I went through the Eben Pagan's excellent excellent "WakeUp Productive" course last year...

One of the main idea in the course is to form a morning success ritual Which basically includes:

Drink a glass of water right after you wake up.
30+ minutes of exercise
Healthy breakfast (As organic and raw as possible).

I know if I install such success ritual/habit my productivity will skyrocket and I will have an amazing day...
(Amazing day will result in amazing week. Amazing week will result in amazing year. Amazing year will result in amazing life)
But still, unfortunately I have been trying and thinking to set this habit for almost a year without any success.
What is the point of going through such courses if I can't implement ideas. Ideas are dime a dozen if not put into use. And can be worth millions if implemented.

NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!! From tomorrow onwards here will be my morning ritual:

5:45: Jump out of bed.
5:45-6:15: Freshen up.Drink a glass of water. Drink Yerba Mate tea update my results on the forums here. Read for 15-20 minutes.
6:15-7:00: Exercise for 3o minutes. Rest.
7:00-8:00: Bath. 10-15 minutes of meditation.
Make and drink Super Food Smoothie:
Blueberry. Strawberry. Green powder. Protein powder

Eben mentioned that it takes 30 days to form a habit. I will perform the above ritual continuously for 30 days. No Excuses!!!! Most important part of above ritual is to wake up at 5:45 AM every morning. Other things will automatically fall into place.

I will post on this thread every morning for the next 30 days. This is my public commitment. Wish me luck. Feel free to join me. Also I am looking to have a responsibility partner who is looking to form same habit. ( PM me). I am in CA Bay Area.

Thanks for reading the thread! Time for MASSIVE ACTION!!!!!!!!!! See you tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM ( PST).

I don't know about 'leap out of bed'
But if you feel like that,it must be good.
I take forever to wake up,I could not just rush out and start exercising, but I could do a walk.
They say run on an empty stomach,I don't like that either, leaves you drained for the day.
      But,hey,were all different,best of luck,it takes discipline.

Many of my friends should use this.

I hear them tell me all the time "I can't do anything for the first couple of hours of my day because I'm so tired/exhausted."

I try to tell them ways to change it but they shut me down.

      If only they knew...

    Good morning!
Day 2... Success. Up at 6:00.Waking up today was much easier than yesterday.

In the wakeup productive Eben talks about how habit is formed. First 10 days is the hardest. It takes a lot of will power fuel to launch the rocket. Next ten days is easier... And in the last 10 days it becomes automatic.

    Have a great day!

I have found this to be the case as well. So just hang in there and I am sure that it will get easier eventually.

I think Eben also talks about how you shoul not try to create too many new habits all at once. That may be too stressful for you and as a result, you might "relapse" back to your previous self. Slow and steady wins the race. Well, unless the race happens to be a 100 metres race in the olympics.

    Day 3: Success.
It was really tiring and difficult to wakeup today, because I couldn't sleep up until 1 AM last night. I will need to take a nap in the afternoon.
It is really important to sleep on time.... Lesson for today.

I won't be able to do exercise today because I have run to work early. But I will still call it a success just because I was able to wake up 6:00 AM and complete other items.

The honest truth is that most people know that they should be following such a program, but they don´t do it.

You need to have stated your WHY first; the reason why you need to do all those things.

If you don´t have that, you will always fall back into the old - unproductive habits.

Starting off your morning in a powerful note is essential for a productive day.

This is great and appropriate to the topic from one of my favorite books:

"The world can be divided into feelers and doers. Feelers take action and initiative only when they feel like doing so. In other words, they feel there way into acting. If they don't feel like doing something that will advance their goals, they won't do it. If a feeler feels like exercising, he will. If he doesn't feel like exercising, he won't. If a feeler feels like watching television, he will. But if he feels like reading instead, he will choose to read. A feeler's decision-making ability is wired to his short-term emotional appetite. He is a prisoner of the desire for instant gratification, and naturally will suffer the long-term consequences of this short-term perspective. Feeling-driven thinking is shallow thinking. It lacks character, conviction, and maturity. Feeling-driven thinking is also a habit.

