas while the other 99 are going to argue over who is going to make the other 4, but those 99 people being lazy makes it highly unlikely that those 4 pizzas are going to be made at all.

Then these 99 people are going to complain that 1 person has 96 pizza while they have none and that this 1 person should give the 99 people the pizzas the 1 person made. After all it's not fair that 1 person worked so hard to make 96 pizzas while the other 99 layed around doing nothing so if the the 1 person isn't goint to give the 99 people his pizza, then they'll take it (steal it is more like it) because that's only "fair" in their lazy warpped minds.
