Reality Check: Most of you will fail...

Sounds scary right? But guess what? That's the truth. It's often said that in order to attain success you have to keep going and never give up.

But you see, it's easier said than done. Most people start something with extreme enthusiasm but with time they stop even with little opposition.

It's not enough to take action, you have to take action consistently and keep going when you face setbacks. And do you know you will have setbacks your whole life? You won't ever reach a point where you will say - Oh I've made it...Now I can relax.

That point doesn't exist...And the reality is that you will have to face setbacks all your life if you truly wish to become the elite 1 percent. The question is - Do you have what it takes?

I suppose it depends how you look at it. “Setback” can mean: "Opportunity to progress, advance, and succeed”.

Otherwise I agree. Consistent action is a prerequisite for succeeding.

Desperation is the best motive in these situations. But not the best in terms of how you are then. It needs a lot of strength to stay focused and succeed in something nowadays. The choises and the distractions are infinite.

I think it's best not to place a negative label on failing. Each time something doesn't work out, I break down what happened that caused the setback and forge a new course of action. Yeah I might get a little upset but it happens and I keep moving forward. Always look at failures as reconstructing your goal. The only time you really fail is when you don't continue the path to achieving success.

Precisely. The only true failure is to stop trying to succeed.

    Agreed.

However, I make a distinction between persevering in a wrong direction and persevering in a good one. I think that you have to keep going in general, but also leave the wrong paths. If I start doing something and at one point the desire and motivation fade, I have to wonder what the motive is. If I find that that direction does not suite me anymore, I change it. If I find that I'm simply getting lazy and comfortable, then I kick myself into action.

And setbacks are just challenges that make the end result more pleasurable. When you work hard for something, you enjoy it many times more than when you get it easily.

Well, if you believe that you might not achieve success, because most people will fail, and you can just as easily be the one to fail as anyone else, it really is 99,9% chance that you wil fail.

But, if you understand why people fail, and what it takes to succeed, and you decide to succeed, your chances will be much higher. And most people in the top 1% have done that.

I don't even think about failing. It's a negative thought, which will affect my decisions, which will lead to other actions. Other actions leads to other results.

i like the new definition but it is not good to say that do you have what it takes
because the old definition suits the scenario more
no one has everything for what he is doing but has to build strength and try everything that needs to be done
if you start wrestling you can't beat john cena the same day you started
    now think what it takes
here you have to build yourself facing problems and train yourself with learning
here comes that you have to keep going and never giveup

Failing is temporary, giving up is forever.. I hate failing but I certainly know that failing is part of success

I have never seen a loving couple who never go thru heart breaks,
I have never seen a person who can ride a bike without first falling down,
I have never seen a successful entrepreneur who never gone thru setbacks and obstacles.

    It's the process.

I like your analogy and would like to add my own:

I have never seen a baby stand up or walk the first time!

Imagine how it would have been if all of us had given up as babies to not get up again and again to stand or walk!

Is that really the question? Or is the question not rather "do I want what it takes if I have to swim through an ocean of doubts and despair first?"

Rule of the thumb: full self realization leads to full success.

If THAT makes me part of the one percent - then I was lucky indeed and gifted as well.

In order to talk about failure, you have to define its opposite, success. There are 8 pillars to success: Physical, spiritual, emotional, psychological, financial, work, relationships and rest/relaxation. You can be successful in some and not in others.

We also have to recognise that 80 of small business startups fail to survive their first 5 years and of those that do, only 5 will be surviving and thriving after a further 5. Which tells you that if you want to fail, follow conventional wisdom because the owners of all of those failed businesses all read the same books, attended the same type of workshops etc etc. So if you want to succeed, you have to be prepared to go against the grain!

I had a guy in an audience tell me "It just seems like my business is 10 steps forward...nine steps back"

I said "Do you know why you think that?" I know he was waiting for the magic pill to solve all his problems.

I said "Because all business is like that. Always. But after every 9 steps back...you gain one step. and you don't quit".

Not the way to sell books, but it sure is my experience.

To fail and to give up or quit are synonymous with each other. Failing is a definitive action you take when you've encountered minor or major setbacks that you can not seem to figure out how to handle or have no interest in doing so.

Setbacks, when overcome, allow you to establish a knowledge base that makes accomplishing your goals a much easier task.

Success, on the other hand, is not an exact point to be reached. It is our ability to be able to traverse over, around and through any obstacles we may encounter while collecting the small treasures on our way to wherever our whims take us.

If there are no obstacles to overcome you can not succeed. Likewise, if you do not quit you will not fail.

I happen to agree that a good many people wont make it to where they want to be with life. From what I have seen, this has got a lot to do with the fact that most people are not willing to work hard for prolonged periods of time. Hard work is not embraced. Hardcore persistence often makes the difference between successful people and average folk.

Failure is in the eye of the beholder. I choose to see these 'failures' as lessons in how not to think, (and in how not to say or do things). Another arrow in my quiver of wisdom and experience. I take a lot more chances now because I don't believe in failure, only in opportunity.

Get up, patch your self up and keep the gun ready for another opportunity. It all depends on your motivation and your desire. The larger the motivation the larger the blow you can take. But quitting is not a bad thing.. just look for something else that you are good at. there's no point wasting 5 years of your life doing the exact thing over and over again and expect different results.

Failure is not negative, it is positive. It is just a medium that will help a person to motivate himself in order to succeed. In fact, failures are parallel and directly proportional to success. The more you fail, the more you learn- the more you learn, the more you succeed. Failure is part of learning but most people are afraid. Do you know what makes a person not successful? “To GIVE-UP!”

A very frank statement which makes me feel quite uneasy, but only because I know it's true. I know that because of what I want to achieve in life I'll never be able to stop and think 'Right I'm done, I've finally made it'. I feel like that would be great now, but maybe at the time I'd just have to start looking for the next 'project' anyway, so either way I suppose I can't complain.

    You are succesful if

    1) You can feed your family and educate your children well.

    2) You die after seeing your grand kids.

    3) You spend your whole life with your loved ones. If after the age of 80, your wife looks into your eyes and say "I love you". You are a success

    4) You have good healthy life till your old age.

    5) Your kids believe in good karma and dont hurt anyone for pity profits. When someone appreciate them. They say "'Its because of my parent's upbringing". You are a success.

However, you are not a failure if

    1) You fail to create million dollars

    2) You fail to own rolls royce

    3) You fail to get to stage where million people know you.

    4) You dont spend nights in 5 star hotels.

If you fail to achieve this, this doesnt make you failure at all. You still got lot of success in my opinion.

So true. I try to think of failure as strength. Anyone that can comeback from massive failure and become successful is a powerful person. It takes mental toughness and sickening will power to keep getting up after being knocked off your feet time and time again.

I believe the failures will make reaching success that much sweeter.

I didn't read all of the comments in hear so someone may have already said this but its worth saying again...

All I hear is the word fail and it makes me cringe.. Failure does not exist on the plane with success... See you never fail if you are looking for success..

The first thing you must understand if you are to be successful is that we do not fail if we learn.. If you learn a lesson that will keep you from doing it again or how to do it better next time then there is no way to fail..

Life is trial and error.. We didn't just stand and walk it took some falling down to get there... I bet we never saw it as failure until someone put a label on it...

So eliminate the word failure from your vocabulary if you are to be successful.. Learn from the trials and errors of life... Smile and know you just learned something that will change everything...

I enjoy people like you.. Ones that care enough to try and keep moving forward no matter what...

Stay determined my friends the Top isn't as far as it looks...