Doers, on the other hand, act their way into feeling. After determining what needs to be done, doers take action. They just do it. If they don't feel like taking action, they consider that emotion to be a distraction and take action in spite of it. They refuse to let their desire for short-term comfort dicert them from their long-term goal.

You become a doer by making a definite and deliberate decision to do so. You become a feeler by default, by neglecting to consider this aspect of your character at all. In the absence of a definite decision to do otherwise, we are all prone to giving in to the worst side of human nature. We are all very likely to engage in actions that only prodice immediate payback."

Kudos to you for your plan! My experience has been that it is far easier to get started if I have direction for the next day; if I know exactly what I need to accomplish. Might I suggest that you create a to do list when you are finishing your IM day, and place it where you will see it. This provides a visual reminder and direction for the next day. It has helped me tremendously; my blog has dropped from 17.2 mill to under 1 million [still nothing compared to many of the IM gurus on this forum] in Alexa rankings as I have done this.

Gerald, Nathan, Tevis, David, Lovenus thanks for all the support, recommendations and wonderful comments!

Here are some of my WHYs and benefits for getting up early and following the morning ritual:

    1. I have seen the big boost in productivity when I wakeup early and start my day strong. First hour is the rudder of the day. It sets the direction of the day. Tony Robbins calls it "Hour of Power".
    2. Exercising early is like "stoking the fire". Whole day I feel energetic and healthy.
    3. Health benefits... I haven't regularly exercised for the last 3-4 years. I can feel the differences in my health, weight , energy and vitality because of this. Nailing it first thing in the morning will make huge differences in my health. I will look young and sexy. :-)
    4. Having healthy energetic superfood smoothie will give me great health and vitality benefits . I will live long healthly life.
    5. By waking up early I will have time for myself. I can meditate(Habit to be added later on..) I won't be just living reactive day (when I wake up late).
    6. I can finish my work early by evening so that I can have fun time with my family in the evening ( After having high impact productive day).
    7. This will boost my self confidence, self discipline and will power. It is like "eating the frog" (As Brian Tracy says) if I can nail important and difficult stuff first thing in the morning I can go through the day with the confidence that I can do whatever I put my mind to. I am not a slave of my moods and emotions.
    8. Strong productive day... means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. :-)

    Code:
How You Should Start Every Day For The Rest Of Your Life!
    1. Set your alarm clock to go off 10 minutes earlier than usual.
    .
    1. The first thing, after you get up, is to immediately remake your bed.
    1. Go to the kitchen, pour yourself a glass of water and drink it all.
    1. Go to the bathroom, take care of "business," brush your teeth, wash the sleep out of your face and eyes and brush and comb your hair.
    .
    1. Next, put on some exercise clothes like sweatpants, a sweatshirt and sneakers.
    .
    1. Leave the house immediately and take a 20-minute walk.
    .
    1. As soon as you get back, woof down a nutritionally-dense protein drink made by mixing the contents of a packet of Myoplex, Met-RX or Lean Body with eight ounces of fat-free milk and a banana.
    1. Scarf down a packet of vitamins and minerals like Dr. Julian Whitaker's "FORWARD PLUS."
    .
    1. Take a shower.
    .
    1. Dress in fresh, crisp clothes and go about your day.
This pretty much covers it right ? I use this regimen daily so far no problems

    My wakeup routine:
1.Wake up (if you hit the snooze button you are not getting any work done that day!)
    2. Eat a light breakfast, have green tea, and 8oz. glass of room temp water (you absorb it better at that temp)
    3. Walk my dog while listening to some sort of self-development audio
    4. Go for a 20 minute run
    5. Stretch

    Get to work!
If you do this see how productive you feel after.

