Your most influential BOOK TITLE!! and what you learned

There is a series of Books by the late Richard Carlson called Don't Sweat The Small Stuff... The first one ends in ...And It's All Small Stuff. He has written quite a few in different areas. They are the simplest books to read and yet offer the most profound advice in each book. His wife, Kris, continues his good work thank goodness.

The most influential book that I can think of for myself is called " Your money or your life" by Joe Domingues and Vicki Robin. this book taught me a huge amount of information on frugality and its value. I've changed my life and my spending habits in huge ways because of the effects of this book. I can honestly say that my life would be drastically different if I hasn't read it.

The basic subject that the book goes over is that you're money is actually your life force, when you take into consideration then you are literally making a trade of your time( a finite resource) for money ( a fairly infinite resource) so pretty much what you're saying is that your life is worth X. Where X is your hourly wage minus miscellaneous expenses. The funny thing about this line of thinking is that most of the expenses that came out of my paycheck were actually related to the job itself. Buying lunches, costuming ( think uniforms and special clothing just for work) and gasoline cost. At the end of the day, my previous career only netted me about $4.25 an hour after taxes and expenses. I wasn't happy to say the least. That's why I'm earning most of my money online. Not all of it is directly proportional to the amount of time I put in.

At the end of the day it's your job to make the most money you can for the least amount of time. You only have a limited number of time left in this world, and it should not be solely fixated on earning more and more money. There's a lot a life that is still left in all of us, and it's our job to find it.

At the risk of sounding cliche, the most influential book I've read is the Bible.

It covers every topic imaginable.

Self improvement, you've got it. Managing money, you've got it. Politics, you've got it. Inspiration, you've got it. How to's, you've got it. Commerce, you've got it. Marriage, you've got it. Child rearing, you've got it. Relationships, you've got it. Mindsets, you've got it. Wisdom, you've got it.

I could go on and on, but you get my drift.

The Sermon On The Mount by Emmet Fox. It's a modern (1930s) interpretation of some of the stuff from the book of Matthew. The Bible is hard for me to read because of all the thee and thou language along with words that have different meanings today than they did back when they were written. This book makes it all crystal clear and is actually the recipe for a happy life.

I recently read and its a short read the Richest Man in Babylon . It was a pretty good book The Alchemist was another similar story line that was a longer read but OK. I have read most of, well a hand full of the classics.

We need only imagine or dream of what we want and if we focus on it, our subconscious mind will go to work helping to guide us towards success and achievement in that area.

When I read the subject line for this post I thought you wanted to know the best title we had ever seen. In which case I was going to choose "Think and grow rich." which is I think a brilliant title.

It also though is in my opinion one of the best personal development books. I also like

when it comes to the bible .. i find you have to go and find the sources that break down orgininal translations .. because what was written almost 2 thousand years ago .. has been translated so mant times the meaning has been lost ..and most people ignore the important quotes and set on the popular quotes ..

i believe originally instead of it saying love thy neighbor as thyself .. in greek it was first love thyself..then love thy neighbor as thyself .

also jesus taught a lot on being wealthy .. he shunned hoarding wealth .. his teaching focus on flow of wealth and getting into a state where you always believe you will have what you need ..

jesus was the master of love.. and he was trying his darndest to teach people about the power they had ..

Think and Grow Rich is a classic. The Millionaire Mind is another great book.

Law of Success by Napoleon Hill. I learned that without a definite purpose you are aimlessly floating with no destination in life. I have learned too much to share here. The book is worth more then a Harvard education.

George Leonard's Mastery was an excellent book for learning how we learn. You can learn any skill if you put your mind to it and learn how skills are acquired. The biggest thing I learned from Mastery is that plateaus are natural and to be expected.

The Secret, Think and Grow Rich and Millionaires Mind. Helped me to realise I am in charge of my life and how I live it.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I found it truly inspirational and still remember this part:

A boy named Santiago encounters a lone alchemist who tells him about personal legends. He says that people only want to find the treasure of their personal legends but not the personal legend itself. He feels unsure about himself as he listens to the alchemist's teachings. The alchemist states "Those who don't understand their personal legends will fail to comprehend its teachings." It also states that treasure is more worthy than gold.

The Einstein Factor by Win Wenger.

I have learned (in a nutshell) that most people are born geniuses but their genius atrophies after they are put into the school system. There are many tips on how to boost your creativity which I feel would be helpful as an Internet marketer or any other aspect of life.

The most influential book for me is "The Secret". It made me become more optimistic in life. Being positive makes my life more meaningful and happier.

For anyone who doesnt read much. I know because I use to never read I started out with Audible the audio books from amazon. I would get two new books a month with my membership and maybe buy a few but I would listen to them every night before bed. most all of the classics I have on audio book.

