Inspirational quotes from Gordon Gekko

  • You see that building? I bought that building ten years ago. My first real estate deal. Sold it two years later, made an $800,000 profit. It was better than sex. At the time I thought that was all the money in the world. Now it's a day's pay. It's all about bucks, kid. The rest is conversation.

  • It's not a question of enough, pal. It's a zero sum game, somebody wins, somebody loses. Money itself isn't lost or made, it's simply transferred from one perception to another.

  • What's worth doing is worth doing for money.

  • The most valuable commodity I know of is information.

  • I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing.

  • Lunch is for wimps.

  • Greed is good.

  • This is the kid, calls me 59 days in a row, wants to be a player. There ought to be a picture of you in the dictionary under persistence kid.

  • I don't throw darts at a board. I bet on sure things. Read Sun-tzu, The Art of War. Every battle is won before it is ever fought.

  • The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's wealth, five trillion dollars. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, stock and real estate speculation. It's bull****. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own. We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price per paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of the hat while everybody sits out there wondering how the hell we did it. Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy? It's the free market. And you're a part of it. You've got that killer instinct. Stick around pal, I've still got a lot to teach you.

I assume some will enjoy the quotes and some will hate them..

hey if you want to follow the path of those who happily ruin the lives and the livley hood of hundreds or thousands of people at a time to make an extra few million dollars they don't need ..

gorden gekko would have probably went out of business like so many other greedy people did ..in the late 80's ..instead in the film he just ended up in jail .

ok there was a bit of vitriol there .. but take a look at the world we are in a world that has been run and dominated by many gordon gekkos .. and if your fine making you money in a way that probably wipes out the lifes work of many peopl and takes a good chunk from anyone they can .. than fine ..

greed is great but you need to embrace the new greed .. and that is how to make money in a way that helps many others make money ..google,facebook,youtube,twitter, list the people getting rich today.. and they are people creating systems others can use to make money .

I just saw the New Wall Street movie. It sucked compared to the first, but I still love Gordon.

Actually, I like some of those quotes. My family is a family of entrepreneurs so I've been hearing their conversations since I was a little kid and I have learned to like money talk but also to distinguish between what is good and what is bad. Bad will probably get you out of business sooner than you expect.

    This, I like:

It's worth helping others. It's worth helping others to make money. It's worth helping them to make money in exchange of money. Somebody wins, somebody wins.

Learn what applies to your life... don't ponder too much about the part he goes to jail. There's a lot you can learn about leadership, the mental toughness and the mindset you need to make serious money in life. If you think these wall street guys get rich by stealing from poor, you're highly mistaken.

Everyone cannot connect with Gordon's approach towards business (even me in some cases) - but the more I encounter successful people in business, the more I see how ruthless they are where business is concerned.. not just the money part.. but the drive to be on top. (Jobs, gates, trump anyone you can think of literally..)

Moreover I believe in having financial power allows you the freedom to make significant changes in the world.. instead of just being the placard carrier.

well i am not as anti capatalist as i came off in the post ..as i feel the people near the bottom whoo take more than they produce and expect more and more .. and wish more to be taken from others to be given to them..have a kind of greed that is far worse than the extreme version gekko was cast to portray.. and the makers of wallstreet have been rather dismayed that the villian type character became a role model.. that has help lead to the current situation the world is in ..

gate..jobs..and trump.. may be greedy ..but they built something and made the world better in their own way ..and they have made a lot of other people rich in the process ..hell i think trump is a huge factor in the come back of new york city ..with all the development he helped spur ..but as competitive as they seem .. the cooperate with far more people than they compete against ..

a golfer realy competes against him or her self .. sports teams are to groups of highly competitive people who cooperate with those on there team to the highest degree in order to win .. teams don't last long if members don't cooperate ..

and don't forget the new american way of doing buisiness .. if you can't beat the buy them.. and if you can't buy them.. buy government officials to regulate them out of business ..

I loved Wall Street and Wall Street 2.

Gordon Gekko is an amazing character, Michael Douglas played him extremely well.

Currently there are over 2.5 billion people below poverty in the world, we must do something to uplift that section of the society with the basic healthcare and education for them to live a decent life.

But we cannot pull out someone from a well unless you're out of the well yourself - you need to be rich to make government or the public to take notice.

Our anger and sympathies alone cannot improve their lives - we need large investments and government co-operation worldwide to make any dent in that section of the society.

There are a thousand gekko's around the world ruthless, competitive beyond comprehension and money grubber by birth - but what he ultimately does with his wealth and power is what defines the man.