Day 3: Was a failure.. I woke up at 7:30 and then I had to rush to work. And I slept late the previous day. Whole day I felt like crap (because of the lack of sleep and not going through the ritual). Lessons learned: It is critical to sleep on time.

Day 4: Success. Back on track! Looking forward for a great day!

    Eben talks about:

Most precious human state is : Awareness. When one is watchful and aware of something. For example, when I was aware that getting up early is good.

Most precious energy is : Will power. One gets limited amount of it but it has huge leverage.

Most precious action is : Intentional repetition ( HABIT forming).

When one is aware of something he should focus will power energy to form habits. One habits are formed one doesn't need that much awareness or will power to maintain it. Then one can use that energy/awareness to form the success habit. Think about it: if one can form one high leverage success habits per month. How much difference it will make in 1 year with 12 success habits?

One more quote from WakeupProductice : "If you don't have it in your habit you don't have it".

    Day 5 : Was a success.

Day 6(Today: Sunday): Big failure. Woke up at 8:30 AM. Reason? Same mistake: Yesterday night slept late at 2:00 AM. How can I expect to wake up early and stay fresh if I sleep late? So the first habit to change is to sleep on time. I need night before-bed success ritual to make morning ritual successful... Which could be:

    No internet after 9:30 PM.
Story time and book reading with my son.
After my son has gone to sleep...
Plan next day. Review and visualize my top goals. Visualize waking up early and productive day.
Relax and go the sleep latest by 11:00 PM.

This is a common sense, but Eben also talks about how important is to get enough sleep to be more productive.

Awesome thread! Really enjoy the dedication you are putting into your goal. Doing what you are currently doing has been a goal of mine for a long time. The same problem you are having of not going to sleep early is the hurdle I must get over as well.

Through the many years of doing Internet marketing I have become a night owl and now must condition myself to go to sleep at a reasonable time to wake up early with power. The different in waking up early and getting stuff down is huge and definitely worth the time it will take to form the habit.

30 days sure sounds like it will do it, my initial goal is to be able to do it for 7 days straight in a way like the 7 day mental diet. Going to focus on waking up early with power and focus, meditate and focus.

Another interesting concept I recently read was being able to plan your day the night before. At least jotting down some of the important tasks to get done for the next day. This increases your focus and helps you get things done.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread as you continue your goal. Since I am starting tomorrow that means next Sunday will complete my initial 7 days I will post the results. Then looking forward to 5/23/12 which will mark my 30 days!

Using your exercise as NET time (No Extra Time) for anchoring yourself by organizing and preparing for the day can be a wonderful habit.

I got this from Tony Robbins. 2-3 times a week, I set aside 30 minutes in the morning where I basically condition myself for total success while exercising.

Perhaps Eban Pagan actually does what he prescribes,
and does benefit. Certainly other people can also benefit
for a regimented program like that. But people will respond
in different ways, so a variety of approaches to a fast-start
in the am should be investigated. Then select the one
that works best for that individual.

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback Warriors!

    Last three days :

Day 8,9: FAILURE. Reason same: slept late the night before, and lost my focus for this habit. After failing for 2 days, I was almost going to quit it, but then yesterday evening I got my motivation back. Thanks to the warriors' motivation on this thread. Man, habit change is really tough. But there is no easy way. :-)

Day 10: Success. It was pretty easy to wake up early today. Chain is broken. This way I won't be able to form a habit. I need to make it a MUST for every day. FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS and never give up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway , my morning exercise routine is (I will tweak it as I go):

Monday: Walking + running for 20 minutes (Will increase it to 30 minutes mostly running as I build stamina) . Crunches.
    Tuesday: Pushups + Dumbbell exercises.
    Wednesday: Walking+running
    Thursday: Pushups+Dumbbell.
    rinse and repeat.

I do the above exercise while listening to motivational/personal development audio books on the ipod.

Right now it is not important how well and how much I exercise, more important thing is to DO some exercise(even 5-10-15 minutes will be success) , however small, and make it a firm HABIT!!!! Once it a habit it will be much easier to build and improve upon it.

