How Do You Start Your Day?

This morning I got up, took a shower, whistled my way into the kitchen to start up some coffee and make our traditional morning smoothie (for the entire family). I saw my husband off to work, and then got on my laptop, put my head down, and had one of the most productive mornings ever. When my kids woke up, I was ready for them, and have had the best day totally focused on my kids - as it should be.

Let me just admit that it is often rare that I shower in the morning (I'm hoping stay@home parents to young children can relate...lol). I'm not typically in the best of moods either, and often feel as though I could sleep for another 5 hours. Usually I fiddle around the house, and then the kids are up and about. Before I even realize it, the day has escaped me, and I feel as though I've accomplished very little because I've had to play "catch up" all day.

My husband later sent me an email telling me that he loved how positive I started my day. It then hit me that I've been such a downer in recent days, and much of it is because of how I start my day. How you start your day often sets the tone of how the rest of your day will go.

So... what's changed?

Well, most recently I've committed myself to really truly acknowledging everything that I am grateful for in life.

I've also committed myself to going to bed a little earlier so I can get more hours of sleep. I've committed myself to waking up earlier so that I can get a shower in first thing - which wakes me up, starts my engine, AND helps me get into the right frame of mind for a productive morning.

Plain and simple: I have committed myself to starting my day on a more positive note.

My kids are happier, because I'm much more engaged, thus making me happier.

Something as simple as changing the way you start your day can do wonders for your success - both personal and business.

How do YOU start your day to ensure a more positive outcome by the time you lay down to sleep?

    Good stuff.

I usually wake up cranky, but my dogs always make me laugh, so that helps. I eventually hop on the treadmill (with a desk) and check emails, stats, etc. -- then start reading through a book or something, since I find that I learn more while on a treadmill (focus is great).

After I get off the treadmill I'm almost always in a much better mood and ready to get my day started.

You know how beautiful it sounds!! I am not an early riser and not a well disciplined one. But I should follow some certain rules and make a plan to get some positive outcome from a day. I don't know, why I am not doing so.

I try to start my day with a shower, too. As a parent of two younger boys, this is not always feasible.

When I do get to shower, I spend half my time bathing and the other half creating a mental list of things I am thankful for. I focus on getting into a deep feeling of gratitude for each item. Some days it's harder than others to convince myself to start the list, depending on my initial mood when I wake up. But once I do, I always feel like a million bucks by the time I'm finished itemizing my blessings!

Then I hop in my car and head to the 9-5. During the commute, I briefly revisit my gratitude list and then transition to envisioning what the life of my dreams looks like. I get into the space of how that life feels.

In my vision, I have a specific house that I live in, have a few vehicles to get me from point A to B, am healthy, wake up to happy faces all around me (wife and kids), then I go to "work" < checking the overnight earnings from my passive income generating sites, which is my full time gig!

Some days the wife and I venture out of our awesome new house and take a trip down town to museum hop. Other days we let the kids play hookie from school and do something cool as a family. I have endless options, because internet marketing has given me financial freedom and has allowed me to reclaim the time I was losing at my 9-5 gig.

I spend 10-20 minutes really getting lost in my vision. It feels real! A huge smile always comes across my face and loiters for the duration of this exercise. Meanwhile, another part of me is on auto-pilot, ensuring I safely arrive to work. This practice always gets me very excited, and solidifies the tone for the day.

Awesome! It is amazing how visualization can help change the way the world looks. And hopefully your vision will become your reality - that is the goal, right? :-)

It's funny how something as simple as a shower is something I took for granted before kids. In fact, the ability to shower is often something I find myself giving gratitude towards. LOL.

I get up when my youngest decides to jump on me. I find it's quite a rough and painful way to wake up...

But I wouldn't change it for the world.

Then it's breakfast, have a quick wash (I prefer to shower in the evenings), see the children off to school and finally sit down to start work.

I suppose it's quite basic, but it works for me. All of us are generally happy with this routine.

I'm usually like a zombie in the morning until I get a coffee.

If i'm feeling particularly motivated I will take my coffee straight to my office and start checking my e-mail. If not I usually sit and drink my coffee and watch CNN or MSNBC for a few.

Hello! I always start my day by shouting. Shouting thankful words for another glorious day I've come to see. Then I'm off to get coffee and shower. Man, I'm still young and I don't have a family yet, so I'll hit the stove for breakfast and started my day with a simple routine. It works for me cause without coffee I get cranky. More power!

Walk into the Kitchen and set the timer on the Coffee pot for 30 minutes and go out for a run. After I get back I hop in the shower, sit down, turn on cnn, msnbc, and fox news. Read the morning paper and drink my coffee before I ever even turn the computer on. All in all about 2hours worth of stuff to do before I'm ever plugged in. I do this because if I don't I'll never be disconnected from the net.

I get up at 5AM then workout until about 6AM then take a COLD SHOWER (this really wakes you up) then make my bed then cook breakfast. :-)

Go to be a little early to wake up early and you would be surprised at exactly how much time you have left before you do any real work.

I manage to complete everything listed above before 8 AM

I love this! I actually was reading on a blog about how to live purposely and create happier time. They talked about waking up before the kids wake up (not waking up when you hear them crying or calling for you) and I intend to try it.

I usually wake up in a good mood, just less productive. I hope to wake up earlier than my kids and get moer done, be productive, be more in tune with them and create my business.

    This is a great thread!

I start my day laying in bed praying, I then hop up for a morning shower- where I then sing prayers, after that I grab something to eat update my websites and start making phone calls to see who I can help with their business; during this time I am watching the markets investing so I can keep on top of Investor Savant and my own personal portfolio where I can continue to help people (if I ran out of funds that would force me to get a real job >_<) and after the markets close my day is done and I will often go and work on more websites.

As I lay in bed I think breifly about how well my day will go. When I step on the floor I make a point of feeling thankful for the fact that I can get up out of bed, I drink some water and go off to exercise. This is either a run, bike ride or visit to the gym. Breakfast after that. I try to mediatate later in the day but that gets missed too often.
