The Most Productive Thing I've Ever Done

I notice on this forum there's quite a few people who openly admit they suffer from procrastination. Which is good because most do but don't admit it.

I did for years, mostly online like most of us who work online for a living. Tried everything and every technique under the sun, browser plug ins, router controls, pomodoro technique...everything. And the only thing which worked was getting rid of the internet.

I now do all my online work from coffee shops and libraries. I've found through tools like Read It Later, Spool, offline gmail I can do 90% of my work offline and then just sync when I get online. Get in and out, job done. No mindless facebook, youtube or endless web surfing going down rabbit holes.

I know there's no one size fits all and im just throwing out there the only thing which worked for me...but this has taken my productivity and business to new levels. Do you really need 24/7 access to the net?

You are right...we don't need 24/7 internet access...even if all our work is related to internet......

There has to be a routine to which one must stick to....there is no benefit in checking you emails 20 times a day everyday.....always remaining logged in to your facebook account (waste of time).....

Instead stick to a routine like checking your emails once in the morning...maybe once during afternoon...and once at night.....

I don't think we need to be connected to the internet all the time....

You are right! I know what you mean by "the rabbit hole". I'll get online to research one thing quickly, and 2 hours disappear. Now, while I do enjoy good research, it is not always the most productive use of my time online. Thanks for the post and the advice!

Yup research doesn't get you paid. Doing gets you paid.

To think about it, I would love to say I don't need Internet Access 24/7 but I do go on the internet at random times during the day and night. I'm a night owl. I'm not online 24/7 but I can't go out to a coffee shop to work at 12am. I get most of my work done at night. My problems with procrastination happen during the day time on weekends. I was thinking about spending most of the day traveling to different coffee shops to do my IM work, like bar hopping but it's coffee shops.

It won't work for everyone. I'm lucky in that I have the flexibility to do it during the day when other places with wifi are open.

I tried emailing you regarding the accountability partner thing but your email bounced, think there must of been a type in your email address, could you send me another pm with it in?

I just sent you a pm. I must admit that I love having access to the internet at any time. I love the internet! I know it can be detrimental at times but now I'm more focused getting certain objectives met when I'm working on IM. It's harder for me to work on IM during certain days in the week, so I'm forced to do a lot of work at night. For me, it helps to have a list.