    Thanks!

Yes once the chain is broken it would be tough to get into it. but do not give up. sleep early in the night and get up early in the morning. keep some company for walk like a dog which is a good alarm. he/she will wake you up at 5.30 with their kiss and hug for a walk. once you get the habit, automatically you will get up without alarm.

Honestly I've been wanting to do these, but the hardest part for me is getting started. I always tell my self that I will start tomorrow, or when I wake up. But then tomorrow comes, and then I tell myself the same thing again.
Or when I do get started, its staying that's the problem. Somehow, there's always an excuse (like I slept late, or I dont feel well, etc). I know that that's a very bad habit.. But breaking out of this rut is HARD..

Good plan.... but a word of advice....

exercise to your favorite music before having breakfast... and before you turn the computer on. And replace the green powder in your smoothie with real greens... check out: Green Smoothie Challenge

Checking emails before your daily wake up ritual will only distract you from your goal and pull you out of the present moment. You need to become present before letting the computer pull your consciousness into thinking about the past or future.

Trust me.... on this... read the book "Super Consciousness" by Colin Wilson and get the audio book version of Sparking Life :: Optimize your brain function with exercise! to listen to along with music during your first 30 days.

You will feel more alive and focused than ever by staying away from the computer until after you take care of yourself first.

    Cheers,
    Steve

well planned yes, but as we all know, bad habit were flow in our blood vein. It's terribly hard and difficult to change our habit.

I hope you gain success on your program

Great! Keep going. But even after a month you should stick to it. Once you start getting up early that will become a habit and automatically you can do it.

Yes Uberman - how is your habit forming going. Would love to hear.

If the 'leaping out of bed' time is 5.45am I sincerely hope that you are getting 7 hours of good sleep before that time.
Otherwise any benefits of your newly formed habit may be degraded by the effects of sleep deprivation.

This is a great plan if you can follow through. I drink lots of water, even in the middle of night when I wake up. But I sleep late and wake up late. I might give this a try.

About habit formation part, it depends on you and your mindset. Some can establish
habit pattern faster for some it can take months. But for something good you can keep on doing it until it becomes a part of daily routine.

    Hey,

Thanks for the reminder...great thread. For some reason I have been always most productive at the evening time. I get my best ideas then and do most of the actual work around midnight.
Gonna try and see if I can tweak my schelude a bit and become more productive doring daytime.

This is a good start for many who DON'T already have a ritual in the morning.

Personally, my ritual is similar to this except I wake up slightly later. I also spend more than 30 minutes on exercise daily, I usually go for a workout for roughly an hour long.

The other important factor is having a good breakfast. Educate yourself on what type of foods are most effective for giving you the energy needed for the day(cereal btw is NOT good, except for some).

Basically you have to plan your own rituals that suit you, this will come over time as you start to see what kind of rituals give you the best results.

Uberman, how are things going? Well you could do the immersion thing where you just plunge yourself into new habits or you could try the enjoy 1 new habit thing...

      Eg
      1) Practice drinking more water until you really enjoy it... after you feel the enjoyment and it's become automatic... move on to 2
      2) Wake up earlier and routinely... do so until you enjoy it ...

Of course one doesn't have to do it sequentially. The idea though is to hold yourself accountable to just one habit at a time... ie get the standards and quality up.

One does leap out of bed literally if you're excited doing whatever it is you do for a job.. which is why it's so important to enjoy what you're doing!

You are trying to build way too many habits at once.

I've been through Wake Up Productive. It's a great program.

But you missed one of the most important things he says: Only build one habit at a time!

You just listed like 5 different habits you are trying to build all at once.

And this is a KEY aspect to creating a new lifestyle and building new habits in to your day. 'Baby steps' as they sometimes say. Do 1 thing at a time for 10 days or so before beginning a new one.

I get gung ho and try to do everything at once and then I always fail and then the self esteem goes in the dumpster.
