Does EFT Really Work? Anyone Tried it Yet

There seems to be a quiet explosion in the self Improvement world with Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. You see all kinds of YouTube videos explaining it's benefits, how to do to it to achieve everything from making more money, losing weight to how to be a better lover. Does it really work? Anyone ever heard of it or tried it?

Here's a video that explains it if you haven't.

When you say does it work, it depends.

Does getting a back rub "work"? If you ask asking if getting a back rub makes you feel better, then yes. However, if you're asking if getting a back rub will make you richer, probably not.

Same with EFT. Does it make you feel better? Yes. As such, it can be useful for pain (like if you have a headache). But for anything beyond that, it can't do much for you.

Even medical experts think the mind plays a powerful
role in healing, so I have no doubt there is some reality
in some of this stuff. Drug companies and doctors know
placebos work, and sometimes better than a "real" drug.

      There's a lot we don't know.

The technique works. Often I am amazed how well it works. Nothing can be so instantaneously change your mindset than this technique. And all that you have to do is to call out your feelings whatever they are and tap. I absolutely love it. I just wish that I remember to do it when those feelings arose. Somehow we are hell bent on feeling bad and don't want to change them.

      Hi!

I joined the forum JUST to answer this post.

First off, that video has taken the words of Gary Craig, the originator of EFT and marketed them - it has wrapped some sensational results from EFT around the information, to make you sit up and take notice, and so I fully expect it to polarise opinion.

Earlier this year Senator Chuck Schumer (Rochester NY?) publicly stated that the VA should look at EFT for helping veterans with PTSD. "Mental Health Counselors and veterans groups say EFT works but it's not approved by the VA" says the article. I love that quote, it means more to me than any from Dawson Church or Deepak Chopra because a Senator is a man with plenty to lose and no vested interest in the promotion of any one therapeutic process.

All I can say is that I would never, ever, have trained in EFT if I wasn't perfectly certain that it has a measurable physical effect and works independent of any faith or expectation whatsoever.

It works in at least 80% of cases and it CAN work as well as the video shows.

I'm in the UK but happy to give free half hour initial consultations by skype, if anyone is tempted but unsure, provided we can arrange to be awake and at our laptops simultaneously....

In the meantime I recommend Gary Craig's new website Garythinks(dot)com, for the background to this therapy and free access to the basic training materials for Official EFT (variations are encouraged, but this is the benchmark original version), or if you are less about removing phobias or traumas and more about removing blocks to success (perhaps you feel the biggest obstacle to reaching wealth is your own fears or reticence) then you might enjoy Jack Canfield's newest book which is also all about tapping (EFT).

As You can see from the replies, like all other selp improvement techniques, it works for some and not for others. Why?

              Because people are unique.

It works for me. It may or may not work for you. But you have nothing to loose by trying it. It is free and easy to learn.

I recommend to all my students along with IST, meditation. Some say IST is the helped them, others say EFT helped them, yet others say it is the meditation that helped them. I agree 100% with all of them.

I noticed people mentioned that it didn't work, but maybe it depends on what issue you were working on, how long you did it and what results you were expecting.

It's basically a hypnotic mp3 file you listen to and tap along with and it's suppose to scramble your negative thoughts. The mp3 files are free to download here.

If nothing else it's good for meditation purposes and trying hard toward living in the Now.

Back to topic, I've tried EFT, and FasterEFT for that matter, many times and never experienced any results from it. My whole philosophy has changed concerning EFT. I don't think it's needed to delve into past memories and think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie. Meditation and visualization have been around for thousands of years and are more effective than EFT, in my opinion.

I took a two week EFT training class at a community college a couple years ago.

It worked for me on a couple of issues I was dealing with. It actually allowed me to immediately let go of those issues for good!

I haven't used in a while, but recently I started reviewing the course again & I plan on using it to help with a big goal I'm working on.

Yes, I've used it with great success, though I no longer use it as I prefer other techniques to clear issues.

I personally don't believe in the theory behind it (that you're working with chi), but it does work, and in my opinion for a different reason:

As some of you know, I come from an NLP background, and so I see it from this perspective: It collapses anchors (i.e. stimulus-response). So if you have a fear of something, and you use EFT, you are removing the fear response. So every emotional issue we have is just an anchor, and so by using EFT, the negative anchors are being weakened until they are gone.

BTW, I've used EFT to clear addictions and trauma by addressing the deeper issues that ultimately drive the addictions and trauma so it can work for deep stuff when applied properly.

But it's not so much EFT that brings the change, it's got more to do with the person's willingness to let go and the intention to let go.

The thing with EFT is that you need to "connect with" the problem or issue. If you have accepted the depression as "the way you are" you need go deeper and resolve other things first. You need to attack the REAL Reason that you are depressed. You may not know the real reason though and a practician can help you zero in gradually on what is the REAL problem. That also goes for addiction. You need to attack the problem in a way that resonates with YOU. You have to open up to the possibility that your life will be better without the addiction. You need to sort of trick you subconscious into considering the possibility. That is why a practician or a master at this can help you attack things from the right angle.