So try that at the very least to get going on learning more stuff and getting more knowledge. You will find some gold mines in some of these books and repeated principles throughout history so once you get to studying you will find commonalities to live by which most successful people know and practice.

Summary: Geared towards the business minded individual who also wants to add scientific rigor to their understanding of running a successful business. This book deconstructs the fundamental flaw of connecting the dots of only successful companies, and how there is absolutely no blueprint to success. From the 1000 companies that failed, there are maybe 20 that are considered successful within a 5 year period, and afterwards, many of them will still fail. Technology and increased competition being one of the major contributors to rapid rise and fall of businesses.

Review: This is not a light read, nor should it be. Taken outside the business context, you can see that simply analyzing successful people will not guarantee a 'success' blueprint. What worked for that individual/business at that time, will not necessarily work now.

Rating: 5/5 Highly recommended towards financial analysts, business owners, and business academics.

I would suggest some books of John C. Maxwell - They're all good for business men. I remember the quote "Your life changes when you change". It totally wakes me up from negative thinking and guide me how to think like people who successful in life.

"The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell is one of the best books I've ever read. It's an interesting discussion on famous psychological and social theories like the broken window theory. Everyone on the Government seat should be given a copy of the book for required reading. It's also obvious that the cover design of the book was well-thought, adding more interesting factors that normal readers usually look for in a book.

The Law And The Promise by Neville Goddard
Learned that God is within and how to tap into this power.

The most influential book title for me is The Holly Bible. I read it last week for the first time and I can only say that my life has changed completely. I recommend it to all of you. Read the Bible because this is the most important book in our lives!

Some great works of fiction have been inspirational enough for me:

The Imajica & Sacrament by Clive Barker - both deal with feelings of love, pain, God, sex, death and the majesty that life on Earth is surrounded by forces we have little understanding of.

As Clive Barker put it himself:

"I am a man, and men are animals who tell stories. This is a gift from God, who spoke our species into being, but left the end of our story untold. That mystery is troubling to us. How could it be otherwise? Without the final part, we think, how are we to make sense of all that went before; which is to say, our lives?

So read everything, have no preferences. But don't forget your Goal.

I agree with Terra, the Bible is the most influential book I know & I highly recommend it...it covers everrrrything in life & about life. To quote "it" there is nothing new under the sun.

I am starting to really like cook books.. and I have a little prayer book I always keep with me from when I got my first communion yrs ago!

It isn't any of these. It was IOCS geo arbitrage book that got everything all started for me outside of Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

The IOCS was found in Warroom. This caused me to start my fulltime career so suddenly. and the other room in warriorforum was the success and self improvement threads in that particular forum

Geo Arbitrage is what I do now.

for me The Secret influenced me a lot. i learned many things like being positive and the this one.. "what you think is what you can hold"

2nd is "manual of warrior of light"

I am now more in to audio books now a days

1. Don't Worry, Make Money - Richard Carlson, Ph.D.
Published in 1997, i was a gift from my mother. The simple trick of non-worrying and it works wonders for me.

2. Rich dad, Poor dad - Robert Kiyosaki
you probably read this one Mostly Business ideas and the right mind set if you want to get rich.

Nice thread! I was just looking to collect more books myself to begin to read. I am currently half way done with "The Science Of Getting Rich" By Wallace D. Wattles

So far this book is truly a gem, an old book but a great one. Mr. Wattles had an excellent perspective on the topic of getting rich and how it is truly a science, not just luck. Definitely worth checking out guys!

Have to agree with The Bible. If I could also put in a shameless plug, I just wrote this post about Bible Verses and Business.

Two other books, not yet mentioned are:

The E-Myth Revisited, by Michael Gerber. This changed my mindset about building and running business. Had I read this book earlier, it would have had a total shift in my previous company, one that grew fast and fell hard.

Man's Search For Meaning, by Viktor Frankl. I don't know how to put in words how this book impacted me. It is an autobiography of concentration camp hell, a self-help book, a psychology book, and more. This is a book I re-read often.

2 books that are not self help books but that were inspirational:

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

And...

A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

I've already replied with my most influential book title but I have to add another one.

It's Maxwell Maltz - Psycho-Cybernetics. I see it's come up a couple of times in the thread. I've learned a great deal from this book about how the brain works, about the power of self-image, and about how to take control of your thoughts and direct them towards positive things.

Great read, I highly recommend it!

The Richest Man In Babylon changed my entire perspective on managing and handling money, after I read that book my reserves and purchasing power have gone way up.

I seldom read until I have read The Secret, it has changed my mindset, and now I like to read (although I'm 32 now, but it is always not too late).