I have been able to resolve bad feelings associated with losing in bowling and other games, and also quit smoking with the help of EFT.

It works. And when it doesn't the problem is not EFT, it is the way you attack the issue that is the real problem.

You are SO right! I started using it, ended up using a tweak version of it. It's awesome for getting rid of the 'man I'm so frustrated right now about this thing that just happened aaaargh!' and not so great for 'I have an issue I've had since I was six and it just will not go away no matter what'.

Even though this is an old thread, since it is bumped I will reply.

I used EFT in the past and it worked for me. I used to have very bad symptoms of lactose intolerance. Then I started using EFT for the symptoms. Fast forward 3-4 months of daily usage of EFT and my symptoms have reduced by about 95%.

Today, almost 7 years later, I still have this large reduction in symptoms. I occasionally have the symptoms after consuming dairy products but it happens much less often than it used to, and to much less degree (less stomach pain).

So for me... yes, EFT worked.

I have also used it for less important things like to reduce swelling on a bruise, and it usually works well for that.

this guy has been around for at least 20 years. anthony robbins kind of debunks him (not by name) in some of his audios. he says he appeared with him on some tv show and the guy took someone from the audience with a phobia and went "wham wham wham" for 30 minutes and it didn't help the person. i have very little knowledge of this technique, but my unqualified opinion is this is the placebo effect in action. basically, it works if you believe it works.

Eh, a single failure in a live performance is hardly 'debunking' something. Also, the official website has hundreds if not thousands of success stories that people have written.

PSTEC is far more effective than EFT... Google it. You can learn how to use it for free while most EFT Quacks will try to charge you for non-results. But EFT can be beneficial to those who are easily hypnotize.

I'm a quacker and find that thought ridiculously entertaining, thank you

I don't sell EFT training or services, however I am a Certified Energy Psychology practitioner and find the entire topic of energy, how we use it, share it, use it to our benefit, etc... to be absolutely fascinating.

EFT is a great tool for working with your own energy - it works for some and not for others. You should never pay for it though, learn it yourself and give it a try. Just search for free EFT training - it's quick and easy to learn.

If it does have hypnotic benefits, all the better, especially for those who have problems with self-hypnosis or hypnotherapy as that will create a pathway to get into your subconscious. Ultimately, that is where your best results for making any changes, breaking through barriers, etc... come from.

I know this is an older topic but it's worth bringing it
'back to light' if it means giving people the chance to
see what this is all about for themselves.

    As for my personal experience...

...yesterday I used the technique on two separate
    issues in my life:

    Relationships and Money.

I had to dig deep in places I didn't want to go to
heal old wounds and start fresh.

    As I'm typing...

...I can't *remember* exactly what my issues were
nor can I pinpoint where the pain came from.

I *do* remember knowing prior to treatment what
my issues were and the emotional pain behind it...
but I can not remember, nor do I have any desire to
attempt to recollect what it was.

It's as if after treatment you have amnesia about
the problem you were looking to alleviate from your
life -- while being healed from it at the same time.

This is not to be mistaken with 'pushing your issues
    aside to deal with later'.

It's precisely BECAUSE we push our baggage aside
it piles up and overtake us.

This approach forces you to face your own demons,
while giving you power within your SOUL to remove
    it yourself.

You're expunging negative emotions BEHIND memories
    /current issues your facing.

When the negative emotion is gone...

...what reason do you have to remember it?

And if you CAN recall the issue, you'll wonder why it
was an issue in the first place...

...and even THAT will be a passing thought as you
    go about your day.

    As was said...

...this works regardless if you believe it or not.

It has NOTHING to do with the placebo effect.

There are enough case studies to show the most
skeptic people implement this technique and within
    MINUTES become a practitioner themselves.'

It's only been one DAY and I'm confidently approaching
women again with no trepidation about my past
relationships and I'm putting together my business
to earn $3,000+ monthly with no second thoughts
    or hesitation.

I highly encourage EVERYONE to do it at least once.

It'll be the best 5 minutes of your life.

I had a friend who taught me EFT back in 2000, way before it went mainstream. Some of the reactions I got when I told others about it were priceless.

I didn't know it at the time but EFT works by eliminating emotional blockages that restrict our flow of energy or qi (chi).

And yes, it works really well!

Incredibly well Niche Man. If you're open to it

I USED TO be closed to EFT. Closed my heart. Didn't want it to work. Then I tapped in earnest a few months back. Arose plenty of wicked energies. Got really angry. Cried a lot. Felt like crap for a few weeks, LOL! Then I felt much, much better and approached my blog, business and life with a different energy. A loving energy. A fun energy. 180 for me, when I got open with EFT, to allow the energies to flow, so I felt them, embraced them, experienced them and released them.

Unpleasant for a bit but well worth it!
